Processamento auditivo e potenciais evocados auditivos de tronco cerebral (BERA)

Abstract: purpose: to investigate the correlation of auditory brainstem response (abr) and behavioral auditory processing evaluation. methods: sixty girls, from paraíba do sul, ranging from 9 to 12-year-old were evaluated. in order to take part in the study all of them should have normal hearing thresholds, type a tympanograms and presence of acoustic reflexes. behavioral auditory processing evaluation consisted of: sound localization, memory for verbal and non verbal sounds in sequence, speech in noise test, ssw test and nonverbal dichotic test. after the behavioral testing children were divided into two groups, g1 ( without auditory processing disorders) and g2 (with auditory processing disorders of any degree and categorization) and have undergone the register of auditory brainstem response (abr). the groups were compared using absolute latencies of waves i, iii, v and interpeak latencies i-iii, iii-v, i-v and interaural difference of wave v latency. results: our results indicated statistical significant differences considering interpeak latency in the left ear (p=0.009), in right and left ears considering interpeak latencies for g2 (p=0.02) and in interpeak latencies of waves i and v considering right and left ears between the groups g1 and g2 (p=0.025). conclusion: significant differences were observed comparing behavioral evaluation and abr considering interpeak latency of waves i and v in the left ear and interaural difference i-v in the left ear.

Abstract: OBJETIVO: verificar rela o existente entre os potenciais auditivos de tronco cerebral e a avalia o comportamental do processamento auditivo. MéTODOS: foi realizada em um grupo de 60 meninas residentes de Paraíba do Sul na idade de nove a 12 anos com limiares tonais dentro dos padr es de normalidade e timpanometria tipo A com presen a dos reflexos acústicos. Os testes utilizados para a avalia o comportamental do processamento auditivo foram: avalia o simplificada do processamento auditivo, teste de fala no ruído, teste de dissílabos alternados e teste dicótico n o verbal. Após a avalia o do processamento auditivo, as crian as foram subdivididas em dois grupos, G1 (sem altera o no processamento auditivo) e G2 (com altera o no processamento auditivo) e submetidas aos potenciais auditivos de tronco cerebral. Os parametros utilizados na compara o dos dois grupos foram: latência absoluta das ondas I, III e V; latência interpicos das ondas I-III, I-V, III-V; diferen a interaural da latência interpico I-V; e diferen a interaural da latência da onda V. RESULTADOS: foram encontradas diferen as estatísticas nos parametros de latência interpico das ondas I-V na orelha esquerda (p=0,009), diferen a interaural da latência interpico de ondas I-V (p=0,020) e diferen a da latência interpico de ondas I e V da orelha direita para a esquerda entre os grupos G1 e G2 (p=0,025). CONCLUS O: foi possível encontrar rela o dos potenciais evocados auditivos de tronco cerebral com a avalia o comportamental do processamento auditivo nos parametros de latência interpico entre as ondas I e V da orelha esquerda e diferen a interaural da latência interpico I-V na orelha esquerda. Abstract: background: phonological awareness and the process of learning reading and writing. purpose: to hold a review of the literature about this theme, in order to resume concepts recently published on technical literature and offer for the speech-language pathologist the possibility to review some of their practices and formulate a therapeutic strategy. conclusion: it is possible to observe that the studies point to the important relationship on the development of phonological awareness skills, including the increase of reading and writing. this fact reinforces the need for reviewing our clinical and scientific practice in order to approach the creation and to disseminate some preventive and remediate strategies involving recreational activities which include children awareness manipulation of the sounds of speech. one important area of the speech language research in brazil should converge for the studies and creation on this subject toward the tools in order to help the speech-language pathologist.

