Stereo Video Transmission Using LDPC Code  [PDF]

Abstract: Stereo video is widely used because it can provide depth information. However, it is difficult to store and transmit stereo video due to the huge data amount. So, high efficient channel encoding algorithm and proper transmission strategy is needed to deal with the video transmission over limited bandwidth channel. In this paper, unequal error protection (UEP) based on low density parity check (LDPC) code was used to transmit stereo video over wireless channel with limited bandwidth. Different correction level LDPC code was used according to the importance of video stream to reconstruction at the receiver. Simulation result shows that the proposed transmission scheme increases the PSNR of reconstructed image, and improves the subjective effect.

Abstract: Video object segmentation and stereo correspondence is a key technology in object-based stereo video coding. In this paper, based on an algorithm for extracting video object in one view-channel, a new contour tracking and correspondence algorithm is first proposed for extracting stereo video object pairs. Then, a disparity estimation algorithm based on video objects is proposed. It takes a characteristic pixel as a correspondence primitive and the disparity estimation is implemented with disparity constraints. The disadvantages of discontinuous and imprecise disparities with the traditional block-based algorithms can be improved and a precise and smooth disparity field can be finally acquired.

A New Object-Based System for Fractal Video Sequences Compression

Abstract: A novel object-based fractal monocular and stereo video compression scheme with quadtree-based motion and disparity compensation is proposed in this paper. Fractal coding is adopted and each object is encoded independently by a prior image segmentation alpha plane, which is defined exactly as in MPEG-4. The first n frames of right video sequence are encoded by using the Circular Prediction Mapping (CPM) and the remaining frames are encoded by using the Non Contractive Interframe Mapping (NCIM). The CPM and NCIM methods accomplish the motion estimation/ compensation of right video sequence. According to the different coding or user requirements, the spatial correlations between the left and right frames can be explored by partial or full affine transformation quadtree-based disparity estimation/ compensation, or simply by applying CPM/NCIM on left video sequence. The testing results with the nature monocular and stereo video sequences provide promising performances at low bit rate coding. We believe it will be a powerful and efficient technique for the object-based monocular and stereo video sequences coding.

Abstract: This paper proposed a multiview video rate control scheme based on human stereo visual feature.First,the new quantitative measure for stereo video quality is introduced.Then,the bit allocation scheme is derived on the basis of this measure.Finally,the macroblock quantization parameters are modified according to the quantization parameter of the neighboring macroblock on the purpose of eliminating block effect in stereo video.The experiment results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can improve the stereo video quality and obtain quite stable rate.

Abstract: Stereo video object segmentation is a key technology in the multi-view video interacting. In this paper,based on the compressed domain information a novel stereo video object segmentation algorithm is proposed to improve the validity and accuracy of the segmentation. Firstly,we extract motion vectors and disparity field to segment the initial video object. Then we used the mean-shift algorithm to cluster the video object. Experimental results shows that the proposed algorithm could obtain the object with semantic confornity from the scene with complex texture.

Abstract: Stereo video is an important future trend in video technologies and intellectual property rights protection for stereo video should be resolved in advance to avoid piracy.In this paper,based on our previous research work on both digital watermarking and stereo video,a novel adaptive digital watermarking algorithm for stereo video is proposed after analyzing the characteristics of stereo video.The watermark is embedded into disparity vectors of enhancement-layer stream,without affecting the structure of base-layer stream.The proposed algorithm is an adaptive one,which keep the quality degradation of the overall reconstructed video images being the smallest.The whole watermarking process is mainly performed in compressed domain without the need of the fully decoding of compressed stream.And watermark detection can be blindly performed without the need of the original video sequence.As a whole,the proposed algorithm is fast,simple.Experimental results with several stereo sequences show that the embedding of watermark has little affection on image quality and the degradation of PSNR with the adaptive algorithm is smaller than that with non-adaptive algorithm.
