Case Reports in Clinical Medicine (CRCM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/crcm.2015.43025
Abstract:
Introduction: Advances in prenatal imaging studies have allowed early diagnosis of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), although neonatal mortality remains at high levels (60% survival). Despite advances, this study found delayed diagnosis, demonstrating subdiagnosis, possibly caused by lack of resources and/or prenatal diagnostic failure. Case Report 1: Infant, 4 months and 22 days old, dyspneic, cyanotic, with fever and vomiting for 3 days, treated as pneumonia. After the second chest radiography, a right CDH was revealed. Surgical correction was performed and removal of Meckel’s diverticulum was surgical findings. The patient was discharged on the 10th days after admission. Case Report 2: Infant, 11 months and 3 days old, distended abdomen, with fever and dyspnea for 2 days, treated as pneumonia. After the second chest radiography, a left CDH was revealed. The patient was submitted to surgery, intestinal loop incarceration without necrosis was observed, and the correction of CDH was performed. The patient was discharged on the 7th day after admission. Discussion: Three cases, between July 2012 and July 2013, were diagnosed at Dom Malam Hospital; 2 Cases of CDH, with delayed diagnosis, showed incidence of 66.66%. Delayed diagnosis of these patients with initial hypotheses of pneumonia demonstrated high risk, emphasizing the importance of diagnosis research through observation of the clinical course, the correct imaging interpretation, in order to establish early diagnosis and treatment.

Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-50532010000900018
Abstract: in this paper we report a theoretical study aiming to revisit the origin of the preferential π-π stacking conformation of the (+)-8-phenylmentyl acrylate (2). for this, we have applied several dft and ab initio methods to calculate local minimum geometries, vibrational frequencies, thermochemical properties and 1h nmr chemical shifts for 2 and the model compound 3-phenylpropyl acrylate (3). we have observed that the mpw1b95 functional was the most suitable method to explain 1h nmr experimental data which show the stacking conformation of 2 (2s) is more stable that trans conformation (2t) and the stacking conformation of 3 (3s) is less stable that trans conformation (3t). after that, geometrical and energetic features of the intermolecular complex benzene...methylacrylate (4) have also been studied using mpw1b95 method. from our results, we have noticed that both steric and dispersion effects play a key role in the conformational equilibrium of 2.

Revista Brasileira de Farmacognosia , 2012,
Abstract: The essential oil (EO) of aerial parts of Lantana camara L., Verbenaceae, from Sim es, Piaui, Northeast of Brazil, were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS techniques. In total, 68 compounds were identified. The most representative compounds of the oil were mono and sesquiterpenes. The main compounds found in the oil of the leaves in different months were β-caryophyllene (10.5%, in June of 2009), sabinene (7.98%, in September of 2008), limonene (7.68%, in September of 2008), spathulenol (11.64%, in September of 2008). The oil from stems of L. camara was characterized by a largest amount of sesquiterpenoids, with spatulenol (15.9%) and caryophyllene oxide (17.1% in June of 2009), as main components. β-Gurjunene (32.7%, in September of 2008) was the most prominent compound in the stems oils, which was absent or at very low relative abundance in leaves. L. camara essential oils from leaves were cytotoxic to V79 mammalian cells and also to Artemia salina, showing 50% lethal concentration (LC50) values from 0.23 μg/mL. The in vitro data obtained in this study suggested that EO may also be effective treating yeast infection in patients infected with fluconazole and terbinafine resistant isolates, but its toxicity must be monitored carefully.