Abstract: OBJETIVO: avaliar a ordena o temporal em adultos com perdas auditivas sensorioneurais de graus leve e moderado, por meio do teste Padr o de Dura o, a fim de verificar se essas perdas influenciam no desempenho do teste. MéTODO: foram avaliados 57 pacientes, com idades entre 20 a 59 anos, sendo 30 homens e 27 mulheres. Todos responderam a anamnese, passaram por avalia o otorrinolaringológica, avalia o audiológica básica e triagem do processamento auditivo, com o teste Dicótico de Dígitos. Os participantes foram alocados em 3 grupos: G1 (audi o normal para as médias de 0,5/1/2 KHz e de 3/4/6 KHz), G2 (perda auditiva de grau leve em pelo menos uma das médias) e G3 (perda de grau moderado em pelo menos uma das médias). A compara o foi realizada entre a audi o normal e a presen a da perda auditiva (G2+G3) e entre os três grupos descritos. O índice de normalidade utilizado foi de 70% de acertos. Para a análise estatística foram utilizados os testes n o-paramétricos de Mann-Whitney, ANOVA de Kruskal-Wallis, Análise de Variancia "one-way", t de Student, Qui-quadrado. O critério de determina o de significancia adotado foi o nível de 5%. RESULTADOS: observou-se presen a significante de homens no grupo com perda auditiva. A porcentagem de acertos da amostra geral foi de 62,3% e n o ocorreu diferen a estatisticamente significante entre os grupos. CONCLUS O: a habilidade de ordena o temporal avaliada pelo teste Padr o de Dura o n o sofre influência da perda auditiva sensorioneural de grau leve e moderado. PURPOSE: to evaluate the temporal ordering ability in adults with mild to moderate sensoryneural hearing loss, through the Duration Pattern Test, in order to determine whether these losses affect the performance of the aforesaid test. METHOD: 57 adults from 20 to 59 years of age were evaluated, being 30 male and 27 female. All of them underwent a screening test consisting of medical history, ENT examination, basic audiological testing and hearing process screening with the Dichotic Digit Test. After this process, the participants were allocated into three groups, namely: G1 (normal hearing for the averages of 0.5 / 1 / 2 and 3/4/6 KHz), G2 (mild hearing loss in at least one of the averages) and G3 (moderate loss in at least one of the averages). The results were analyzed through comparison between normal hearing and the presence of hearing loss (G2 + G3) and among the three groups described. The normality index used was 70% of successes. Abstract: introduction: noise-induced hearing loss is one of the most common causes for sensorineural hearing impairment. objective: the purpose of this study was to evaluate pure tone and distortion product otoacoustic emissions (dpoae) pre and post white noise exposition at high levels (100 db spl for 10 minutes), considering gender and ear variables, aiming at investigating pure tone audiometry and dpoae efficiency in detecting subtle temporary threshold shifts (tts). study design: prospectivo clinical randomized. material and method: forty subjects, 20 male and 20 female ranging from 18 to 36 years old with no otological complaints were evaluated. pure tone audiometry and dpoae were carried out pre and post white noise exposure. results: pure tone audiometry was sensitive in detecting temporary threshold shifts after white noise exposition in 2, 3 and 4 khz, with no significant differences concerning gender and ear, whereas dpoae revealed temporary shifts in audibility evidenced by amplitude reduction, in 2588 and 3614 in female subjects and in 932, 1304, 2588 and 5128 hz in male subjects. conclusion: we could conclude that either pure tone audiometry or dpoae were sensitive in determining significant temporary shifts in hearing thresholds and amplitude, respectively, after white noise exposition, according to the involved frequency range

Abstract: purpose: to evaluate the auditory processing in elderly through temporal resolution (duration pattern) test and to check if the presence of hearing loss influences the performance of this test. methods: 65 elderly listeners were evaluated (46 women and 19 men), with ages ranging from 60 and 79 year old. all of them answered an anamnesis and passed through a mini mental state examination and basic audiological evaluation. the participants were placed and studied in a single group and also divided into three groups referred to as g1, g2 and g3. according to the audiometric results we classified the g1 (normal hearing for the averages of 0.5/1/2 khz and 3/4/6 khz), the g2 (normal hearing or mild hearing loss for the average of 0.5/1/2 khz and mild hearing loss for the average of 3/4/6 khz ) and the g3 (normal hearing or mild hearing loss for the average of 0.5/1/2 khz and moderate hearing loss for the average of 3/4/6 khz). the duration pattern test that evaluates the temporal resolution was carried out at 50 dbsl. for analyzing the results we used the non-parametric statistical test of kruskal-wallis and chi - square, considering a significant p < 0.05. results: in the whole sample, the average of percentage concerning correct responses was 63.1%. in the groups, the average percentage of correct responses was 57.5%, 69% and 63.9% to g1, g2 and g3, respectively. conclusion: the presence of hearing loss did not influence the results of the duration pattern test.
O estudo da prova calórica em pacientes idoso

Abstract: purpose: to accomplish the study of caloric testing in senior patients with dizziness, accompanied or not of with buzzing. methods: 143 patients were analyzed with age varying from 60 to 90 years; all of them did an otoneurologic evaluation. senior patients with unbalance complaints and with buzzing unaccompanied with dizziness were excluded from this study. results: 82.3% to 91.2% of the patients obtained normoreflexia in absolute values and over 93% obtained normal results in relative values. referring to the data obtained in the anamnesis, what got attention was 69% of dizziness accompanied with buzzing. and the high medication of the patients in this age group. conclusion: there was a prevalence of dizziness accompanied with buzzing in the studied population. concerning the caloric testing, the study demonstrated the high prevalence of patients with normal absolute and relative values.

