Extracellular Polymeric Substance (EPS) Production by Nostoc minutum under Different Laboratory Conditions  [PDF]
Dante S. Videla Pereyra, Susana G. Ferrari
Advances in Microbiology (AiM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/aim.2016.65036
Abstract: A study of the influence of different laboratory growth conditions on the biomass and EPS production by Nostoc minutum, a diazothophic cyanobacterium locally isolated, was carried out. Two culture media were tested, with or without NaNO3 addition, and three luminous intensities: low (4530 lux), intermediate (7300 lux) and high (9860 lux). BW3 medium was better than BG11 for N. minutum growth, with maximal values of biomass concentration (4.98 DO) and the highest growth rate (0.019 h-1) at 9860 lux of light intensity. A progressive increase in culture viscosity of N. minutum cultures was observed, for stirred condition and non-diazotrophic growth in BG11 medium, together with the production of maximal EPS concentration (2.485 g/L). On the other hand, the EPS production in BW3 medium was maximal in diazotrophic conditions, both for still (1.66 g/L) and stirred (2.56 g/L) cultures. The different yields of EPS reported for each condition, results in the requirement of a species-specific optimization of the cultivation conditions for the exploitation of an efficient technology for the production of N. minutum EPS.
A participa??o da comunidade na preven??o dos abusos sexuais de crian?as
Maria,Susana G.;
Análise Psicológica , 2007,
Abstract: with this article we intend to sustain the importance of primary prevention approach on child sexual abuse. to accomplish our aim we will contextualize the development done about this subject, as well as some information about the prevalence and incidence of child sexual abuse. we also describe a primary prevention program on child sexual abuse - the cap program - which is being developed in the portuguese context. to underline the importance of this kind of programs we present some studies about the impact of other child abuse prevention programs.

Abstract: This article studies the consequences that the introduction of the maestrescuela (schoolmaster) rank had for the members of the Cathedral chapter of Burgos in the middle of the fifteenth century. The long conflict, which set the schoolmaster against the Cathedral chapter, illustrates the extraordinary ability that had been developed by this institution to avoid Papal and Episcopal justice. The strength of this ability resided in the primacy of its historical statutes and customs. And, above all, on the direct dependence of the Burgos Episcopal See to the Papal Court. In practice, the remoteness of Rome allowed a certain degree of freedom. In the same context in which Bishop Acu a tried to carry out his reforms, the schoolmaster had to deal with the debate put forward by the Burgos Cathedral chapter between tradition and innovation.

Susana G. Artal
Interlitteraria , 2013, DOI: 10.12697/il.2013.18.1.10
Abstract: Tête à Tête. Observations about the “Beheading Game” in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and other Medieval Romances. In this article, I will re-examine some observations arising from the confrontation between the sequences of the “beheading game” in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and other medieval romances, in the belief that the comparative study, aside from thinking about the differences as deviations from a presumed model, must rank them as excellent starting point for analyzing the objectives of each individual occurrence and redefinition of a motive. My goal is not to construct hypotheses about an alleged lost source but reflect on the author’s will to operate on a narrative matrix, choosing or rejecting variants and adding new ones.

The Complexity of Antibody-Dependent Enhancement of Dengue Virus Infection
Maria G. Guzman,Susana Vazquez
Viruses , 2010, DOI: 10.3390/v2122649
Abstract: Antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) has been proposed as a mechanism to explain dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in the course of a secondary dengue infection. Very recently, Dejnirattisai et al., 2010 [1], published an important article supporting the involvement of anti-prM antibodies in the ADE phenomenon. The complexity of ADE in the context of a secondary dengue infection is discussed here.

Praxis Filosófica , 2006,
Abstract: in this essay, 1) i make a presentation of the kind of conceptual analysis that wittgenstein does in some of his post-tractatus works. particularly, i refer to a certain way of proceeding which consists in the description of the different uses of a concept, and which tries to clarify the conditions of functioning of our language to finally solve a certain philosophical problem. 2) i examine some passages from philosophical investigations in which wittgenstein analyses psychological concepts and i point out to certain naturalistic, externalistic and mentalistic interpretations of those passages that i find problematic. 3) i present an interpretation of wittgenstein's perspective about the existence and nature of psychological states and processes that considers both the kind of analysis done by wittgenstein and some statements extracted from investigations and blue and brown books.
