The fear of falling is one of the main problems with subjects after stroke. Imagery could be one succeed experience to decrease this issue. The aim of this study was to verify the effect of a short-time imagery intervention in fear of falling in subjects after stroke. Seven individuals affected by stroke participated in the study. The Falls Efficacy Scale International (FES-I-Brazil) were used before (PRE), after (POST) and seven days after intervention (RET). Four session of familiarization and six of imagery were performed. There were no difference in FES-I-Brazil score after intervention (p=0.46), except in up/down stairs task (PRE and POST, p=0.04; PRé and RET, p=0.01). Although, the improvement in up/down stairs task, no more changes were found in the scale items, which could represent a relatively reduced effect of short-time imagery intervention.

Abstract: The arm of this study was to relate lipidic levels to global and central obesity in adolescents. Transversal, descriptive and co-relational study. 127 pubescent subjects took part in this study, 71 girls (13.39+1.81 years) and 56 boys (13.10+1.97 years). It was identified global adiposity through the body mass index (BMI) as well central adiposity through the waist circumference (WC), according to age, sex, and ethnics. It had been determined levels of total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein (LDL-C) and triglycerides (TG) after twelve hours of overnight fasting. The date had been analyzed through Chi-square test and Pearson`s correlation, considering the significance level of p<0.05. It had been identified increased levels of TC in the obese group (boys=61.90%; girls=56.89%) as well as in the non-obese group (boys=64.28%; girls=61.54%), without statistical difference. The HDL-C were lower in the boys obese group compared to the non-obese (64.29% vs 28.57%; p=0.019) and in the female obese group in relation to the non-obese (60.35% vs 23.08%; p=0.014). It was identified a greater proportion of TC surplus in he male obese group than in the non-obese (50% vs 14.29%; p=0.018). Positive associations were verified for logn TG and logn BMI (r=0.215; p<0.001) and logn TG e logn WC (r=0.210; p<0.001), negative relations were observed in logn HDL-C and logn BMI (r=-0.425; p<0.001) and logn TG and logn WC (r=-0.365; p<0.001). This study has shown greater proportion of decreased levels of TG in obese adolescents comparing to the non-obese. It was observed moderate inverse associations of HDL-C to the global and central adiposity.

Abstract: fibromyalgia can limit activities of daily living (adls) performance and has a negative impact on the quality of life of these patients. the objective of this study was to evaluate the association between direct and indirect methods for the assessment of functional capacity and their relationship with some features of fibromyalgia. thirty-eight women with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia participated in the study. functional capacity was assessed by the health assessment questionnaire (haq), distance in the six-minute walk test (6mwt), and handgrip strength (hgs). pain was rated on a visual analog scale. the fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (fiq) was applied to assess the impact on quality of life. body mass index and waist circumference were also evaluated. pearson's correlation test was used for parametric data and spearman's correlation test for nonparametric data. multiple regressions were also performed. pain intensity was high in the patients (median: 9.5). the 6mwt distance was correlated with haq score (r=-0.55, p<0.01) and hgs (r=0.34, p<0.01). pain was correlated with hgs (r=-0.41, p<0.01), haq score (r=0.62, p<0.01), and fiq (r =0.66, p<0.01). pain intensity explained 40% of the variation in haq scores. this variation increased to 60% after inclusion of 6mwt distance. in conclusion, pain seems to compromise hgs, adls and quality of life in women with fibromyalgia. the lower performance in the 6mwt might be explained by high body mass index. taking into account pain, the haq seems to be an appropriate tool for the assessment of functional capacity in women with fibromyalgia.

Pearson’s correlation test was used for parametric data and Spearman’s correlation test for nonparametric data.

Abstract: vanadium oxide supported on hydrotalcite-type precursors was studied in the decomposition of isopropanol. hydrotalcite-type compounds with different y = mg+2/al+3 ratios were synthesized by the method of coprecipitating nitrates of mg+2 and al+3 cations with k2co3 as precipitant. the x-ray diffraction patterns of al-rich hydrotalcite precursors showed the presence of crystalline phases of brucite and gibbsite. it was shown that chemical composition, texture, acid-base properties of the active sites and also mg/al ratio strongly affect the formation of the products in the oxidation of isopropanol. the al-rich catalysts were much more active than the mg-rich ones, converting isopropanol mainly to propylene.
