Abstract: In Bozda lar Mountain of western Turkey, the diversity and composition of the dung-inhabiting beetles in two locations situated in different altitudes (600 m and 900 m) in 2004 and 2006 assemblages were sampled. A total of 5.709 individuals from 88 species belonging to the families Scarabaeidae, Aphodiidae, Geotrupidae, Carabidae, Hydrophilidae, Histeridae and Ptilidae of the order Coleoptera are recorded.
Time Dependent Wave Packet Study of the H-+ H2 Nonreactive Scattering  [PDF]
Sinan Akpinar, Seda Surucu
Journal of Quantum Information Science (JQIS) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jqis.2011.12013
Abstract: Time dependent wave packet calculations have been performed for the H-+ H2nonreactive scattering, summed of elastic and inelastic probabilities, on the recent reported potential energy surface of the systems. The total probabilities for total angular momentum J up to 35 have been calculated to get the converged integral cross sections over collision energy range of 0.20 - 1.42 eV. Integral cross-sections and rate constants have been calculated from the wave packet transition probabilities for the initial states (υ = 0, j = 0) by means of J-shifting method and uniform J-shifting method for J > 0.
A Novel Hybrid Approach to Estimate Customer Interruption Costs for Industry Sectors  [PDF]
Sinan Kufeoglu, Matti Lehtonen
Engineering (ENG) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2013.510A006
Abstract:

The power system infrastructure, operations and market have gone through radical changes for the last couple of decades. The society has become more dependent to the continuous electric power supply and hence the concept of electric power reliability has become more significant. At this point, understanding the economic outcomes of power outages is vital and imperative for both utilities and the customers. There are certain methodologies to understand the costs of power interruptions. This paper suggests a novel hybrid method that comprises of customer surveys and direct analytical methods to reach customer specific, objective and reliable results for the industry sector customers. The paper also brings a statistical approach to censor the zero and extreme responses given via the surveys.

Journal of Environmental Protection (JEP) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jep.2010.11006
Abstract: This study deals with the climatic parameters and the climatic differences in Elazig and its close regions (cities of Malatya, Tunceli, Bingöl, Erzincan). Data on mean monthly temperature, daily maximum-minimum temperature, rela-tive humidity, pressure, wind speed, rainfall, solar radiation and sunshine duration were analyzed and modeled for 10-year period, from 1994 to 2003. Malatya city was the hottest area whole period, while the Erzincan city was the coldest area. Maximum temperatures were at highest values in Tunceli. Minimum temperatures reached the warmest values in the Malatya. Erzincan city was the most humid area almost throughout the period while Malatya was the least humid area. Wind speed reached the highest values in the Elazig and the lowest values in the Tunceli. Pressure reached the highest values in the Malatya and the lowest values in the Erzincan. Direct solar radiation reached the highest val-ues in the Tunceli and the lowest values in the Erzincan. Sunshine duration reached the highest values in the Malatya and the lowest values in the Erzincan. A regression analysis was carried out by using the linear regression technique to model the climatic parameters. The models developed can be used in any study related to climatic and its effect on the environment and energy. The models developed in this study can be used for future predictions of the climatic parame-ters and analysing the environmental and energy related issues in Elazig and its close regions (cities of Malatya, Tun-celi, Bingöl, Erzincan).
In vitro inhibition of the paraoxonase from human serum with sulfonamide
S Sinan
African Journal of Biotechnology , 2008,
Abstract: This study was conducted to determine the in vitro effects of sulfonamide on human serum paraoxonase (PON1) activity. The enzyme was purified by two-step using ammonium sulfate precipitation and sepharose-4B-L-tyrosine-1-napthylamine hydrophobic interaction chromatography. Sulfonamide was an effective inhibitor on purified human serum PON1 activity for phenylacetate and paraoxon as substrates with IC50 values of 0.22 and 0.81 mM, respectively. The kinetics of interaction of sulfonamide with the purified enzyme indicated a different inhibition pattern for two substrates. Sulfonamide showed a non-competitive inhibition with Ki of 0.0037 ± 0.0009 mM for phenylacetate and competitive inhibition with Ki of 0.0057 ± 0.0002 mM for paraoxon.
Initial evaluation of surgical neonate: How to handle?
Sinan Celayir
Turk Pediatri Ar?ivi , 2010,
Abstract: It is important to evaluate the status of cardiorespiratory system, termoregulation of the neonate, electrolyte and acid–base balance, fluid requirements and surgical strategy against infection and sepsis. Pediatric surgeons and neonatologists has to be in a team work to get rid of the preoperative and postoperative problems of surgical newborns. Close relation and coordination is between these two branches is extremely necessary. (Turk Arch Ped 2010; 45 Suppl: 9-11)
Differences in Prospective Science Teachers’ Descriptions of the Same Concepts Used in Chemistry and Biology Classes

Necatibey Faculty of Education, Electronic Journal of Science and Mathematics Education , 2009,
Abstract: The study examines biology, chemistry and pre-service science teachers’ ideas about the same concepts used in different courses such as biology and chemistry. Firstly, a pilot study was conducted to reveal what kind of different ideas constructed by the students. Then, a questionnaire consisted of five open-ended questions was prepared and administered to 152 students. Additionally, semi-constructed interviews were made with nine students to get more detailed information about the conceptions. As a result, it was revealed that students constructed different meanings from the same concepts such as radical group, diffusion, osmotic pressure, amphoteric substance, acid and base used in biology and chemistry classes. In the last section of the study, why students constructed different meanings from the same concepts used in different courses were analysed and recommendations were noted to overcome those complications.
Prospective Science Teachers Conceptual Level of Understanding on Enzymes
Olcay Sinan
Necatibey Faculty of Education, Electronic Journal of Science and Mathematics Education , 2007,
Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine conceptual understanding level of prospective science teachers on enzymes before, after and six month later traditional instruction. A conceptual understanding test consisted of three open ended questions was prepared and administered as pre-, post- and delayed post test to 88 prospective teachers. Then, in order to reveal opinions of the students in more details, semi-structured interviews were conducted to 19 teacher candidates. At the end of the study, it was reached that prospective science teachers have certain sorts of difficulties in understanding enzymes, and that traditional instruction is insufficient on providing conceptual understanding. It was revealed that candidates have misconceptions particularly on enzyme activity mechanism and other specifics of enzymes. In the light of the findings, it was suggested that activities based on constructivist approach and conceptual change model should be used for assembling of teaching environment.

Y?netim ve Ekonomi , 2009,
Abstract: The guerrilla marketing concept, which was created by Jay Conrad Levinson in 1984, implies an unconventional way of performing promotional activities on a very low budget. In recent years, many companies looking for ways of getting out of clutter of traditional marketing implementations tend to apply guerrilla marketing which is a different way of marketing communication. Companies try to reach private worlds of consumers and give them memorable experience with their brands by guerrilla marketing strategies.
