This study deals with the analysis of relationship between 67 environmental indicators in geological environment and breast cancer mortality in Slovakia. Primary data comprises a database of 67 environmental indicators for groundwater and soils as a mean value for every Slovak municipality and the data on relative mortality from breast cancer for Slovak municipalities (about 2900) collected for the period of 22 years. The training neural network was used as a mathematical model for data analysis. The top 200 networks have identified 12 environmental indicators (8 for soils: pHKCl, carbonates, Ca, Mg, Na, Co, Sr and 4 for groundwater: Ba, SiO2, Zn, Fe) with high rate of influence. As the most influential environmental indicator was identified pHKCl in soil that should be within the range of acids, definitely under the neutral point. Most of environmental indicators were unambiguously identified as negative (Mg, Ca, Sr, carbonates, Ba, SiO2, Zn and Fe). These indicators should be at the lowest level of their concentration in related geological component. Three environmental indicators, Ce, Na and Co had parabolic function where certain essential concentration levels of these elements are presumed with protective effect on human health. For all influential indicators limit values with respect to the lowest mortality were proposed. The verification of achieved results was performed through regressive model of breast cancer mortality for 12 calculated influential environmental indicators for all municipalities in the Slovak Republic. The revealed difference between real mortality levels and the model values was found for 6 environmental indicators (pHKCl, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn). Each executed limit has decreased breast cancer mortality for about 0.79 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Space in multi-agent systems modelling spatial processes
Petr Rapant
Acta Montanistica Slovaca , 2007,
Abstract: Need for modelling of spatial processes arise in the spehere of geoinformation systems in the last time. Some processes (espetially natural ones) can be modeled by means of using external tools, e. g. for modelling of contaminant transport in the environment. But in the case of socio-economic processes suitable tools interconnected with GIS are still in quest of reserch and development. One of the candidate technologies are so called multi-agent systems. Their theory is developed quite well, but they lack suitable means for dealing with space. This article deals with this problem and proposes solution for the field of a road transport modelling.
A New Fairness-Oriented Packet Scheduling Scheme with Reduced Channel Feedback for OFDMA Packet Radio Systems  [PDF]

Int'l J. of Communications, Network and System Sciences (IJCNS) , 2009, DOI: 10.4236/ijcns.2009.27068
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a flexible and fairness-oriented packet scheduling approach for 3GPP UTRAN long term evolution (LTE) type packet radio systems, building on the ordinary proportional fair (PF) scheduling principle and channel quality indicator (CQI) feedback. Special emphasis is also put on practical feedback reporting mechanisms, including the effects of mobile measurement and estimation errors, reporting delays, and CQI quantization and compression. The performance of the overall scheduling and feedback re-porting process is investigated in details, in terms of cell throughput, coverage and resource allocation fairness, by using extensive quasistatic cellular system simulations in practical OFDMA system environment with frequency reuse of 1. The performance simulations show that by using the proposed modified PF ap-proach, significant coverage improvements in the order of 50% can be obtained at the expense of only 10-15% throughput loss, for all reduced feedback reporting schemes. This reflects highly improved fairness in the radio resource management (RRM) compared to other existing schedulers, without essentially com-promising the cell capacity. Furthermore, we demonstrate the improved functionality increase in radio re-source management for UE’s utilizing multi-antenna diversity receivers.

Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2010.27077
Abstract: Surface waters of eutrophic bogs (fens) in the North-Siberian (Taimyr) lowland are characterized by hydrocarbonate, sulfate as well as hydro carbonate-sulfate calcium-magnesium composition. They relate to the type of oxygen waters, mainly, to the class of neutral weakly alkaline and to the family of ultrafresh and fresh waters and to the kind of waters poor with dissolved organic matter. Natural hydrochemical background of bog ecosystems makes in heavy metals in the first approximation: Co–0.16, Pb–0.57, Ni–4.67 and Cu–5.94 mkg/L. In most cases the surface waters are not polluted by heavy metals. Bog waters located in immediate closeness from Norilsk mining and smelting industrial complex are polluted by nickel at mid-level.
Reconstruction Parameters of Local Scattering Sources of a Metallic Strip from the Backscattering Pattern  [PDF]

