Revista médica de Chile , 1999,
Abstract: Background: Adult T cell leukemia lymphoma is a lymphoproliferative syndrome etiologically associated to human T cell lymphotropic virus type I. Aim: To describe the clinical and laboratory features of 26 Caucasian Chilean patients, with HTLV-I positive adult T-cell leukemia lymphoma (ATLL). Material and methods: Diagnostic criteria included clinical features, cell morphology, immunophenotype, HTLV-I serology and/or DNA analysis by Southern blot or PCR. Results: According to the clinical presentation, 12 cases had the acute ATLL form, 6 had a lymphoma, 4 the chronic form and 4 had smoldering ATLL. The median presentation age was 50 years, younger than the Japanese patients, but significantly older than patients from other South American countries (eg Brasil, Jamaica, Colombia). The main clinical features: lymphadenopathy, skin lesions and hepatosplenomegaly, were similar in frequency to those of patients from other countries, except for the high incidence of associated neurological disease. Tropical Spastic Paraparesis (TSP) in our series of ATLL, was seen in one third of the patients (8/26). A T-cell immunophenotype was shown in all 26 cases and HTLV-I serology was positive in 25/26 patients. Molecular analysis on the seronegative patient showed clonal integration of proviral HTLV-I DNA into the lymphocytes DNA, and thus he may have been a poor responder to the retroviral infection. Proviral DNA integration was also demonstrated in 15/16 patients being clonal in 10, polyclonal in 3 (all smoldering cases) and oligoclonal in one. Conclusions: ATLL in Chile has similar clinical and laboratory features than the disease in other parts of the world, except for a younger age than Japanese patients but older than those from other Latin American countries and a high incidence of patients with associated TSP. Detailed morphological and immunophenotypic analysis of the abnormal circulating lymphocytes, together with the documentation of HTLV-I by serology and/or DNA analysis are key tests for the identification of this disease.

Abstract: the modified atmosphere technique consists on packing food in materials that produce a barrier against the diffusion of gasses, in which the gas environment has been modified in order to lower the respiration grade and the microbial growth, and also delaying the enzymatic development aiming to enlarge the usefulness time of the product. depending on the demands of the food to be packed, an atmosphere with environments rich in co2 and poor in o2 will be required. they reduce the respiration process in the products, keeping their physicalchemical, organoleptic and micro biological characteristics for a longer term.

Collaborative Intelligence in Smart Cities: A Systematic Review  [PDF]

Social Networking (SN) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/sn.2018.73015
Abstract:
The objective of this research is to present a systematic analysis, in which we seek to identify the concepts of intelligent city, with the intention of recognizing the nature of this intelligence before the participation of the population. Therefore, the research associates concepts as smart cities, citizen participation and social web, identifying publications between 2012 and the first quarter of 2018 and questioning what the intelligent city is and how this concept is able to (re)organize the learning processes of the territory from the informal dynamics of the contemporary city. The qualitative analysis of the documents revealed an innumerable of definitions and related terms: smart, intelligent, ubiquitous, digital, knowledge, sustainable, crowd sourcing, innovative; structured in three types of approaches: technological focus, focus on human resources and focus on citizen-related governance from the following domains: media convergence, public and regulatory information policies, infrastructure management, real-time data mining and extraction, geographic information system, crowd computing, smart cities education, and social monitoring and control. In spite of the access to a great amount of data, we verify that the concept of intelligent city is referenced by a significant number of researches, but, in smaller number, works that present models of construction of a collective intelligence for the city. From this perspective, we identified the need to recognize technological education interventions for communication between individuals and the city. Because we believe that only through the implementation and management of techno-educommunication ecosystems will be able to promote a culture of participation.

Abstract: in recent years, nutrition and food sciences have been studying the relationship between health and food consumption, concluding that healthy consumption helps to cure and prevent some chronic diseases. healthy feeding has been based on combining food, nutrients and ingredients added to provide certain healthy conditions, by designing the mixtures for the different physiological situations. probiotic microorganisms, prebiotics (dietary fiber), some vitamins and minerals, plus some anti oxidants, are the mostly used and studied ingredients. based on this, a definition for this kind of products has been studied and developed, calling them "functional food". products made from meat, with ingredients that contribute to health, are becoming more popular every day and offer an alternative for consuming foods that allow people to keep and improve their quality of life.
