The Effects of Dietary Vitamin E on the Oxidative Stress and Antioxidant Enzyme Activities in Their Tissues and Ovarian Egg Numbers of Freshwater Crayfish Astacus leptodactylus (Eschscholtz, 1823)

Abstract: The effects of dietary vitamin E on the oxidative stress (lipid peroxidation (as Malondialdehyde (MDA)) and antioxidant enzyme activities (as Glutathione Peroxidase (GSH-Px)) of hepatopancreas, ovarian and muscle tissues and the ovarian egg numbers and size of freshwater crayfish Astacus leptodactylus was investigated. Crayfish were fed daily 2% of their total wet weight with vitamin E supplemented diets and a control for 72 days. The vitamin E contents of the control diet, diet 1-3 were 65.83, 100, 150 and 200 mg kg-1, respectively. Results showed that diet 2 containing 150 mg kg-1 supplemental vitamin E was associated with a significant increase (p<0.001) in the number of ovarian eggs (48.68%) of crayfish. In addition, the females fed with diet 2 and diet 3 produced significantly bigger ovarian eggs (10.93 and 5.47%) (p<0.001). It was determined that MDA activity decreased significantly in the hepatopancreas, ovarian and muscles of the crayfish fed with vitamin E supplemented diets. While GSH-Px activity was significantly elevated in the hepatopancreas and muscle by vitamin E, its activity decreased in the ovarian.

Abstract: With the introduction of new technologies, computer and internet use have become an unavoidable necessity in our daily lives. Internet was originally designed to facilitate communication and research. However the dramatic increase in use of internet in recent years has led to its pathologic use. Turkey, as a developing country with an increasing rate of internet access and computer use is at high risk for this disorder. In our country, this disorder is especially seen in young people who are more skilled in internet and computer use. And because their excessive internet use has led to negative consequences in their academic, social and family lives, patients and their families began search of treatment for this disorder. So clinicians must be aware of this newly emerging disorder and they should be able to apply the appropriate therapeutic interventions. This paper aims to summarize the pharmacological and cognitive-behavioral treatment of internet addiction.
Productive Infection of Human Skeletal Muscle Cells by Pandemic and Seasonal Influenza A(H1N1) Viruses

Abstract: Besides the classical respiratory and systemic symptoms, unusual complications of influenza A infection in humans involve the skeletal muscles. Numerous cases of acute myopathy and/or rhabdomyolysis have been reported, particularly following the outbreak of pandemic influenza A(H1N1) in 2009. The pathogenesis of these influenza-associated myopathies (IAM) remains unkown, although the direct infection of muscle cells is suspected. Here, we studied the susceptibility of cultured human primary muscle cells to a 2009 pandemic and a 2008 seasonal influenza A(H1N1) isolate. Using cells from different donors, we found that differentiated muscle cells (i. e. myotubes) were highly susceptible to infection by both influenza A(H1N1) isolates, whereas undifferentiated cells (i. e. myoblasts) were partially resistant. The receptors for influenza viruses, α2-6 and α2-3 linked sialic acids, were detected on the surface of myotubes and myoblasts. Time line of viral nucleoprotein (NP) expression and nuclear export showed that the first steps of the viral replication cycle could take place in muscle cells. Infected myotubes and myoblasts exhibited budding virions and nuclear inclusions as observed by transmission electron microscopy and correlative light and electron microscopy. Myotubes, but not myoblasts, yielded infectious virus progeny that could further infect naive muscle cells after proteolytic treatment. Infection led to a cytopathic effect with the lysis of muscle cells, as characterized by the release of lactate dehydrogenase. The secretion of proinflammatory cytokines by muscle cells was not affected following infection. Our results are compatible with the hypothesis of a direct muscle infection causing rhabdomyolysis in IAM patients.

Abstract: Recurrent aphthous ulcer (RAU) is one of the most common oral mucosal diseases and it affects approximately %25 of the society. It is characterized with recurrent painful, round-shaped ulcers surrounded with erythemathosus halo. Local and systemic conditions together with genetic, immunologic and microbiological factors were shown to be possible etiological factors but there is no consensus for its etiology. Although several immunomodulators, topical and systemic steroid drugs, topical analgesics and antibiotics have shown to be effective for the treatment of RAU, it is not possible to eliminate the recurrence. In this article; etiology, clinical appearance, differential diagnosis and treatment methods are reviewed. Adaptive multichannel sequential lattice prediction filtering method for ARMA spectrum estimation in subbands

Abstract: A multichannel characterization for autoregressive moving average (ARMA) spectrum estimation in subbands is considered in this article. The fullband ARMA spectrum estimation can be realized in two-channels as a special form of this characterization. A complete orthogonalization of input multichannel data is accomplished using a modified form of sequential processing multichannel lattice stages. Matrix operations are avoided, only scalar operations are used, and a multichannel ARMA prediction filter with a highly modular and suitable structure for VLSI implementations is achieved. Lattice reflection coefficients for autoregressive (AR) and moving average (MA) parts are simultaneously computed. These coefficients are then converted to process parameters using a newly developed Levinson--Durbin type multichannel conversion algorithm. Hence, a novel method for spectrum estimation in subbands as well as in fullband is developed. The computational complexity is given in terms of model order parameters, and comparisons with the complexities of nonparametric methods are provided. In addition, the performance is visually and statistically compared against those of the nonparametric methods under both stationary and nonstationary conditions.

Abstract: There are various ethical approaches in the history of philosophy. Beauchamp and Childress introduced four basic principles which were acceptable in all communities: beneficence, non-maleficence, respect for autonomy and justice. Yusuf Khass Hajib is the first author of the Islamic Turkish Literature whose work was found out. This study aims to reveal the existence of four principles of bioethics in this work, in Kutadgu Bilig, presented to the prince of Karakhanids, Tavgach Bugra Khan, by Yusuf Khass Hajib in 1069-1070. It was found out in this study that all these principles were included in Kutadgu Bilig in different forms. The principles that Beauchamp and Childress argued to be acceptable in all communities and all cultures have already existed in different communities in different ages. Yusuf Khass Hajib work, Kutadgu Bilig, constitutes a good example of this reality.
Determinations of Total Factor Productivity with Cobb-Douglas Production Function in Agriculture: The Case of Aydin-Turkey

Abstract: Measurement of productivity and the choice of criteria in the process of measurement is quite essential in productivity analysis. The purpose of this study is to determine the total factor productivity of crop producing farms in the province of Aydin comparatively, in terms of land size using Cobb-Douglas production function. In addition, the input efficiencies and return to scales were computed. The results show that as farm size increases the TFP increases as well. Also, gross production value increases by the increase in labor in small farms, land size in medium farms and variable inputs in large farms.
SOLVENT-FREE SOLID SUPPORTED AND PHASE TRANSFERRED CATALYZED SYNTHESIS OF BENZANILINE DERIVATIVES USING MICROWAVE IRRADIATION

Abstract: In this study, solvent-free and phase transfer catalysis conditions coupled with microwave irradiation and their advantages in synthesis of N-alkylation of primary anilines were reported. In this way two different microwave processing techniques were compared in terms of reaction yields. Consequently, microwave irradiation significantly reduced reaction times compared to traditional heating methods. Particularly synthesis by solvent-free solid supported microwave irradiaton was found more eco-friendly and had higher reaction efficiency against to phase transfer catalysis condition. Organic reactions under solvent-free conditions is advantageous because of enhanced selectivity, efficiency and more importantly, toxic and volatile solvents are avoided. So that this eco-friendly green approach might be applied to the rapid assembly of various alkylation reactions.
