Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X1998000600012
Abstract: starting with a brief contextual analysis of the social scenario in which the aids epidemic is occurring in brazil, the article focuses on the formation of the country's first nongovernmental organizations in the struggle against aids. there are peculiarities to aids ngos to the extent that they display an ambivalence between the characteristics of a professional institution and a lobbying group, apart from the fact that dealing with sexuality and death breaks down the line between the public and the private spheres. the case in point is the grupo pela vidda (for life group) in rio de janeiro, which seeks to represent the enhancement of a group of individuals and the principle of universality. the study supports the hypothesis that aids ngos renew ties of social solidarity through the relationships established between various researchers involved in this sector and other ngos with governmental spheres.

Acta Scientiarum : Animal Sciences , 2011,
The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of the grass and extrusa from Girolanda heifers, under three stocking rates on grass pasture of Brachiaria decumbens Stapf., at different evaluation periods. Six Girolanda heifers were used, and treatmentsconsisted of different stocking rates (2, 4 and 6 UA). Each block was formed by three paddocks. The design was a randomized blocks design in split-plot with repeated measures over time. The bite rate of the animals varied according to assessment period, with values of 41 bites min.-1 (Period 1) and 33 bites min.-1 (Period 3). Bite rate decreased over the grazing period, with values from 41 to 33 bit min-1. Bite size was larger in grazing periods 2 and 3, at the stocking rate of 2 UA (0.40 and 0.43 g DM bite-1). Extrusa dry matter was higher in the third (15.0% DM) and second (17.4% DM) days of grazing. An increase in crude protein content of extusa occurred in the third grazing period (14.4%) and for total neutral detergent fiber (75.3%).

Comparison of Partner Choice between Lesbians and Heterosexual Women  [PDF]
Vivianni Veloso, Regina Brito, Cibele Nazaré da Silva Camara
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.52021
Abstract:

Studies comparing preferred partner selection between homosexual and heterosexual women have shown that homosexual women exhibit patterns of choice that resemble both the heterosexual men and heterosexual women. This intersection between groups indicates that some characteristics valued by women may be intermediate between homosexual men and heterosexual women. This selection appears to be influenced by the type of relationship of the individual. Heterosexual women emphasize preference for characteristics related to physical health in short-term relationships. In long-term relationships, the emphasis is on the characteristics of good provision of resources and emotional investment. This study aimed to compare the preferences of the two groups of women in partner choice in the types of relationships mentioned. The participants were 100 homosexual and 55 heterosexual women in reproductive period. A questionnaire was used to collect information. The participants were contacted by indication, in LGBT bars or associations. There were similarities between groups with regard to the choices they made. The Macro-category attachment formation was requested more in the long-term and good genes was more appreciated in the short term. However, in both short and long term relationships homosexuals appreciated good genes more than heterosexuals. Heterosexual women valued good provision of resources more in long-term relationships. The reasons for these differences could be several, starting from social aspects all the way up to biological ones.

Revista de Saúde Pública , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-89102004000300014
Abstract: objective: to characterize the profile of pharmacists employed as technical supervisors in drugstores and evaluate their knowledge regarding certain aspects of the legislation controlling drugstores and the profession in general. methods: based on 175 drugstores in the city of ribeir?o preto, southeastern brazil, 100 pharmacists/technical supervisors were randomly selected. data collection was done by means of in-person interviews, and was guided by a questionnaire evaluating knowledge and attitudes. data were processed and analyzed using epi info and stata software. associations were sought between dependent and independent variables using pearson's chi-squared and fisher's exact tests. results: most pharmacists were women (64%), aged 22-29 years (47%), graduated approximately three years prior to data collection, trained to work in the pharmaceutical industry (36%) or in clinical analysis (29%). pharmacist's knowledge of sanitary legislation was considered as insufficient for 28% of subjects, regular for 50%, and good for 22%. low levels of knowledge were observed regarding the legal requirement for the presence of a pharmacist during the entire drugstore opening hours, pharmacists' attributions, sale of antibiotics, and penicillin administration. it was found that most professionals have difficulties handling the concepts of 'generic' and 'similar' drugs. low level of knowledge was not associated with any of the independent variables, indicating that this is a generalized phenomenon, i.e., one present among pharmacists of all age groups and both sexes, irrespective of the time since graduation, institution attended, and modality of graduation, among others. conclusions: we conclude that training in the field of drug pharmaceutical care, during undergraduate studies and, especially, during traineeship in pharmacies and drugstores is deficient. it is necessary to divulge information concerning sanitary legislation so that pharmacists may fully exert their professio
