Abstract: In this paper, an algorithm to produce a transition matrix between all states in ideal anti-paramagetic system under the simulated annealing condition that only moves to lower energy states are accepted. The check the accuracy of the transition matrix is confirmed by computer simulation, showing close agreement between model and simulation results.

Comparative Leaf Anatomy and Pressure-Volume Analysis in Plants of Ipomoea pes-caprae Experimenting Saline and/or Drought Stress

Abstract: Ipomoea pes-caprae is a vine common in tropical and subtropical coasts. This species appears to be more susceptible to drought as compared with saline stress and when both stresses are combined, the water and carbon balance may be enhanced compared with the two stresses applied independently. In this study, leaf anatomy and parameters obtained by P-V analysis were measured in I. pes-caprae experimenting saline and/or water stress. NaCl and PEG were used to induce iso-osmotic pressures in the soil solution (Ψsol) to -5 and -10 bar and both osmotica were combined to apply simultaneous saline and water stress (S+W) for a total reduction in Ψsol of -5 bar. Saline and/or water stress increased the lamina thickness and cell size but the effect was higher under high saline stress. Osmotic potential at full (Ψπ100) and at zero (Ψπ0) turgor were significantly lower at high salinity and S+W stress, compared with the other treatments. Osmotic adjustment resulting from net solute accumulation explains 85-98% of the total change in Ψπ. The contribution of dehydration to changes in Ψπ was apparent only under high water stress. Single stress had no significant effect on the modulus of elasticity (ε) and apoplastic water fraction. However, plants growing under S+W showed the lowest values of ε. Changes in Ψπ and ε affected the relative ability of plants subjected to S+W treatment to maintain high turgor pressure at lower relative water content and confirm that the ability of I. pes-caprae to grow under lower Ψsol may be increased if experiments both stresses simultaneously.
Evaluating Qualitative Research Studies for Evidence Based Library and Information Practice

Abstract: Objective ‐ Research studies in the literature that may be useful for solving professional practice questions are frequently based on findings from studies that use qualitative methods. Criteria used to appraise qualitative research are still evolving and often lack the readily understood precision of the numerical criteria used for quantitative research. Qualitative research studies can often be more valuable than quantitative studies for a given situation. This article offers a template to assess qualitative methods used in practitioner‐led research for library and information science. Methods – This paper presents a narrative scenario of a library management problem. After conducting a literature search, the author identified an article with apparent relevance and potential to help resolve the problem. The author then evaluated the article using an assessment framework to illustrate how qualitative library research can be assessed. The paper examines the components of the framework, and explores the process. Results ‐ The appraisal of the selected article demonstrates that qualitative methods used in library research can be critically evaluated for evidence to assist librarians in addressing their professional practice questions. Conclusions ‐ Results obtained from qualitative research projects can be applied as evidence to support library practice. Qualitative methods are useful, and for many library practice issues, the assessment process illustrated here will help librarians evaluate the evidence and assess its appropriateness for practice.
Objetivos y características de la química computacional y su aplicación al estudio de los materiales de carbono

Abstract: El objetivo principal de la Química Computacional(QC) es predecir todo tipo de propiedadesmoleculares de sistemas químicos. Adicionalmente,la QC ofrece información útil para racionalizar ointerpretar tendencias y enunciar relaciones deestructura-actividad. Para ello, la QC emplea unaamplia gama de técnicas teóricas en constantedesarrollo y mejora. La naturaleza del modelomolecular de interés y la del problema o propiedada estudiar condicionan la selección del método(s) autilizar. Muchas de las herramientas de la QC puedenser aplicadas por todo tipo de científicos, no sólopor especialistas. Es necesario un conocimientobásico de los fundamentos de los métodos teóricos,capacidad de análisis crítico de los resultados, ciertahabilidad en el manejo del software y acceso arecursos de hardware optimizados para cálculo dealtas prestaciones. La caracterización de los nuevosmateriales de carbono (nanotubos, grafenos, etc.)ha venido haciendo un uso intensivo de la QC. Perola aplicación de la QC es igualmente interesantepara comprender las bases moleculares delcomportamiento de todo tipo de materiales decarbono.
Quantum randomness can be controlled by free will -a consequence of the before-before experiment

Abstract: The before-before experiment demonstrates that quantum randomness can be controlled by influences from outside spacetime, and therefore by immaterial free will. Rather than looking at quantum physics as the model for explaining free will, one should look at free will as a primitive principle for explaining why the laws of Nature are quantum.
The Free Will Theorem and the Flash Ontology implicitly assume the Before-Before Experiment and thereby imply free will. Comment on a note by Nicolas Gisin in arXiv:1002.1392v1

Abstract: It is argued that both the "Free Will Theorem" (FWT) and the "relativistic GRW model with Flash Ontology" (rGRWf) hiddenly assume the result of the before-before experiment, and for this reason both FWT and rGRWf imply free will in the world outside free experimenters.

Abstract: It is argued that the quantum correlations are not maximally nonlocal to make it possible to control local outcomes from outside spacetime, and quantum mechanics emerges from timeless nonlocality and biased local randomness. This rules out a world described by NL (nonlocal) boxes. A new type of experiments is suggested.
