Genetic diversity among Puntius sophore complex using restriction fragment length polymorphism

Abstract: Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of genomic DNA was employed to characterize species of Puntius sophore complex, a benthopelagic freshwater fish species. Samples of five species of Puntius viz, Puntius sophore, Puntius amphibius, Puntius chola, Puntius bimaculatus and Puntius dorsalis from the East-flowing Tamiraparani and Kuzhithurai and West-flowing Tamiraparani river basins (Western Ghats) were analyzed. The restriction enzyme employed (Hind III) generated species-specific DNA patterns for each of the five species. DNA exhibited considerable polymorphism among species. All samples showed relatively high values of diversity. The relation between species is discussed.

Abstract: The Hanbury Brown-Twiss experiment has proved to be an effective means of probing statistics of particles. Here, in a set-up involving edge-state quasiparticles in a fractional quantum Hall system, we show that a variant of the experiment composed of two sources and two sinks can be used to unearth fractional statistics. We find a clear cut signature of the statistics in the equal-time current-current correlation function for quasiparticle currents emerging from the two sources and collected at the sinks.

Abstract: This paper proposes modifications to the tradional Ceiling Bounce Model and uses it to characterize diffuse indoor optical wireless channel by analyzing the effect of transceiver position on signal propagation properties. The modified approach uses a combination of the tradional ceiling bounce method and a statistical approach. The effects of different transmitter-receiver separations and height of the ceiling on path loss and delay spread are studied in detail.

Abstract: The main objective of this research paper is to prove the effectiveness of high dimensional data analysis and different algorithm in the prediction process of Data mining. The approach made for this survey includes , an extensive literature search on published papers as well as text books in the application of Data mining in prediction. Many data tables were searched for this purpose and research was conducted during JAN 2009 -2012 and I have retrieved many published articles on the usage of Data mining algorithm in prediction. I have retrieved those articles by searching the data bases with the usage of the keywords “data mining and algorithm”. Titles of the articles were analyzed by usage of association rules that analyze the most frequently used words. The main algorithm which were includes in this survey are decision tree, k-means algorithm ,and association rules. I have Studied each algorithm with the help of high dimensional data set with UCI repository and find the advantages and disadvantages of each and made a comparative result for this.

Abstract: Data mining, as we use the term, is the exploration and analysis of large quantities of data in order to discover meaningful patterns and rules. For the purposes of this book, we assume that the goal of data mining is to allow a corporation to improve its marketing, sales, and customer support operations through a better understanding of its customers. Keep in mind, however, that the data mining techniques and tools described here are equally applicable in fields ranging from law enforcement to radio astronomy, medicine, and industrial process control. In fact, hardly any of the data mining algorithms were first invented with commercial applications in mind. The commercial data miner employs a grab bag of techniques borrowed from statistics, computer science, and machine learning research. The choice of a particular combination of techniques to apply in a particular situation depends on the nature of the data mining task, the nature of the available data, and the skills and preferences of the data miner. Data mining is largely concerned with building models. A model is simply an algorithm or set of rules that connects a collection of inputs (often in the form of fields in a corporate database) to a particular target or outcome
Detection of Stationary Foreground Objects in Region of Interest from Traffic Video Sequences

Abstract: Detecting stationary objects such as an Abandoned object or a Parked vehicle is very critical and has extensive series of applications. This paper presents a new method for detecting stationary objects in video sequences of traffic taken from a static camera. It uses Running average to model the background image at every pixel position. The background obtained is then used to detect the stationary foreground object in the video. Stationary foreground object can then be classified as illegally parked vehicle or an abandoned object based on the amount of time it has been stationary. The system has been evaluated using public datasets and has been robust to high noise levels. Potential applications include Urban Traffic Surveillance and Incident detection on roads.
The Mysterious bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud: What is it?

Abstract: The bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is one of the prominent, but controversial feature regarding its location with respect to the disk of the LMC. In order to study the relative location of the bar with respect to the disk, we present the high resolution map of the structure across the LMC. We used the reddening corrected mean magnitudes ($I_0$) of red clump (RC) stars from the OGLE III catalogue to map the relative variation in distance (vertical structure) or variation in RC population across the LMC. The bar does not appear as an identifiable vertical feature in the map, as there is no difference in $I_0$ values between the bar and the disk regions. We conclude that the LMC bar is very much part of the disk, located in the plane of the disk (within 0.02 mag) and it is not a separate component. We identify warps or variation in RC population with increase in radial distance. %The structure map also suggests a %warp or a different RC population in the eastern part of the LMC disk.

Abstract: We investigate the static and dynamic properties of bosonic lattice systems in which condensed and Mott insulating phases co-exist due to the presence of a spatially-varying potential. We formulate a description of these inhomogeneous systems and calculate the bulk energy at and near equilibrium. We derive the explicit form of the Josephson coupling between disjoint superfluid regions separated by Mott insulating regions. We obtain detailed estimates for the experimentally-realized case of alternating superfluid and Mott insulating spherical shells in a radially symmetric parabolically-confined cold atom system.
