Relations sémantiques en traduction automatique : degrés d’inclusion et limites d’application
Tóth, Andrea
Argumentum , 2011,
Abstract: Statistical machine translation (SMT) often fails when faced with the problem of recognition of semantic relations in context. This article aims to give an overview and to detect possible reasons of semantic incoherence in translations. We try to demonstrate what effect the consideration of linguistic and natural language processing (NLP) methods can have on the quality of translations. We try to argue in favour of the introduction of word sense disambiguation (WSD) methods in the word selection process.
Utilisation of 2nd generation web technologies in master level vocational teacher training

Acta Didactica Napocensia , 2009,
Abstract: The Masters level Opportunities and Technological Innovation in Vocational Teacher Education project (project site: http://motivate.tmpk.bmf.hu/) aims to develop the use and management of virtual learning environments in the area of vocational teacher training, drawing on a well established international partnership of institutions providing both technical and educational expertise. This paper gives an overall picture of the first results and products of the collaboration. We touch upon the goals, the assessments and the learning process of using “Multimedia and e-Learning: e-learning methods and tools” module in details. The main cooperative and collaborative devices are presented in virtual learning environment. The communication during collaborative learning, the structured debate on forum and the benefits of collaborative learning in VLE are interpreted at the end of this paper.
Ein Blick auf die Forschungsgeschichte und Methodik der Wortfelduntersuchungen
József Tóth
Tidsskrift for Sprogforskning , 2004,
Abstract: The present study makes an attempt to outline the continuity of the research into word fields, pointing out its six stages and highlighting the significance of this topical issue. Since an onomasiologic collection of verbal components of word fields allows no insight into the meaning structures of the verbs in either languages, and in an effort to explore new ways of their adequate analysis, the paper is therefore trying to provide an overview of and demonstrate how modern theories of word semantics such as componential analysis and the prototype theory contribute to the further development of word field theory. I illustrate the findings of my research by using the verbal word field components 'Geschehen'/'happening'. I elaborate on the definitions of word fields, notion circle and happening, and I also touch upon the working methods employed in the course of the interlingual analysis of German and Hungarian verbs, which is then followed by an interligual semantic analysis. The use of word fields in language learning and in lexicographical research is a pivotal issue if one looks into the topic. In the case of the latter one, I point out the necessity to compile a German-Hungarian, Hungarian-German dictionary of verbal word fields.

The ionosphere and radio interferometry
T. A. Th. Spoelstra
Annals of Geophysics , 1997, DOI: 10.4401/ag-3885
Abstract: This paper reviews the effects of the ionosphere on radio astronomjcal observations, what we can learn about the ionosphere from radio interferometry, and a procedure to correct for these effects. This study analyzes the results obtained from observations of celestial point soUl.ces with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope, WSRT, in the Netherlands from the period 1970-1991. The main conc1usions are: 1) A1though seasona1 effects are c1ear, the occurrence and "strength" of ionospheric irregu1arities show no dependence on solar activity. 2) Assuming that the frequency of occurrence of ionospheric disturbances in Spring and Autumn are similar, Ihe "ionospheric" Winter starts on day 348 ± 3 and ali seasons last for three months. 3) Travelling ionospheric disturbances, TIDs, occur most frequently during daytime in Winter periods. 4) The propagation parameters of these travelling ionospheric irregularities and their periods indicate that these belong main1y to the c1ass of medium sca]e TIDs. 5) Radio interferometry is a powerful tool to locate irregularities causing scintillation and to determine their dimensions. 6) The occurrence of non-periodic irregu1arities is, however, not a function of time of day. 7) The daily variation in the amplitude and frequency of occurrence of the TIDs suggest that the generation of gravity waves may be caused by winds and tides in the lower thermosphere/mesosphere. On the basis of the availab1e data, a definition of a "disturbance measure" indicating to what extent the ionosphere is "quiet" is proposed. Procedures to correct for ionospheric effects and an eva1uation of the different methods to obtain information on the ionospheric e1ectron content are reviewed in sections 8 and 9, respectively.

Abstract: With the settle of western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte) (from 1995), the spectrum of pests with potential damage in Hungary increased. The pest was followed by trapping (with sex-pheromone and colour traps). In 2000 the pest was found in whole Hungary (except Gy r-Moson-Sopron, Vas and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county), in extremely fl uctuating number (1-700 pest/trap). In the southern region for maize production (Csongrád, Békés, Bács-Kiskun, Baranya, Tolna county), where the pest was found fi rst, the number of it increased in various centres. Based on these data, we carried out insecticide experiment.
Stability and Dynamics of Cross Solitons in Harmonically Confined Bose-Einstein Condensates
T. Morgan,Th. Busch
Physics , 2013, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevA.88.063610
Abstract: We examine the stability and dynamics of a family of crossed dark solitons in a harmonically confined Bose-Einstein condensate in two dimensions. Working in a regime where the fundamental snake instability is suppressed, we show the existence of an instability which leads to an interesting collapse and revival of the initial state for the fundamental case of two crossed solitons. The instability originates from the singular point where the solitons cross, and we characterise it by examining the Bogoliubov spectrum. Finally, we extend the treatment to systems of higher symmetry.
