Arraes, Ronaldo A.;Sousa Filho, Edmar de;
Economia Aplicada , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-80502008000200006
Abstract: this paper focuses on the economic determinants that contribute to the formation of the prices of the real estate market of the city of fortaleza (ceará), based upon the hedonic or implicit prices theory. the model considered for the work investigates implicit prices in the curve of utility of an agent of demand segmented in two groups: direct consumer of the good house and the investor in properties, that it incorporates economical-financial additionally that measure the degree of risk and return in the formation of the hedonic prices. it is estimated the hedonic prices through segmentation by type of property taking into account several attributes distributed in the vectors of physical, location, economical and financial characteristics. the selected sample is formed by the real estate transactions occurred in the city (period from 1995 to 2003), accounting for 4.467 observations distributed among residential apartments, flats, urban lands and commercial offices.
Uma nova hemogregarina no sangue de Bufo crucifer wied, 1821 do Brasil
Sousa, Maria Auxiliadora de;Borriello Filho, Attilio;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 1974, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02761974000200009
Abstract: the occurrence of hemogregarines in the blood of brazilian toads that we have examined (bufo crucifer, b. marinus and melanophryniscus moreirae) has displayed very scarce; only one specimen of b. crucifer from manguinhos (rio de janeiro, guanabara) was infected. the blood forms that we found were intraerythrocytic, averaging 10,8 by 3,6μ; we did not differenciate them as thophozoites or as gametocytes and we discuss this fact. the infected erythrocytes were not hypertrophied and their nucleus was normal and sometimes displaced. we think that it is the first reference to hemogregarines in this host. we did not evidence identity among the forms that we described and those reported in other species of toads; we give a list of hemogregarines found in those hosts. we provisorily named the parasites that we found haemogregarina "sensu lato", until new data about their life cycle become known.
Melhoramento da mamoneira: VII - Quarta, quinta, sexta e sétima séries de ensaios de linhagens
Sousa, O. Ferreira de;Canecchio Filho, V.;
Bragantia , 1952, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051952000400001
Abstract: four series of experiments carried out from 1943 to 1951 in five experiment stations of the instituto agron?mico de campinas are described, in which 22 castor bean strains were compared with the dwarf variety n.° 38. this series comprises 10 experiments, one in campinas, one in tatui, two in jau, three in ribeir?o preto, all in the "terra roxa" type of soil, and three experiments in pindorama, in sandy soil. it was noted that the strains l881, l882 and l883, in ribeir?o preto, and the strains l 168 and l 881 in pindorama yielded more than the check variety n.° 38. in all other locations none of the new strains was significantly better than variety n.° 38. the regional behaviour of the strains will be tested in new experiments in the locations where they gave higher yields, before they are released for multiplication.
Lipossubstitui o de glandulas parótidas Fat deposition of parotid glands

Brazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology , 2013,
Parotid gland parenchyma histology may be altered by local or systemic, pathological or nonpathological conditions. OBJECTIVE: This paper aims to highlight the fatty degeneration of the parotid gland, a not well-known non-pathological condition. METHOD: In a retrospective study, we collected a series of 6 patients which presented a swelling of the parotid, but even after extensive research, a diagnosis was not reached. RESULTS: Through the retrospective analysis of records we found fatty degeneration of the parotid in an MRI scan of all patients. CONCLUSION: This condition, despite being physiological and expected with aging, may be related to clinical and radiological swelling of these glands.

Sousa, JRP de;Esposito, MC;Carvalho Filho, FS;
Neotropical Entomology , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2011000100003
Abstract: this study was carried out in the base operacional geólogo pedro de moura (bogpm) in the urucu river basin, coari, state of amazonas, brazil, during april, june, and october 2007, in 16 areas, 4 in primary forests (environment mt) and 12 in gaps (environments c1, c2, and c3) at different stages of vegetation recovery, with different plant cover height. we collected 3,547 specimens of flesh flies. the 3,525 individuals identified to species level included 10 genera, 6 subgenera, and 23 species. sarcodexia lambens (wiedemann) (47.1%) and peckia (peckia) chrysostoma (wiedemann) (19.1%) were the most abundant species. the abundance patterns and estimated richness differed between the environments, and were separated in two groups, one of the gaps (c1, c2, and c3) and another of forests (mt). both abundance and estimated richness were higher in the gaps (c1, c2, and c3) than in the forest (mt).