Journal of Electromagnetic Analysis and Applications (JEMAA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jemaa.2012.412069
Abstract: In this paper, it is proved the ability of quantity reconstruction, amplitudes and coordinates of metallic strip local scattering sources from the backscattering pattern. They are performed as the results of numerical solution for the infinite perfect conducting strip in case of E-polarization of the incident plane electromagnetic wave. In this case it is necessary to fulfill the following conditions. The local sources amplitudes should be the same order, in transverse and longitudinal directions the local sources should be separated into distances more than apparatus resolution, and the object maximum size does not have to be more than approximately 50λ. It was shown the limit and ability of the further development of the offered method.
Hamiltonian of Acoustic Phonons in Inhomogeneous Solids  [PDF]

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2013.43052

Theoretical solid-state physicists formulate their models usually in the form of a Hamiltonian. In quantum mechanics, the Hamilton operator \"\"(Hamiltonian) is of fundamental importance in most formulations of quantum theory. Mentioned operator corresponds to the total energy of the system and its spectrum determines the set of possible outcomes when one measures the total energy. Interpretation of results obtained by the applying of models based on the Hamiltonian indicates very specific mechanisms of some observed phenomena that are not fully consistent with the experience. Such approach may occasionally lead to surprises when obtained results are confronted with expectations. The aim of this work is to find Hamilton operator of acoustic phonons in inhomogeneous solids. The transport of energy in the vibrating crystal consisting of ions whose properties differ over long distances is described in the work. We modeled crystal lattice by 1D inhomogeneous ionic chain vibrating by acoustic frequencies and found the Hamiltonian of such system in the second quantization. The influence of long-distance inhomogeneities on the acoustic

Abstract: The article describes the development and co-ordination of the design and implementation of library automation into the information and documentation activities in former Yugoslavia from 1974 to the middle of 1981. During this period, a state-wide uniform referral system was planned to be created in accordance with the international guidelines. In agreement with the Yugoslav scientific policy guidelines, the operational information system for the scientific information system should be based on specialized and referral centres, in which the modern computer technology should be implemented. In former Yugoslavia, the self-managing agreement on referral work was adopted, and in many cases, holders of the referral work became national libraries in the republics and autonomous provinces, because they collected the creative achievements of the complete nation, and they provided the most favourable conditions for the best exploitation of library collections and other information resources. Closer co-operation between the institutions, which operated in the field of information activities at the state level, also encouraged the unification of standards for a more rational work distribution and provision of exchange and accessibility of work results. An analysis of the situation and a development programme for the scientific information system were to be carried out in former Yugoslavia, however, a complicated system of reaching the agreement on the measures to be taken and difficult economic situation of the state did not enable a quick progress in this field.

Knji?nica : Revija za Podro?je Bibliotekarstva in Informacijske Znanosti , 2002,
Abstract: The contribution presents a collection of basic information from the field of copyrights, which Slovene librarians should be familiar with since their everyday work with materials and contacts with users increasingly touches upon issues of the protection of author’s interests and the public rights of access to information. The paper gives a short historical survey of the development of copyrights abroad and particularly in Slovenia, an overview of acts adopted in Slovenia and international contracts from the field of copyright protection. Special attention is paid to the current articles of the Slovene Copyright Act, particularly those affecting the activities of public libraries.

Abstract: In a series of articles on library automation, this is the first one describing and analyzing the introduction of library automation in the National and University Library in Ljubljana and in other Slovene public libraries from the outset to 1977. It discusses the process of creating the professional basis, which enabled the subsequent application of new technologies in public library services in Slovenia, and describes the terms and conditions in which the first attempts of implementation of computer systems were carried out. It especially underlines the importance of a very high level of professional awareness of the Slovene librarians. They promoted consistent consideration of the international professional standards and trends in library automation field in spite of the unfavourable economic situation in the country of that time, when the restrictions in the allocation of funds also limited the possibilities for the development of the Slovene librarianship. Therefore, it was very significant to make the best use of all disposable resources - also very moderate potentials of new information technology - even though only a very limited number of the Slovene librarians had the access.
