Abstract: This study compared different strategies to improve occupational health and evaluated their impact on some quality of life domains (health, physical activity, occupational environment, and perception of quality of life). This cluster randomized controlled clinical trial enrolled 172 men and women aged 26.10 ± 6.03 who worked in the administrative department of 4 companies. The interventions lasted three months. Employees in company A (EA) received workplace exercises (WE) and educational interventions (EI) (posters with healthcare and quality of life recommendations and computer messages); in Company B (EB), only WE; in company C (EC), only EI; and in company D (ED), employees formed a control group. A quality of life and health (QVS-80) questionnaire was used for all assessments. The Wilcoxon test was used to compare quality of life before and after interventions, and the Kruskal-Wallis test (p ≤ 0.05), for each quality of life domain. The scores for occupational environment increased in companies A and B (p <0.01), which suggests that WE may improve the occupational environment.

Abstract: The goal of this project is synthesize and characterization of derivatives of lupeol and evaluated antimalarial activity. Historically, plants are important source of antimalarial medicines, highlighting quinine (1) (Figure 1), an important alkaloid from the Cinchona calisaya bark. This compound was an important model for cloroquine synthesis, a drug that was widely used in malaria treatment. In addition, one of the principal medicines used today is artemisinine, isolated from the Chinese plant Artemisia annua L (2) (Figure 1), and their semi synthetic derivatives (artesunate, artemeter, arteter). However, the malaria parasite has already shown resistance to most of these current drugs and the search for new candidates is essential. Lupeol (3) (Figura 1) is a compound that occurs in many plant species and discloses antimalarial, antiinflamatoryl and antitumoral activities. Considering its potential as a lead antimalarial molecule, we focused our work in the synthesis of new lupeol derivatives with increased antimalarial activity(scheme 1). Relata-se nesse trabalho a síntese e caracteriza o de derivados do luepol para avalia o da atividade antimalárica. Historicamente, as plantas s o uma importante fonte de fármacos antimaláricos destacando-se a quinina (1) (Figura 1), um alcalóide extraído da casca da Cinchona calisaya, que serviu de modelo para síntese da cloroquina, um dos fármacos que foi mais amplamente empregado no tratamento da malária. Atualmente, os principais fármacos em uso clínico s o a artemisinina, isolada da planta chinesa Artemisia annua L. (2) (Figura 1), e seus derivados semi-sintéticos (artesunato, artemeter, arteter). A busca de novos antimaláricos é de alta relevancia, uma vez que já se registrou resistência do P. falciparum à artemisinina e derivados. Sabe-se que o lupeol (3) (Figura 1) ocorre em várias espécies vegetais e possui atividades antimalárica, anti-inflamatória e antitumoral. Dessa forma, ele foi escolhido como material de partida para a síntese de novas drogas com potencial atividade antimalárica. Prop e-se com esse projeto modifica es químicas no lupeol, incluindo a incorpora o da 7- cloroquinolina à estrutura deste, via síntese de híbridos triazólicos. Comparison of two methods for the control of gastrointestinal nematodes in lambs and ewes/ Compara o de dois métodos de controle de nematódeos gastrintestinais em borregas e ovelhas de corte

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the control of nematode gastrintestinal on ovine meat breeds in Voisin pasturing system during one grazing year. The experiment was carried out at the Research Center Farm of the Passo Fundo University during the period of June 2005 to July 2006. The animals were kept in 85 pasture blocks with 810 square meters each. In the experiment 42 ewe hoggets and 42 Suffolk, Ile de France purebreed and crosses ewes were subdivided in four groups composed of 21 animals each. The groups had been assigned as G1 (traditional sheep), G2 (traditional young ewes) both treated every 60 days with Levamisole; the groups G3 (Famacha sheep) and G4 (Famacha young ewes) were evaluated by the Famacha method. The following variables were evaluated: live weight and worm egg counts (EPG). In relation to the live weights it was proven that it did not have statistics difference (P>0,05) between ewe hoggets and adult sheep of the traditional groups when compared with the ones of the Famacha method. Differences in EPG counts during of the year in the ewe hoggets were found it had a significant reduction in the frequency of treatments for the Famacha method when compared with the traditional method, of 90,39% for ewe hoggets and 90.93% for the sheep, becoming this method a viable alternative. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o controle de helmintos gastrintestinais em ovinos de corte em um sistema de pastoreio Voisin em quatro esta es do ano. Foi realizado no Centro de Pesquisa Agropecuária da Universidade Passo Fundo no período de junho de 2005 a julho de 2006. Foram utilizados 84 fêmeas das ra as Suffolk, Ile de France puras e mesti as as quais foram subdivididas em quatro grupos composto de 21 animais cada. Os grupos foram designados como G1 (ovelha tradicional), G2 (borrega tradicional) tratadas a cada 60 dias com Levamisole; os grupos G3 (ovelha Famacha ), e G4 (borrega Famacha ) foram avaliadas pelo método Famacha . As variáveis analisadas foram peso vivo e ovos por grama de fezes (OPG). Em rela o ao peso vivo n o houve diferen a estatística (P>0,05) entre borregas e ovelhas dos grupos tradicionais quando comparadas aos do método Famacha . Ocorreram diferen as no OPG no decorrer das esta es do ano para as borregas. Houve uma significativa redu o na freqüência dos tratamentos pelo método Famacha quando comparado ao método tradicional, de 90,39% para as borregas e 90,93% para as ovelhas, tornando este método uma alternativa viável.