Abstract: the simulation of machines behavior by mathematical modeling is nowadays an important tool for reducing production costs and making new projects feasible. the present study comprises a comparison among three theories for predicting the traction performance of a tractor, developed by wismer, brixius and gee-clough. in order to compare the three theories and find out the most appropriate conditions for using them, a field experiment in which all relevant variables were controlled for further simulation was conducted by using a 2wd tractor (4x2). using the parameter obtained in field, a comparison was carried out with the results from the different simulation models. in this field study was used treatments that involved soil conditions, with grass and conventional tillage; diagonal tire; and the deflection of this tire, one bigger and the other smaller. based on those, a comparative analysis of slipping was performed between the measured and the simulated data. cn theory showed to have lower precision when compared to bn and mn theories being the cone index the variable which determines such conditions.
A produ??o científica do J Vasc Bras: conquistas e desafios
Costa-Val, Ricardo;Sousa Filho, José Carlos Taveira de;
Jornal Vascular Brasileiro , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1677-54492008000100004
Abstract: background: as a successor of cirurgia vascular e angiologia, the brazilian vascular journal (j vasc bras) is the official scientific organ of sociedade brasileira de angiologia e cirurgia vascular (sbacv) and has been making progress and achievements throughout the years. however, these achievements lead to a full commitment able to maintain a high quality standard and imply continuous challenges, not only to achieve new conquests, but also to sustain them. objective: to critically evaluate all j vasc bras publications in printed and/or electronic versions between 2002 and 2007. methods: it is a systematic review of all j vasc bras publications, both printed and electronic, released in the aforementioned period. the papers were subdivided into 12 categories and evaluated considering five aspects: a) type of publication; b) large thematic area; c) level of scientific evidence; d) references; e) country of origin of references. spsstm version 13.0 and microsoft exceltm were used for statistical analysis. there is no conflict of interest in this study. results: a total of 26 issues and nearly 400 manuscripts were evaluated, regarding all levels of scientific evidence, comprehending editorials, original and review articles, consensus and/or scientific forums, case reports, letters to the editor and final paper abstracts. the texts dealt with all large thematic areas of angiology and vascular surgery, besides bioethics, sociology, philosophy and technological innovations. however, despite a progressive paradigm shift, brazilian authors are still far from ideal with regard to appreciation of the brazilian scientific production, besides that of j vasc bras. this behavior needs to be reconsidered. conclusion: despite being young, j vasc bras has been overcoming obstacles and playing its role, both as the official scientific organ of sbacv and as a scientific journal. its achievements allow us to claim that it is in the right path, but there are still challenges to be overc

Sousa Filho, Paulo Gomes de;Alencar, Eunice M. L. Soriano;
Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-166X2003000300002
Abstract: this study investigated the differences in creative thinking abilities among 25 institutionalized children and 30 non-institutionalized children, being 23 male and 30 female. these children answered a verbal test of the torrance tests of creative thinking (torrance, 1974) and the test of creative thinking - divergent production (urban & jellen, 1996). no significant differences were observed among male and female children in the creative thinking abilities. however, a significant difference between gender was observed in the test of creative thinking - divergent production, to the advantage of the male gender as far as an interaction between gender and institutionalization in the same test. it was observed also, a positive relation among the scores of the tests.
Percep??es sociais de pacientes sobre profissionais de saúde e outros estressores no ambiente de unidade de terapia intensiva
Sousa, Leonardo Mello de;Souza Filho, Edson Alves de;
Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-166X2008000300002
Abstract: we observed patients' social perceptions about professionals as minimizers/ maximizers of stress experienced in an intensive care unit. our assumption was that the situation of an intensive care unit contributes to the appearance of phenomena that change subjective perceptions in order to deal with health/disease matters. the method consisted of applying a questionnaire to evaluate stressful factors in an intensive care unit, and it included certain questions about who would be responsible for provoking the specific stresses experienced. we analyzed relationships between these professionals and some of the dimensions of that experience: individual (patient), inter-individual (patient and other people) and intergroup (patient and professionals). there were 85 participants and we employed the pearson′s correlation and chi-square tests. the most stressful aspects were those related to the individual dimension, while the least stressful were related to physical structure and intergroup relations. we observed that the team was the figure most associated with stress, which points to a certain dilution of responsibility. there was more emphasis on the physical than the psychosocial aspects in an intensive care unit.
