Abstract: Grammar lessons can be dull especially when the lessons are conducted in a one-way interaction where pupils are required only to listen and absorb the information conveyed by the teacher. This lacklustre teaching practice should be changed. This research was intended to create a new way of teaching and learning grammar which is a transition from boring drilling towards exciting grammar lesson. Employing Action Research design, this research aimed to test a new method of teaching and learning grammar which is using Grasia (Grammar through Tarsia) in English language grammar lesson. The respondents of the research were from primary and secondary school pupils. 19 pupils from two primary schools in Daro and Lubok Antu, as well as, 21 pupils from a secondary school in Baram district were chosen as participants through convenient sampling method. The data of this research were obtained through teacher observation questionnaire and self-assessment survey which were carried out before and after Grasia was implemented in grammar lesson. The findings indicated a positive outcome among the participants after teaching and learning session through Grasia. This finding is fundamental to give an insight to all the teachers that a change is needed in order to carry out a fun and meaningful grammar lesson. Grasia provides alternative methods for teachers to introduce grammar items in a fun and engaging way rather than chalk and talk lesson.
Earning Quality in Public Listed Companies: A Study on Malaysia Exchange for Securities Dealing and Automated Quotation

International Journal of Economics and Finance , 2011, DOI: 10.5539/ijef.v3n2p233
Abstract: This study attempted to find out whether the size of audit firm, internal audit establishment and former senior auditor as company director have any significant effect on earning management. All data were extracted from the annual reports. The sample firms used in this study were all the companies listed on Bursa Malaysia under Malaysia Exchange for Securities Dealing and Automated Quotation (MESDAQ) technological sector in 2006. There were 128 MESDAQ Companies listed in 2006. However due to unavailability of reports, 113 were used for analysis. Earning Management can be viewed from financial reporting perspective. From a financial reporting perspective, managers may use earning management to meet analysts’ earning forecast, thereby avoiding the strong negative share price reaction that quickly follow a failure to meet investor expectations. Too much earning management, however, reduces the earning quality and the ability investor to interpret current net income as well, particularly if the earning management is buried in core earning or otherwise not fully disclosed. The reported net income is useful to investor in evaluating future firm performance but excessive earning management may reduce this usefulness. Thus this study is very important because from the research findings shows that the size of audit firm, internal audit establishment and former senior auditor as company director have no significant effect on earning management. An understanding of the earning management is also important to accountants because it enables an improved understanding of the usefulness of the net income, especially for reporting to investor. It also may assist them to avoid some of the serious legal and reputation consequences that arise when firms become financially distress where such distress is often preceded by serious abuse of earnings management.
Going Global: The Role and Effect of Leadership Styles in PT Bunga Mawar Indonesia

IBIMA Business Review , 2011,
Abstract: It is widely acknowledged that among all determinants of employment outcomes, leadership is viewed as an important predictor with a central role (Carli, 1990). It has been long held within the humanistic management perspective that different types of leadership style eventually are leading towards different outcomes. In this era of globalization, the role of leadership in determining the internalization pathways for the company is even more crucial. Due to many environment changes, companies decide to inject a new perspective into their management styles. The issue of globalization for example, has lead many companies to divert their focus to the issues of sustainability. This paradigm shift requires management to solicit the subordinates’ inputs in decision making and/or allow them to ensure that the management receive a warm support from the employees which is embarking to the sustainability journey, it actually begin from the internal groups. Thus, this paper discusses the leadership style of senior manager in medical wastes business in Indonesia. By using the qualitative approach with case study method, there were 13 semi-structured interviews with 35 questions based on the topic used to investigate the role of leader’s leadership styles. Later, all data was transcribed and coded systematically. Based on the results of the interviews, the case analysis is presented, thus at the end, this paper will conclude by recommendations for management of PT Bunga Mawar.

Polymers , 2013, DOI: 10.3390/polym5031056
Abstract: Poly(ethyl hydrazide) grafted oil palm empty fruit bunch (peh-g-opefb) fiber has been successfully prepared by heating poly(methylacrylate)-g-opefb at 60 °C for 4 h in a solution of hydrazine hydrate in ethanol. The chelating ability of peh-g-opefb was evaluated based on removal of Ni(II) ions in aqueous solution. Adsorption of Ni(II) by peh-g-opefb was characterized based on effect of pH, isotherm, kinetic and thermodynamic study. This cheap sorbent based on oil palm empty fruit bunch fiber has a great future potential in water treatment industries based on high adsorption capacity, biodegradability and renewability.
Preparation and Characterization of Poly(ethyl hydrazide)-Grafted Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Fibre for the Removal of Cu(II) Ions from an Aqueous Environment