Abstract: purpose: to describe the compliance and attitudes of hearing-impaired children towards the treatment and support offered by the hearing health program, a public health endeavor, and assessing patients’ returns for follow-ups. methods: participants consisted of fifty children aged from 0 to 8 years, with a diagnosis of mild to severe sensorineural hearing loss. the children received the hearing aids from the hearing health program, in vila velha, in the state of espírito santo, brazil. the research protocol was completed using both medical records and a socio-economical profile survey of the affected children, including the behavioral adaptation as for hearing aids. results: the requirement of patient return for follow-ups facilitated the attendance of nearly half the population (44%); results indicate that there seems to be an association between compliance with the program and school routine. conclusion: the aforementioned program mostly affects families with a monthly income from one to two minimum wages. hearing loss is diagnosed between the chronological ages of two and three years in this study. the first adaptation with hearing aids at the age of six is quite late. the contact with the parents promoted by the social workers facilitates the proposed evaluation. school attendance also proved to have a positive influence on the evaluation.

Abstract: purpose: to assess the auditory processing of elderly patients using the temporal resolution gaps-in-noise test, and to verify if the presence of hearing loss influences the performance on this test. methods: sixty-five elderly listeners, with ages between 60 and 79 years, were assessed with the gaps-in-noise test. to meet the inclusion criteria, the following procedures were carried out: anamnesis, mini-mental state examination, and basic audiological evaluation. the participants were allocated and studied as a group, and then were divided into three groups, according to audiometric results for the frequencies of 500 hz, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 khz. thus, subjects in g1 had normal hearing, participants in g2 were classified with mild hearing loss, and those in g3 had moderate hearing loss. results: in the entire sample, the mean gap detection threshold and the mean percentage of correct responses were, respectively, 8.1 ms and 52.6% for the right ear, and 8.2 ms and 52.2% for the left ear. in g1, these measures were 7.3 ms and 57.6% for the right ear, and 7.7 ms and 55.8% for the left ear. in g2, these measures were 8.2 ms and 52.5% for the right ear, and 7.9 ms and 53.2% for the left ear. in g3, the measures were 9.2 ms and 45.2% for the right and left ears. conclusion: the presence of hearing loss increased the gap detection thresholds and lowered the percentage of correct responses on the gaps-in-noise test.

Abstract: Introdu o: A perda auditiva induzida por ruído consiste atualmente em uma das maiores causas de perdas auditivas neurossensoriais. Objetivo: O objetivo desse trabalho foi estudar os limiares de audibilidade e as emiss es otoacústicas por produto de distor o, pré e pós-exposi o a níveis elevados de ruído branco (100 dB NPS por 10 minutos), em fun o das variáveis lado da orelha e sexo, buscando informa es para estabelecer a eficácia de ambos para detectar pequenas mudan as temporárias no limiar. Forma de estudo: prospectivo clínico randomizado. Material e método: Foram avaliados quarenta indivíduos otologicamente normais, sendo 20 do sexo masculino e 20 do sexo feminino, com idade variando de 18 a 36 anos. Ambos os testes, audiometria tonal e emiss es otoacústicas por produto de distor o, foram realizadas de forma prévia e posterior à exposi o ao ruído branco. Resultados: Os resultados mostraram que a audiometria tonal liminar é sensível para evidenciar mudan as temporárias nos limiares de audibilidade após exposi o ao ruído branco nas freqüências de 2, 3, 4 KHz, independentemente, do lado da orelha e sexo, e que as emiss es otoacústicas evidenciaram mudan as temporárias na sensibilidade auditiva após exposi o ao ruído através da redu o de suas amplitudes, nas freqüências de 2588 e 3614 Hz para o sexo feminino e nas freqüências de 932, 1304, 2588, 5128 Hz para o sexo masculino. Conclus o: Concluímos que tanto a audiometria tonal quanto as emiss es otoacústicas evidenciaram sensibilidade para detectar mudan as temporárias significantes nos limiares de audibilidade e amplitudes, respectivamente, após a exposi o ao ruído, variando de acordo com as freqüências estudadas.
