2. Sonourethrography in the evaluation of anterior urethral stricture: correlation with retrograde urethrography in male

Abstract: Purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of sonourethrography (SUG) in detection and evaluation of anterior urethral strictures in male compared with retrograde urethrography (RUG). 50 male patients with clinically suspected benign anterior urethral stricture were subjected to RUG followed by SUG performed independently by different observer and subsequently correlated with operative findings. 50 patients with a diagnosis of urethral stricture were evaluated. Short segment, intermediate and long segment urethral stricture were detected were detected by RUG in 13,17,10 patients respectively as compared to 15,18,13 patients by SUG respectively. Sensitivity for detection of short, intermediate and long segment stricture with sonourethrography was 100%, 90.9%; & 88.2% respectively as compared to 88.23%; 83.3%, & 65.2% respectively on retrograde urethrography. Apart from stricture, mucosal, submucosal and periurethral soft tissue abnormalities could be followed up by sonourethrography as compared to retrograde urethrography. Mucosal abnormalities could be detected by SUG in 30% cases as compared to 10% by RUG, submucosal abnormalities were detected in 18% by SUG as opposed to none in RUG & spongiofibrosis was detected in 50% of case by SUG as opposed to none by RUG. SUG could detect diverticulas in 14% as against 8% by RUG and false tract in 6% cases by SUG as against 2% by SUG. Sonourethrography is highly sensitive for and accurate predictor of anterior urathral stricture for the detection of site and length of stricture for planning surgery and should be preferred diagnostic procedure. Retrograde urethrography underestimated the length of stricture in most of the cases. In addition, periurethral soft tissues can be well assessed by sonourethrography.
Mathematical Model to Locate Interference of Blast Waves from Multi-Hole Blasting Rounds  [PDF]

Abstract: Maximum charge per delay in a blasting round is universally accepted as the influencing parameter to quantify magni-tude of vibration for any distance of concern. However, for any blasting round experimental data reveals that for same charge per delay magnitude of vibration varies with total charge. Considering linear transmission of blast waves, the paper firstly investigates into the influence of explosive weight, blast design parameters and geology of strata on magnitude and characteristics of vibration parameters and thereafter communicates that possibly interference of blast waves generated from same and different holes of a blasting round result into variation in vibration magnitude. The paper lastly developed a mathematical model to evaluate points of interference of blast waves generated from single- and multi-hole blasting round.

Abstract: Advertisement and R & D expenditures are often considered as strategic variables which add value to the firm. During recession these expenses are often been compromised due to various reasons by the firms. This sometimes proves out to be costly for the firms in long run as they fail to catch up even after recession is over. Firms while taking these decisions often ignore the interaction effect of these variables with other variables in affecting profitability. This paper aims to show that Advertisement and R & D activities have moderated other variables in positively affecting performance especially during recession. Hence, firms must take into consideration the interaction effects of R & D and advertisement intensities with other important variables.

The concept of Multidisciplinary approach is not new to Medical Science. It is an evolving concept that is widely appreciated and adopted in most of the disciplines of medicine. It’s rational and applicable in the management of Child and Adolescent Depression,which needs to be revisited focusing on the interplay of various contextual factors that are entwined and tend to affect the course of the illness. The limitations of any one mental health professional in envisioning all possible dimensions of Child and Adolescent Depression make this approach all the more important wherein Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatric Social Workers collaborate with each other and other allied professionals in the treatment and management of the disorder. India, being a heavily populated country, where multidisciplinary management approach is in a phase of expansion and is practiced in many leading institutes to meet the quality needs of patients. This article focuses on the Indian scene of multidisciplinary management approach in child and adolescent depression.

Magnetohydrodynamic stability of stochastically driven accretion flows

Abstract: We investigate the evolution of magnetohydrodynamic perturbations in presence of stochastic noise in rotating shear flows. The particular emphasis is the flows whose angular velocity decreases but specific angular momentum increases with increasing radial coordinate. Such flows, however, are Rayleigh stable, but must be turbulent in order to explain astrophysical observed data and, hence, reveal a mismatch between the linear theory and observations/experiments. The mismatch seems to have been resolved, at least in certain regimes, in presence of weak magnetic field revealing magnetorotational instability. The present work explores the effects of stochastic noise on such magnetohydrodynamic flows, in order to resolve the above mismatch generically for the hot flows. It is found that such stochastically driven flows exhibit large temporal and spatial autocorrelations and cross-correlations of perturbation and hence large energy dissipations of perturbation, which generate instability.

Abstract: An all-optical 2-to-4 decoder unit with the assist of terahertz optical asymmetric demultiplexer (TOAD) is presented. The all-optical 2-to-4 decoder with a set of all-optical switches is designed which can be used to achieve a high-speed central processor unit using optical hardware. The unique output lines can be used for all-optical header processing. We attempt to develop an integrated all-optical circuit which can perform decoding of signal. This scheme is very simple and flexible for performing different logic operation and to design advanced complex logic. Simulated results are confirming the described methods.
Recrystallization of tubules from natural lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) wax on a Au(111) surface

Abstract: We present here the first results on the self-assembly of tubules of natural wax from lotus leaves on a single crystal Au(111) surface. A comparison of the tubule growth on Au(111) to that on HOPG is discussed. Although the tubule formation on both Au(111) and HOPG takes place on an intermediate wax film which should mask the substrate properties, the tubule orientations differ. In contrast to a vertical tubule orientation on HOPG, the tubules lie flat on Au(111). Taking into account the physical properties of HOPG and Au(111), we put forward a hypothesis which can explain the different tubule orientations on both substrates.
New solitary cysticercus granulomas causing recurrent symptoms in patients with resolved solitary granulomas

Abstract: Recurrence of symptoms in a patient with a resolved solitary cerebral cysticercus granuloma (SCCG) is uncommon. Recurrent seizures in these patients are generally attributed to an epileptogenic scar or calcific residue of the granuloma. We report two patients with recurrent seizures and one patient with headache; all three patients were previously diagnosed to have SCCG and had complete resolution of the granuloma on follow-up imaging. Computed tomography (CT) at the time of recurrent symptoms showed a SCCG at a site different from the initial lesion, but in the same cerebral hemisphere in all the three patients. Since a new lesion can cause recurrent symptoms in patients with a resolved SCCG, repeat imaging should be performed in all these patients. We also postulate that recurrent cysticercal lesions in patients who have previously had a SCCG, tend to be solitary.

Abstract: We investigate the evolution of hydromagnetic perturbations in a small section of accretion disks. It is known that molecular viscosity is negligible in accretion disks. Hence, it has been argued that a mechanism, known as Magnetorotational Instability (MRI), is responsible for transporting matter in the presence of weak magnetic field. However, there are some shortcomings, which question effectiveness of MRI. Now the question arises, whether other hydromagnetic effects, e.g. transient growth (TG), can play important role to bring nonlinearity in the system, even at weak magnetic fields. Otherwise, whether MRI or TG, which is primarily responsible to reveal nonlinearity to make the flow turbulent? Our results prove explicitly that the flows with high Reynolds number (Re), which is the case of realistic astrophysical accretion disks, exhibit nonlinearity by TG of perturbation modes faster than that by modes producing MRI. For a fixed wave vector, MRI dominates over transient effects, only at low Re, lower than its value expected to be in astrophysical accretion disks, and low magnetic fields. This seriously questions (overall) persuasiveness of MRI in astrophysical accretion disks.
