Abstract:
The irresistible (and necessary) temptation of the liberating projects
Rafael Spósito
International Journal of Inclusive Democracy , 2005,
Abstract: "The dog sees other dogs die, but he does not know –at least, not by the force of syllogism – that he himself is mortal as well. Socrates knows. And because he knows he is capable of irony." Umberto Eco ................. The orthodox economist, a not very prestigious and short run cultural hero –or, which is the same thing, the governability political scientist, or the consensus sociologist, pecuniarily acknowledged by the market and able of repeated gestures of “seriousness”, “citizen responsibility”, “good behaviour” and so on– sees, sooner or later his pragmatical equals’ prosperity plans plunge one by one. But he does not realise –because he is hindered by the formalisms of his theory construction, the content of his thoughts and the social articulations he is involved in– that, despite the effort, he himself will have to give up his own plans and nonsense, at some unpredictable moment in a future that we imagine, we fancy, or we wish to come soon. Takis Fotopoulos -as radically Greek as Socrates- does realise and he knows. And because he realises and knows, he is able, as many others, to overcome blackmailing by those who award themselves the right to determine the possible and the impossible, to think of the present world crisis with an alternative vocation, and to join the overflowing stream of those who continue, perseveringly and with good reason, plotting truly liberating Utopias and projects. Towards an inclusive democracy takes place exactly within these coordinates -if it is possible to call them this way- and, at least to the Spanish speaking reader, it does it in the best and the most convenient of the circumstances. It is a time of multiple threats, several catastrophes and uncertainity galore, as well as of the decline and suspense of that reactionary biblical promise that believed in its definitive institutionalisation. It is a politically fermenting, agitated and convulsed time that recovers emancipatory longings and energy, and, once more, lodges wide spaces of redesigning and work for that unwithering aim: a society with no dominated nor dominators.

Abstract: the apa sul was created to conciliate economic activities and natural resource conservation of forest, savanna, and grasslands of the metropolitan area of belo horizonte, se brazil. the aim of this study was to characterize the floristic composition and structure of the tree community of some forest remnants from apa sul. we studied eight sites with distances among them up to 60 km, using the point-centered quarter method. in each area, we sampled 30 points, and measured circumference (> 15 cm) and height of trees. we found 55 families, 121 genera and 221 species. the number of families varied from 24 to 36 and, the number of species from 40 to 68. mean height ranged from 9.1 to 11.5 m and, mean diameter from 10.8 to 17 cm. floristic similarity indexes (jaccard) among areas ranged from 5.8 to 23.4%, showing that the areas were very different. there was no significant relationship between geographic distance and similarity index. shannon diversity indexes varied from 3.11 to 4.04 nats/individual. biodiversity conservation in apa-sul will depend on the public policies that guarantee the conservation of the largest possible number of forests and of the riparian forests that maintain the connectivity among preserved areas.
Histochemical Study of Early Embryo Implantation in Rats

International Journal of Morphology , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-95022011000100032
Abstract: embryo implantation is the process that results in attachment of the conceptus to the uterine wall. in this histochemical study, we investigated the early stage of embryo implantation in rats by morphological analysis and by the detection of total proteins and glycosaminoglycans using hematoxylin-eosin, toluidine blue at ph 4.0 (tb), and xylidine ponceau at ph 2.5 (xp). in non-pregnant females, the uterine layers could be clearly distinguished and showed the normal histology of the organ. in pregnant females, an increase in the number of cells and a reduction in the interstitial space were observed in the endometrium close to the implantation sites. the blastocyst was partially inserted in the endometrium, with the observation of the inner cells mass around the blastocyst cavity surrounded by trophoblastic cells. tb staining revealed mild metachromatic basophilia, which was more evident in the endometrial stroma around the implantation site. histochemical staining with xp was also more intense in the stroma close to the site of implantation. on the other hand, histochemical staining with either tb or xp was more discrete at sites distant from the conceptus. this study demonstrated changes in the endometrial stroma in areas adjacent to the site of embryo implantation, with variations in glycosaminoglycans and proteins as demonstrated by the detection of anionic and cationic radicals, respectively.

Abstract: citrus (citrus spp.) black spot, caused by guignardia citricarpa, is responsible for serious damage to citriculture in the state of s?o paulo. the main varieties of oranges (citrus sinensis) in s?o paulo are 'hamlin', 'pera', 'valência' and 'natal'. the literature suggests that late varieties such as 'valência' and 'natal' are most susceptible to citrus black spot, because these varieties are severely affected at harvest time. nevertheless, there is no information about the temporal disease progress in the field. resistance of the orange varieties 'hamlin' (early), 'pera' (mid-season), and 'valência' (late) to citrus black spot was assessed in a commercial grove, under conditions of natural infection. disease severity and disease incidence were assessed in 100 fruits of 100 plants of each variety, every 15 days, from the first appearance of symptoms in the field until harvest. the monomolecular model was fitted to the data of the disease progress curves for the three varieties. the rate parameter (r) of the disease progress curve was not different for the three varieties. varieties 'hamlin', 'pera' and 'valência' present the same degree of susceptibility to the mpc.

International Journal of Morphology , 2011,
Abstract: Embryo implantation is the process that results in attachment of the conceptus to the uterine wall.