Molecules , 2013, DOI: 10.3390/molecules18078461
Abstract: Poly(ethyl hydrazide)-grafted oil palm empty fruit bunch fibre (peh-g-opefb) was successfully prepared by heating poly(methyl acrylate)-grafted opefb (pma-g-opefb) at 60 °C for 4 h with a solution of hydrazine hydrate (15% v/v) in ethanol. The Fourier transform infrared spectrum of the product shows a secondary amine peak at 3267 cm ?1, with amide carbonyl peaks at 1729 cm ?1 and 1643 cm ?1. The chelating ability of peh-g-opefb was tested with copper ion in aqueous solution. A batch adsorption study revealed that maximum adsorption of copper ion was achieved at pH 5. An isotherm study showed the adsorption follows a Langmuir model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 43.48 mg g ?1 at 25 °C. A kinetic study showed that the adsorption of copper ion rapidly reaches equilibrium and follows a pseudo–second-order kinetic model, with a constant rate of 7.02 × 10 ?4 g mg ?1 min ?1 at 25 °C. The Gibbs free energy, ?G?, value is negative, indicating a spontaneous sorption process. Entropy, ?S?, gives a positive value, indicating that the system is becoming increasingly disordered after the adsorption of copper ion. A positive enthalpy value, ?H?, shows that the endothermic process takes place during the adsorption and is more favourable at high temperatures.

Applied Nanoscience , 2012, DOI: 10.1007/s13204-011-0040-1
Abstract: The [O] [H] functionalization of carbon nanotube (CNT) was studied using oxygen–hydrogen (O2–H2) gas mixture direct current (DC) glow discharge plasma technique for cathode/CNT-anode separation of 0.10 ± 0.01 cm. O2 and H2 were fixed at flowrate of 10.0 ml/min in order to obtain gas mixture ratio of 1:1. During the (O2–H2) gas mixture DC glow discharge, current–voltage (I–V) characteristic of gaseous species studied for various settings of gas pressures 1, 2, 3 and 4 mbar. The voltage at gap between cathode/CNT and anode, a breakdown voltage, was identified as “functionalization voltage” (V func). V func was noticed responsible for functionalization of functional groups on sidewall of CNT. The V func were recorded as 796, 707, 594, and 663 V for gas pressures of 1, 2, 3 and 4 mbar, respectively. The co-relation between V func and gas pressure was identified as linear relationship. But a voltage obtained due to the CNT/Cathode fall shows exponential relationship with the gas pressures. The possibility of [O] [H] functionalization was proved using Fourier transmission infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy. Hydroxyl (–OH), carboxyl (–COOH), and carbonyl (–C=O) functional groups were identical as identified in the FTIR spectra. The field emission scanning electron microscope images show significant changes in the morphology of CNT which proves that the DC gas discharge plasma is a possible technique for [O] [H] functionalization on the sidewall of CNT.

Abstract: An adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system was used for classifying water quality status of river. It applied several physical and inorganic chemical indicators including dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand, and ammonia-nitrogen. A data set (nine weeks, total 845 observations) was collected from 100 monitoring stations in all major river basins in China and used for training and validating the model. Up to 89.59% of the data could be correctly classified using this model. Such performance was more competitive when compared with artificial neural networks. It is applicable in evaluation and classification of water quality status.

Global Journal of Health Science , 2010, DOI: 10.5539/gjhs.v2n2104
Abstract: Early adulthood is the transitional period between adolescence and adult life. As with other general young adult population, university students carry along several of life’s issues such as a personal and social adjustment, academic and career concerns, stress and other related psychosomatic issues which may lead to an unhealthy mental condition. These “life baggage” and stress must be managed well in order to prevent them from interfering with normal adult development and growth processes. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between several selected demographic characteristics and the mental health status of young adults studying in public Malaysian universities. A total of 1467 respondents were recruited using a multistage cluster sampling. General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) (Goldberg, 1978) was the research tool utilised to assess the undergraduates’ mental health status. Findings indicate that a majority of undergraduates exhibit a healthy mental state while a minority has some mental health concerns. One-way ANOVA tests showed that the mental health of undergraduates in this study differed in terms of ethnicity, year of study and academic field. In conclusion, these findings can assist student development personnel and academicians in enhancing their understanding of the current mental health status of undergraduate students and the demographic factors that relate to it.
