Natural Plant Essential Oils for Controlling the Grasshopper (Heteracris littoralis) and their Pathological Effects on the Alimentary Canal

Abstract: In the present study, the toxic effect of three different natural essential oils of medicinal plants, namely Garlic (Allium sativum), Mint (Mintha pipereta) and Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) were tested on 1st nymphal instar of the grasshopper (Heteracris littoralis). The LC50 values of the tested oils were estimated after 14 days from feeding on treated diet mixed with different concentrations of the oil. The LC50 of the tested oils were arranged as follows: 0.067, 0.075 and 0.084ml. /100ml. diet for Garlic, Eucalyptus and Mint respectively. The effect of LC50 concentration of the oils on the biological aspects and histological changes that observed on the alimentary canal and fat bodies were recorded. The normal development of the grasshopper was exhibited. Results cleared that there was statistical variable numbers of increased the nymphal periods, life cycle, adults longevity and life span comparing with the control test. Garlic oil inhibited egg lying by the resulting females offspring of the treated1st instar nymphs. High reduction in the deposited eggs and egg fertility caused by Eucalyptus or Mint oil and marked malformation were observed. Histological changes on the alimentary canal and fat bodies of the remaining nymphs after treatment with Garlic oil (the most effective oil) were detected by the light microscope have been recorded. The results suggest that the natural plant essential oils of Garlic, Eucalyptus and Mint may be used in IPM control program against H. littoralis grasshopper.

Abstract: The electrical performance of a photovoltaic (PV) silicon solar cell is described by its current–voltage (I–V) character-istic curve, which is in turn determined by device and material properties. In this study, an investigation of the performance and device parameters of photovoltaic single crystalline silicon (Si.) solar cell of the construction n+pp++ PESC(Passivatted Emitter Solar Cell) at different conditions of solar irradiance, title angle and mirror boosting effects had been studied. Also the paper reports on the performance data of the Si. cell, using standard I–V characteristic curves to obtain output parameters and to show that there are possible performance degrading defects presents.

Abstract: Supervisory control and fault diagnosis of hybrid systems need to have complete information about the discrete states transitions of the underling system. From this point of view, the hybrid system should be abstracted to a Discrete Trace Transition System (DTTS) and represented by a discrete mode transition graph. In this paper an effective method is proposed for generating discrete mode transition graph of a hybrid system. This method can be used for a general class of industrial hybrid plants which are defined by Polyhedral Invariant Hybrid Automata (PIHA). In these automata there are no resetting maps, while invariant sets are defined by linear inequalities. Therefore, based on the continuity property of the state trajectories in a PIHA, the problem is reduced to finding possible transitions between all two adjacent discrete modes. In the presented method, the possibility and the direction of such transitions are detected only by computing the angle between the vector field and the normal vector of the switching surfaces. Thus, unlike the most other reachability methods, there is no need to solve differential equations and to do mapping computations. In addition, the proposed method, with some modifications can be applied for extracting Stochastic or Timed Discrete Trace Transition Systems.
Acute and Mid-Term Results after Pulmonary Veins Isolation Using a Novel Circular Irrigated Multielectrode Mapping and Ablation Catheter (nMARQTM)  [PDF]

Abstract:
Background: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is the cornerstone of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation in both paroxysmal and persistent AF. However, this procedure is still challenging and time consuming. Objective: The aim of this study was to present our approach for PVI using a novel circular irrigated multielectrode mapping and ablation catheter (nMARQTM) and to present acute and mid-term results. Methods: The study included 31 consecutive patients with symptomatic AF (4 had persistent and 27 had paroxysmal AF) who underwent PVI using the nMARQTM catheter. Circular ablation was guided by CT image integrated into fast anatomical map and by intra cardiac echo. Isolation of pulmonary veins was identified using the nMARQTM catheter if it was possible to advance it into the veins, otherwise Lasso catheter was used. Patients were followed up to 20 months. Results: PVI was achieved in 119 (98%) out of 121 pulmonary veins identified, and final PVI was obtained in 30 (97%) out of 31 patients. Lasso catheter was needed for PVI confirmation in 16 (52%) patients. Touch up ablation using standard catheter guided by Lasso catheter was needed in 4 (13%) patients. Pericardial tamponade occurred in 1 patient who was treated with pericardiocentesis. No other major complications were detected. During follow-up (mean 15.9 ± 3.6 months, range 9 - 20 months), 4 (13%) patients had recurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmia. Conclusion: PVI using the novel nMARQTM catheter is safe with good acute and mid-term efficacy. Long term follow up trials are needed.
Prevalence, Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Diabetes Mellitus among Jazan Population, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA)  [PDF]

