International Online Journal of Educational Sciences , 2013,
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to the compare the reading comprehension, reading rate and readingerror performances of students with mental retardation attending inclusive education and specialeducation classes. The students were chosen from 15 elementary schools in Corum. The study groupconsisted of 5th and 8th grade inclusive education and special education students. A total of 55students participated in the study. In order to collect study data; sample stories, readingcomprehension measurement tools and recording charts were developed. For the data analysis, aMann-Whitney U test was used as a nonparametric statistical testing. Study results showed thatthere was no statistical difference among reading rate, reading error and reading comprehensionscores of the 5th grade students attending inclusive education and special education classrooms. However, there was a statistical difference on the scores of reading errors in a minute and whole textand on the inferential comprehension of the students attending 8th grade inclusive educationclassrooms. In contrast to these findings, there was no statistical difference between the literalcomprehension and reading rate scores of the students. The results of the study were discussed andthe suggestions for practice were provided.
Diode laser epilation of urethral hair follicles following urethroplasty
Mehmet Kalkan
Turkish Journal of Urology , 2012,
Abstract: The patient, a 35-year-old male, presented at our clinic complaining of occasional difficulty in urination and the blurry urination. The patient’s history included eleven cases of internal urethrotomy, urethral catheter insertion, urethral dilatation, and lastly two urethroplasty procedures eighteen years prior to presentation at our clinic. Several hair follicles in the bulbous urethra and calculi causing partial obstruction were observed with urethrocystoscopy. Pneumatic lithotripsy, stone extraction and diode laser epilation were carried out to remove hair follicles. Urethral stricture, calculi, and hair follicles were not seen in urethrocystoscopy after three months.

Abstract: The distinctive nature of shipping is that it is carried out in an international environment involving multidisciplinary knowledge. This unique characteristic is valid at both the land-based side of shipping management issues and the navigational side involving deck operations as well as engineering operations. In both sides of shipping the basic performance indicators are closely related with the extent of international and multidisciplinary competencies. Such a distinctive nature is also to be considered in maritime education and training activities. In other words, the environment provided for such activities is to comply with the requirements of the distinctive nature of shipping. Individual learning styles and strategies is thought to be one of the requirements in question. The purpose of this study is to discuss the impacts of individual learning styles and strategies on maritime education and training. To do this, the individual learning styles questionnaire prepared by Richard M. Felder and Barbara A. Soloman is utilized (http://www4.ncsu.edu/unity/lockers/users/f/felder/public/ILSdir/styles.html) the Turkish version of this questionnaire has been conducted through both the students and the instructors of a maritime education institution. The detailed findings gained through this conduction are discussed and shared throughout the sections of this study supplemented by a thorough literature review.
Time Dependent Wave Packet Study of the H-+ H2 Nonreactive Scattering  [PDF]
Sinan Akpinar, Seda Surucu
Journal of Quantum Information Science (JQIS) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jqis.2011.12013
Abstract: Time dependent wave packet calculations have been performed for the H-+ H2nonreactive scattering, summed of elastic and inelastic probabilities, on the recent reported potential energy surface of the systems. The total probabilities for total angular momentum J up to 35 have been calculated to get the converged integral cross sections over collision energy range of 0.20 - 1.42 eV. Integral cross-sections and rate constants have been calculated from the wave packet transition probabilities for the initial states (υ = 0, j = 0) by means of J-shifting method and uniform J-shifting method for J > 0.
A Novel Hybrid Approach to Estimate Customer Interruption Costs for Industry Sectors  [PDF]

Engineering (ENG) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2013.510A006

The power system infrastructure, operations and market have gone through radical changes for the last couple of decades. The society has become more dependent to the continuous electric power supply and hence the concept of electric power reliability has become more significant. At this point, understanding the economic outcomes of power outages is vital and imperative for both utilities and the customers. There are certain methodologies to understand the costs of power interruptions. This paper suggests a novel hybrid method that comprises of customer surveys and direct analytical methods to reach customer specific, objective and reliable results for the industry sector customers. The paper also brings a statistical approach to censor the zero and extreme responses given via the surveys.

Journal of Environmental Protection (JEP) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jep.2010.11006
Abstract: This study deals with the climatic parameters and the climatic differences in Elazig and its close regions (cities of Malatya, Tunceli, Bingöl, Erzincan). Data on mean monthly temperature, daily maximum-minimum temperature, rela-tive humidity, pressure, wind speed, rainfall, solar radiation and sunshine duration were analyzed and modeled for 10-year period, from 1994 to 2003. Malatya city was the hottest area whole period, while the Erzincan city was the coldest area. Maximum temperatures were at highest values in Tunceli. Minimum temperatures reached the warmest values in the Malatya. Erzincan city was the most humid area almost throughout the period while Malatya was the least humid area. Wind speed reached the highest values in the Elazig and the lowest values in the Tunceli. Pressure reached the highest values in the Malatya and the lowest values in the Erzincan. Direct solar radiation reached the highest val-ues in the Tunceli and the lowest values in the Erzincan. Sunshine duration reached the highest values in the Malatya and the lowest values in the Erzincan. A regression analysis was carried out by using the linear regression technique to model the climatic parameters. The models developed can be used in any study related to climatic and its effect on the environment and energy. The models developed in this study can be used for future predictions of the climatic parame-ters and analysing the environmental and energy related issues in Elazig and its close regions (cities of Malatya, Tun-celi, Bingöl, Erzincan).
In vitro inhibition of the paraoxonase from human serum with sulfonamide
S Sinan
African Journal of Biotechnology , 2008,
Abstract: This study was conducted to determine the in vitro effects of sulfonamide on human serum paraoxonase (PON1) activity. The enzyme was purified by two-step using ammonium sulfate precipitation and sepharose-4B-L-tyrosine-1-napthylamine hydrophobic interaction chromatography. Sulfonamide was an effective inhibitor on purified human serum PON1 activity for phenylacetate and paraoxon as substrates with IC50 values of 0.22 and 0.81 mM, respectively. The kinetics of interaction of sulfonamide with the purified enzyme indicated a different inhibition pattern for two substrates. Sulfonamide showed a non-competitive inhibition with Ki of 0.0037 ± 0.0009 mM for phenylacetate and competitive inhibition with Ki of 0.0057 ± 0.0002 mM for paraoxon.

Initial evaluation of surgical neonate: How to handle?
Sinan Celayir
Turk Pediatri Ar?ivi , 2010,
Abstract: It is important to evaluate the status of cardiorespiratory system, termoregulation of the neonate, electrolyte and acid–base balance, fluid requirements and surgical strategy against infection and sepsis. Pediatric surgeons and neonatologists has to be in a team work to get rid of the preoperative and postoperative problems of surgical newborns. Close relation and coordination is between these two branches is extremely necessary. (Turk Arch Ped 2010; 45 Suppl: 9-11)