Abstract: Artrite como manifesta o isolada de paracoccidioidomicose, tem sido raramente descrita na literatura médica. O presente relato, descreve mulher de 46 anos de idade, com monoartrite cr nica do joelho em tratamento com anti-inflamatórios n o hormonais durante 4 anos, cujo diagnóstico definitivo foi obtido apenas por biópsia da membrana sinovial, que revelou uma inflama o cr nica granulomatosa de tipo tuberculóide, com abundantes elementos leveduriformes do Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. A terapêutica específica (iniciada com ketoconazol e seguida por cotrimoxazol) levou à completa recupera o funcional da articula o acometida. N o se detectou a presen a de outros sítios acometidos pela doen a, apesar da utiliza o de vários métodos propedêuticos, incluindo tomografia axial computadorizada do tórax e abdome. Os autores chamam a aten o para a raridade do caso e discutem os possíveis fen menos fisiopatológicos responsáveis por esta monoartrite fúngica.
Efeito da Suplementa o de Lipídios na Ra o sobre a Produ o de ácido Linoléico Conjugado (CLA) e a Composi o da Gordura do Leite de Vacas

Abstract: O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar o efeito de fontes de lipídios (soja integral moída ou óleo de soja) adicionados à dieta sobre o perfil de ácidos graxos da gordura do leite, especialmente sobre o aumento do CLA. Foram utilizadas 6 vacas multíparas 7/8 holandês-zebu, 30 dias após o parto, com peso vivo médio de 500 kg e produ o média de 20 quilos de leite ao dia. Os animais foram divididos em três grupos para recebimento das dietas (tratamentos), isoprotéicas e isoenergéticas, em que o tratamento controle continha 3% de extrato etéreo na ra o total e os demais 7%. Os tratamentos contendo fontes de lipídios, quando comparados com o controle, diminuíram o percentual de ácidos graxos de cadeia curta e diminuíram os teores dos ácidos butírico, capróico, caprílico, cáprico, láurico, mirístico e o percentual de ácidos graxos saturados. Os mesmos tenderam, ainda, a reduzir os teores de ácido palmítico e palmitoléico e tenderam a aumentar o percentual de ácidos graxos insaturados e de cadeia longa. Por outro lado, esses tratamentos aumentaram o teor de ácido esteárico e tenderam a aumentar os teores de ácido oléico e CLA. O óleo de soja, comparado ao gr o de soja moído, diminuiu os teores de ácido linoléico e linolênico e aumentou o CLA, tendeu a aumentar o teor de ácidos graxos n o identificados e a diminuir os ácidos graxos saturados. Concluindo, a inclus o de óleo de soja na dieta, e n o soja gr o, aumenta o teor de CLA na gordura do leite.

Abstract: O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar o efeito de fontes de lipídios (soja integral moída e óleo de soja) adicionados à dieta sobre a produ o e qualidades físico-químicas do leite. Foram utilizadas seis vacas multíparas 7/8 holandês-zebu, 30 dias após o parto, com peso vivo médio de 500 kg e produ o média de 20 litros de leite ao dia. Os animais foram divididos em três grupos para recebimento das dietas, isoprotéicas e isoenergéticas, em que o tratamento controle continha 3% de extrato etéreo na ra o total e os demais, 7%. N o foi verificado efeito de tratamento sobre os parametros avaliados. Os resultados das análises físico-químicas do leite est o dentro da faixa de valores recomendados pelo Regulamento de Inspe o Industrial e Sanitária de Produtos de Origem Animal.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to verify the effects of lipid sources (ground soybean and soybean oil) added to the diet on the fatty acids profile of milk fat, specially in the increasing of cla. six multiparus 7/8 holstein-zebu cows, 30 days after calving, with average body weight of 500 kg and average milk production of 20 kg/day, were used. the animals were divided in three groups in order to receive isoprotein and isocaloric diets (treatments), in which control diet had 3% ether extract in total dry matter and the others 7%. comparing to the control one, the treatments containing supplementar lipids, decreased the percentage of short chain fatty acids and decreased the content of butyric, caproic, caprilic, capric, lauric, miristic and the percentage of saturated fatty acids. there was still a trend for reduction in the content of palmitic and palmitoleic acids and a trend for increasing the percentage of unsaturated fatty acids and long chain fatty acids. supplementar lipids increased stearic acid and tended to increase oleic acid and cla. soybean oil, compared to ground soybean, decreased the content of linoleic and linolenic acids and increased cla, tended to increase the content of undentified fatty acids and tended to decrease the saturated fatty acids. in conclusion, adding soybean oil and not crushed soybean in the diet increased the content of cla in milk fat.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to verify the effect of lipids sources (whole soybean meal - wsm; and soybean oil - sbo) added to the diet on changes in milk production and its physical-chemical characteristics. six multiparous 7/8 holstein-zebu cows, averaging 30 days post calving, 500 kg body weight and daily milk production of 20 l were used. the animals were divided into three groups and received three isoproteic and isocaloric diets (treatments): control (3% ether extract), wsm (7% ether extract) and sbo (7% ether extract). there were no treatment effects on any measured parameters. the results on the physical-chemical analysis of the milk were within the range of allowed values by brazilian regulation of industrial inspection and sanity of products of animal origin.

Abstract: a four year trial of dry beans (phaseolus vulgaris l.) was conducted on ortho red yellow podzolic soils at two localities (mococa and monte alegre do sul) in the hilly region of the state of s？o paulo. the cultivars tested were: carioca, bico-de-ouro, rosinha g-2, preto g-1, pintado, rico-23, and chumbinho-opaco. in mococa the cultivar carioca yielded significantly more than others, whereas at monte alegre do sul it showed the same production as rico-23 and pintado. on the average of the eight experiments at both localities carioca yielded more than the other cultivars and can be recomended for planting in this region.