Abstract: Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) prevalence is increasing in Arabian Gulf countries and Saudi Arabia is ranked as the 7th country world widely estimated to have the highest numbers of people with diabetes in 2000 and 2030. Objectives: This study intended to estimate the prevalence, risk factors of diabetes among adult population of Jazan region, Saudi Arabia. Methods: Observational cross sectional survey conducted among adult Saudi population aged 15 years of age and over who attended eight Primary Health Care Centers (PHCCs) in Jazan region. Standardized questionnaire as well as diabetic registry was utilized for this research. The questionnaire involved risk factors of DM and sociodemographic variables. Statistical analysis involved: chi-square test (or Fisher exact test where applicable) was used to evaluate the prevalence of DM among different sub-groups. The crude odds ratios (OR) were estimated by univariate analysis to observe the association of each variable with DM. Results: The overall prevalence of DM among study participants was found to be 12.3% (95% CI: 10.9 - 13.8). The prevalence of DM according to gender showed that women are of significantly higher prevalence 19.0% with confidence interval (95% C.I. 15.9 - 22.6), compared with only 9.8% for male (95% CI. 8.4 - 11.4). Participant’s body mass index, age, family history of diabetes and daily exercise and work involved physical activities that showed a significant association with DM. Conclusion: Increased prevalence of diabetes calls for urgent steps towards prevention and health promotion, programs designed to reduce its burden.
Synthesis and Cytotoxicity Evaluation of Some Novel Thiazoles, Thiadiazoles, and Pyrido[2,3-d][1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyrimidin-5(1H)-ones Incorporating Triazole Moiety

Abstract: Reactions of hydrazonoyl halides and each of methyl 2-(1-(5-methyl-1-phenyl-1 H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)ethylidene)hydrazine-1-carbodithioate and 2-(1-(5-methyl-1-phenyl-1 H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)ethylidene)hydrazine-1-carbothioamide afforded 2-(1-(5-methyl-1-phenyl-1 H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)ethylidene)hydrazono)-3-phenyl-5-substituted-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazoles and 5-(4-substituted)diazenyl)-2-(2-(1-(5-methyl-1-phenyl-1 H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)-4-arylthiazoles, respectively. Analogously, the reactions of hydrazonoyl halides with 7-(5-methyl-1-phenyl-1 H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)-5-phenyl-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydropyrido[2,3- d]pyrimidin-4(1 H)-one gave 3-(4-substituted)-8-(5-methyl-1-phenyl-1 H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)-6-phenyl-1-arylpyrido[2,3- d]-[1,2,4]-triazolo-[4,3- a]pyrimidin- 5(1 H)-ones in a good yield. The structures of the newly synthesized were elucidated via elemental analysis, spectral data and alternative synthesis routes whenever possible. Twelve of the newly synthesized compounds have been evaluated for their antitumor activity against human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) and human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cell lines. Their structure activity relationships (SAR) were also studied. The 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivative 9b (IC 50 = 2.94 μM) has promising antitumor activity against the human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line and the thiazole derivative 12a has promising inhibitory activity against both the human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line and the breast carcinoma cell line (IC 50 = 1.19, and 3.4 μM, respectively).

Abstract: La cause palestinienne chez les poètes arabes israéliens. Le présent article s’évertue à montrer les mouvements marquant l'évolution de la poésie arabe en Isra l, dans un contexte contradictoire. Il souligne trois tendances principales. La première, explicitement militante, développée dans le giron de la Rakah, parti communiste israélien. Destinée à un public particulier et animée par une idéologie de combat, elle sacrifie parfois la poétique au profit de la politique. La deuxième tendance semble d'une nouvelle esthétique poétique basée sur l'individualité et l'expérience personnelle. La troisième voix poétique, profondément intimiste, est représentée par la poétesse Nida Khoury. Son approche de la résistance et du militantisme, ainsi que son approche originale de la langue révèle la profondeur d'une déchirure personnelle et la finesse d'un engagement subtilement exprimé.Enfin, le tiraillement intérieur entre deux appartenances et la recherche identitaire constituent l'un des principaux thèmes qui unissent les poètes de ces trois tendances. The present article focuses on showing the movements marking the evolution of Arabic poetry in Israel in a conflicting context. It points out three main tendencies. The first one, explicitly militant, developed in the lap of the Israeli communist party Rakah. Intended for a general public and animated by an ideology of fight, it sometimes sacrifices the poetics for the benefit of politics. The second tendency looks for a new poetic aesthetics based on individuality and personal experience. The third poetic voice, profoundly intimist, is represented by the poet Nida 'Khoury. Its approach of the resistance and the militancy as well as its original approach of the language reveal the depth of a personal tearing and the finesse of a subtly expressed commitment.Finally, the interior tugging between two belongings and the identical seeking constitute one of the main themes which unite the poets of these three tendencies. . : , , . . , , , . .
