3D Conceptual Modelling and Direct Utilization Calculations of The Albanian Geothermal Resources  [PDF]
Nevton Kodhelaj, Aida Bode
Engineering (ENG) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2013.51B037
Abstract: Balneological use of the Albanian Geothermal springs and waters dates back centuries, but the first modern use started in 1937. Unfortunately they had not been used for its energetic values yet. The temperature of the water is above 60 °C and the flow above 16 l/s, thus direct utilization is possible, in particular for space heating. Three-dimensional temperature field calculations and engineering calculations on a heating system with heat exchangers are presented here. The results show that the water temperature is expected to be stable and considerably higher temperature is expected through deep well drilling. The University’s Campus of Tirana is composed of 29 buildings, which are partially heated through a coal heater. The installed capacity is 2558kW while the coal consumption is about 920 kg/h. The University’s Campus of Tirana is one of the most important areas and with the highest density of population in Tirana, so it is the best area to show the heat exchanger efficiency. The economic analyses prove that the borehole heat exchangers are more convenient than the coal heating systems.
Tidal disruption of white dwarfs by intermediate mass black holes
Laguna P.,Haas R.,Shcherbakov R.V.,Bode T.
EPJ Web of Conferences , 2012, DOI: 10.1051/epjconf/20123907002
Abstract: Modeling ultra-close encounters between a white dwarf and a spinning, intermediate mass black hole requires a full general relativistic treatment of gravity. This paper summarizes results from such a study. Our results show that the disruption process and prompt accretion of the debris strongly depend on the magnitude and orientation of the black hole spin. On the other hand, the late-time accretion onto the black hole follows the same decay, ∝ t 5/3, estimated from Newtonian gravity disruption studies. The spectrum of the fallback material peaks in the soft X-rays and sustains Eddington luminosity for 1–3 yrs after the disruption. The orientation of the black hole spin has also a profound effect on how the outflowing debris obscures the central region. The disruption produces a burst of gravitational radiation with characteristic frequencies of ~3.2 Hz and strain amplitudes of ~10 18 for galactic intermediate mass black holes.
Computer in surgery
CO Bode
Nigerian Journal of Surgical Research , 2004,
Abstract: Like most truly epochal revolutions, the computer age crept in on this generation before we could figure out its numerous possible applications. Over the past few years, an increasing appreciation of the usefulness of digital technology has emerged among various professions. How has the advent of the computer impacted the field of surgery? Is it worth embracing for the older practitioners? What does the future portend for our ancient noble profession? This paper reviews current applications of computer technology in the field of surgery and the hopes it hold out to surgeons in developing countries.
Presentation and management outcome of childhood intussusception in Lagos: A prospective study
Bode C
African Journal of Paediatric Surgery , 2008,
Abstract: Background: Intussusception is the commonest cause of bowel obstruction in infancy and childhood. Early diagnosis and effective management have reduced its morbidity and mortality in developed countries. Aim: To document the presentation, management and treatment outcome of intussusceptions at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). Patients and Methods: One hundred seventy-four consecutive cases of this condition seen in children presenting at LUTH over a 5-year period were prospectively studied. Details of symptoms and signs, pre-hospital care, treatment, and outcome in LUTH were documented. Results: The triad of abdominal pain, bloody mucoid stools and palpable abdominal mass was seen in 106 (61%) of the cases. One hundred thirty-five (77.6%) had been admitted and treated with antibiotics and intravenous fluids in primary healthcare centers for an average of 3 days before referral to the LUTH. Prolonged mean duration of recognizable symptoms of 3 days accounted for a 70.4% bowel resection rate. Wound infection occurred in 61 (36.1%), whereas fecal fistulae developed in six (3.6%), and burst abdomen in five (3%) of cases. Seven (4.1%) patients developed incisional herniae. Overall, mortality rate was 12.1%. Conclusion: The early symptoms of intussusception would seem to be missed by primary healthcare workers in Lagos, with consequently high morbidity and mortality. There is an urgent need to re-emphasize these symptoms to first-line healthcare providers and parents through public enlightenment campaigns.
International Youth Library Uluslararas Gen lik Kütüphanesi

Türk Kütüphanecili?i , 1994,
Abstract: International Youth Library, the biggest youth library in the world, was founded in 1948 in Munich, Germany, by Jella Lepman. She aimed to unite all the children of the world through books by establishing this library. IYL is still trying to achieve this end supporting scholarship programmes in children's literature research, participating in or organizing meetings on children's literature, and working with other national and international organizations dealing with children's literature. Unfortunately the library is facing some problems recently which have risen from economic difficulties which also inhibits promotional activities. Günümüzde de dünyan n en büyük gen lik kütüphanesi olma zelli ini ta yan Uluslararas Gen lik Kütüphanesi (UGK), 1948 y l nda Jella Lepman taraf ndan Almanya 'n n Münih kentinde kuruldu. Publishing and Australian literature : crisis, decline or transformation?
Bode, Katherine
Cultural Studies Review , 2010,
Abstract: The globalisation and consolidation of book publishing is widely seen as having negative consequences for Australian literature. Some commentators argue that this shift is detrimental to Australian literature as a whole; others identify the growth of multinational publishing conglomerates with a specific decline in Australian literary fiction. This article explores both positions, first identifying and investigating trends in Australian novel publication and comparing these to trends in the publication of novels from other countries as well as other Australian-originated literature (specifically, poetry and auto/biography). It then considers the specific case of Australian literary fiction, before looking in detail at the output of large publishers of Australian novels. This analysis reveals a recent decline in Australian novel and poetry titles, but offers a more complex picture of this trend than dominant expressions of nostalgia and alarm about the fate of Australian literature and publishing would suggest.

"Within small compass": Hawthorne's Expansive Urban Garden in The House of the Seven Gables
Rita Bode
The Brock Review , 2008,
Abstract: Nathaniel Hawthorne loved a garden. His writings consistently show his awareness of their complexity. He sees gardens as sites of negotiation that demand a relevant and meaningful presence for both nature and culture. In The House of the Seven Gables, his urban garden of "small compass" effectively envisions and then makes workable a model of co-existence inclusive of all human and organic life on equal terms, and strives to realize a non-hierarchical social model of human community.
Two loop expansion of the Schroedinger functional coupling alpha_SF in SU(3) lattice gauge theory
Achim Bode
Physics , 1997, DOI: 10.1016/S0920-5632(97)00903-1
Abstract: The two loop coefficient of the expansion of the Schroedinger functional coupling in terms of the lattice coupling is calculated for the SU(3) Yang-Mills theory. This coefficient is required to relate lattice data to the MS-bar-coupling. As a byproduct of the calculation, the Schroedinger functional is improved to two loop order and the three loop coefficient of the beta function in the SF-scheme is derived.
