Grondtrekke van Adrio K nig se teologie
S.A Strauss
Acta Theologica , 2005,
Abstract: In 2001 Adrio K nig published a book Focus on 300 questions about faith, which most people ask (title translated). Basically this book can be regarde as a summary of K nig’s systematic theology. K nig’s theology is so stimulating that it deserves research. This article analyses Focus, with reference to other books by the same author, aiming at disclosing the basic features of his theology. The article concludes that K nig’s theology can be described, from a reformed perspective, as ambiguous: biblical as well as contextual, confessional as well as ecumenical. K nig describes his theology as “eschatological covenant theology”. The positive and negative implications are also discussed.
Reformed theology for the 21st century: confessional, contextual and ecumenical
S.A Strauss
Acta Theologica , 2005,
Abstract: This article scrutinises two important, recently published books on the identity of Reformed theology. These books serve as a springboard for the formation of ideas concerning the way in which Reformed theology should be practised in the 21st century. The article tests the hypothesis that the correct connection and relationship between confession, context and ecumenicity guarantees the practising of meaningful, thorough and useful Reformed theology.
The uniqueness of Jesus Christ and pluralism from the perspective of the reformed confession
S.A Strauss
Acta Theologica , 2006,
Abstract: This article investigates the current issue of the relationship between Christian and non-Christian religions in multi-religious societies. The philosophical backgrounds of the pluralistic approach are summarised. Subsequently the (Dutch) Reformed confessions are scrutinised for Biblical guidelines which may be helpful in finding a solution for the problem of being Christians in a multi-religious society. It is argued that pluralism must be rejected, while both inclusivism and exclusivism can also not be accepted uncritically.

Die verhouding tussen dogmatiek en etiek in die teologie van J.A. Heyns
S.A. Strauss
In die Skriflig , 2002, DOI: 10.4102/ids.v36i2.503
Abstract: The relationship between dogmatics and ethics in the theology of J.A. Heyns The relationship between Amie van Wyk and Johan Heyns was characterized by congeniality. To honour Van Wyk, a central theme from the theology of Heyns is examined. The investigation covers both the aspects of Heyns’ theoretical reflection on, as well as the practical application of the relationship between dogmatics and ethics. This investigation leads to the conclusion that Heyns’ theology needs to be supplemented in this regard. A few examples of the possibilities that could extend Heyns’ theology are suggested.
The Large-Scale Velocity Field
Michael A. Strauss
Physics , 1996,
Abstract: I summarize both observational and theoretical developments in the last few years in measuring and understanding the large-scale velocity field of galaxies, with special attention to the bulk flow, or average peculiar velocity, within spheres centered on the Local Group.
Recent Advances in Redshift Surveys of the Local Universe
Michael A. Strauss
Physics , 1996,
Abstract: I review progress in the past few years in studying the large-scale structure of the universe through redshift surveys of galaxies. Of the many statistical methods used to describe the galaxy distribution, I concentrate here on the power spectrum, and go into some detail about the factors which complicate (and make interesting!) its interpretation, such as redshift space distortions, non-linear effects, and the relative bias of galaxies and dark matter. I also discuss two large redshift surveys which are just starting, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, and the Two Degree Field Redshift Survey, which promise to increase the number of redshifts measured of galaxies in uniform surveys by more than an order of magnitude.
