Geographic Information Technologies for the Study of Mass Wasting Hazards  [PDF]
Henry Pacheco, Carlos Suárez
International Journal of Geosciences (IJG) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ijg.2014.55048
Abstract:

The purpose of the research was to obtain the mass wasting hazard map for the state of Vargas, central coast of Venezuela, using GIS technology. The work was developed through the heuristic method with the generation of thematic digital maps, univariate statistical treatment, weighting of each variable and quantifying the relationship of each parameter unit regarding mass wasting processes. The algorithm designed to perform map algebra was designed using the variables: surface geology, slope, slope orientation, terrain curvature, moisture topographic index, power index surface flow rate and capacity sediment transport and the rate normalized difference vegetation. The results show a distribution of landslide hazard with the highest values in the west central part of Vargas state, where the dominant lithology is incompetent, and combined with topographic elements, determining high instability, meanwhile the lower hazard areas were found in specific areas such as the middle watershed areas east of the state. The calibration of this model shows a reliability of 80%, so it is highly advisable to use the information generated in this work by governmental and non-governmental organizations in the planning, management and use of land.

Feministas en la transición asturiana
Suárez Suárez,Carmen;
La aljaba , 2005,
Abstract: the objective of this article is to summarize the contribution of the asturian feminists to the creation of the social and political network that was developed in spain in such remarkable period as it was the spanish political transition. the death of francisco franco in 1975 was the first step in the transition from dictatorship to the configuration of a democratic system. in such a context, a number of women′s movements and the feminist movement played a significant role. between the end of dictatorship in 1975 and 1983, the year in which the institute of the woman was created, feminists published their political programme and added a specific point of view about the society; they pointed out the discriminatory attitude towards women during centuries; a claim was vigorously made that no democratic country could be built with only half of the population. asturias was a microcosm in which women′s universal claims could be seen and also experienced, and in this way, the feminist association of asturias streamed the claims and activism of all the asturian women in the political transition.
Feministas en la transición asturiana The feminists in the asturian transition

The objective of this article is to summarize the contribution of the Asturian feminists to the creation of the social and political network that was developed in Spain in such remarkable period as it was the Spanish political transition. The Effect of the MeV Si-Ion Irradiation on the Photoluminescence of Silicon Nanocrystals  [PDF]
Alejandra López-Suárez
World Journal of Condensed Matter Physics (WJCMP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/wjcmp.2013.32019
Abstract:

Silicon nanocrystals embedded in silicon nitride films were irradiated with Si-ions at 8 MeV in order to modify their optical response. The samples were characterized by means of Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry, Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis, High-Resolution Transmission Electronic Microscopy and Photoluminescence analysis. It was found a blue-shift in the photoluminescence emission from the as-grown films after they were irradiated with high energetic silicon ions. According to the quantum confinement theory, this fact is related to a decrease in size of the silicon nanocrystals, which means that a higher silicon fluence irradiation is related with a diminishing in silicon nanocrystal size.

OBSERVACIONES SOBRE LA GERMINACIóN DE TRES ESPECIES DEL GéNERO Citharexylum Jacq. EMPLEADAS EN RESTAURACIóN ECOLóGICA
rez Suárez,Bibiana;
Colombia Forestal , 2011,
Abstract: high-quality plant material is needed to allow the development of large-scale projects in ecological restoration. for this reason, three native species from the andean forest were prioritized to study their germination: citharexylum montanum, citharexylum sulcatum and citharexylum subflavescens. pyrenes of these species were subjected to different pre-germination methods such as: scarification and hydration, hydration for 96 hours and hydration for 72 hours respectively for each species mentioned.the total percentage of germination, day of initiation of germination and mean germination time (mgt) were assessed for each species. as a result, total germination percentage was low for all species; c. subflavescens was the species that presented the highest value (41.3%). only the treatment of scarification and hydration applied to c. montanum favored the germination percentage. the fastest time for germination initiation was 20 days for the species c. subflavescens and c. montanum. due to the fact that the three species showed heterogeneous germination, the mean germination time (mgt) was high for all species. the observations suggest that physical scarification prior to hydration promotes both the percentage and the day of initiation of germination in citharexylum.
La energía humana el esfuerzo físico
