Resistencia antimicrobiana de bacterias causantes de diarreas en ni os de Corrientes, Argentina* Antimicrobial resistance of bacteriae causing diarrhea in children from Corrientes, Argentina
Silvia E. Balbachán,Luis A. Merino,Daniel E. Merino,Mariana Lorena Balbachán
In Corrientes (Argentina), from January 2004 to April 2005, fecal samples from under 5 years-old children with acute diarrhea were collected; the stool samples were cultured onto selective media, and those colonies suspected to be Salmonella, Vibrio, Aeromonas, Shigella, or Escherichia coli O157 were identified. The antimicrobial susceptibility was assessed by the disk diffusion method. Among 590 samples, the 7.7% were positive (Salmonella spp 32.6% and Shigella spp 67.4%). Of 31 Shigella isolates, 81% were S. flexneri, and 19% were S. sonnei. S. flexneri serotype 2 was the more frequent. S. flexneri strains showed higher multidrug resistance than S. sonnei strains. Among the Salmonella enterica serotypes, S. typhimurium and S. newport were the most frequent. Two isolates of Salmonella presented with multidrug resistance. This paper was a contribution to the knowledge of bacterial gastroenteritis etiology in our region and it called the attention to the emergence of multidrug-resistant enteropathogenic strains.

Medicina Oral, Patología Oral y Cirugía Bucal (Internet) , 2006,
Abstract: the cleft lip and palate patient is mainly characterized by the presence of an oronasal communication, malformation or agenesis of the teeth close to the cleft, and deficient sagittal and transverse growth of the maxilla. these patients require various treatments involving a multidisciplinary team, which may include a maxillofacial surgeon, an orthodontist, a speech therapist, a paediatrician, a general dentist, a prosthodontist, an ent specialist, a psychologist and all those professionals who can help provide functional, aesthetic and psychological improvement. this report describes a case of prosthetic rehabilitation in a patient with cleft lip and palate and an oronasal fistula (communication) following surgery. different prosthetic treatments are described, with emphasis being placed on the approach chosen after to discuss the various limitations which arose.
Hepatitis B y C en coinfección con VIH en un banco de sangre en Corrientes
Navarro,Daniel; Villalba Salinas,Vanesa; Salazar,María; Merino,Daniel; Balbachán,Silvia;
Revista Cubana de Medicina , 2008,
Abstract: 41 503 cards of donors or potential donors were examined to know the prevalence of some parenteral transmission agents in the central blood bank of corrientes. it was found that the prevalence of hepatitis b was 0.38 %; hepatitis c, 0.41 %; and hiv, 0.03 %. it was proved that the figures obtained were higher than the reported in the national epidemiological bulletin, which may result from the non-detection of the affected asymptomatic subjects or from an incomplete notification.

Revista Cubana de Medicina Tropical , 2008,
Abstract: background: it is quite complex to determine in practice the prevalence of antibodies to hepatitis b, c and hiv in the general population, given that the relative low presence of antibodies in some countries would demand very large samples. therefore, the seroprevalence studies performed in blood banks like that of corrientes city, contribute to knowing about the symptomatic effect or not of these diseases. data taken from the national surveillance system that appeared in the national epidemiological bulletin reveal that argentina had in 2001 an incidence rate of 2,1 cases of notified hbv cases, 1,3 hcv cases and 2.9 hiv cases per 100 000 pop. respectively. objectives: to determine the prevalence of antibodies to hepatitis b, c viruses and hiv in regular blood donors or potential donors in the central blood bank of corrientes through serological testing. methods: to find out this prevalence, the blood bank of corrientes examined 41 503 records of regular or potential donors. complete serological studies were conducted such as hbsag (elisa), anti-hcv (elisa and hiv(elisa) and vih confirmation using western blot). results: the prevalence of hepatitis b was 0,38 %, hepatitis c was 0,41 % and hiv was 0,03 %. conclusions: these figures were significantly higher than those reported in the national epidemiological bulletin, because although it shows incidence rates, it does not detect asymptomatic sick persons and the notification is still incomplete in argentina.

Abstract: infectious, clinical-surgical and environmental variables were studied in ituzaingó and posadas (argentina) and differences were analyzed from 1994 to 2000, which corresponds to the building of the binational dam yacyretá (argentina-paraguay) and to the resulting reservoir. the chosen infectious variables were diarrhea and respiratory infections and the clinical-surgical variables were cardiovascular diseases and polytraumas. environmental variables were also investigated. taking as a baseline the values corresponding to the year 1994, diarrhea in ituzaingó, increased 6.5% during 1995 and 78.3% in 1996 returned to 1994 values. posadas showed a rising tendency throughout the period investigated. in ituzaingó, respiratory infectious rose 143% in 1995, and later returned to 1994 values. in posadas they increased each year. cardiovascular diseases reached 97.6% in ituzaingó during 1995; lowered slightly in 1996 and reached 127% in the year 2000. the impact of the environmental variables was higher in ituzaingó than posadas. the negative impact of temperature related with the increased frequency of disease in ituzaingó is more related to maximum temperature than with changes in humidity.
Universidad Latinoamericana y liberación nacional: ?Caminos cruzados?
Merino,Carlos;
Educere , 2008,
Abstract: 90 years after the reformist movement at the university of cordoba in 1918, it seems appropriate to make and analysis of its historical approach and of other popular movements that have tried to create changes in the dominant political regimes in our region. however, in my opinion, there is not yet a level of social organization that allows a new social conformation based on social justice. i consider of interest to analyze, under the scope of new theories about social behavior, the effects that these social movement can provoke within the entire social system and their possibilities of falling into the sought social changes. the analysis of concepts as dispelling structures, fluctuations, critical mass, the intrinsically related role of order and disorder, would allow to look for an explanation to the role these movements play within the social system.
