Simulation on SO2 and NOX Emission from Coal–Fired Power Plants in North-Eastern North America  [PDF]

Abstract: MM5-SMOKE-CMAQ regional air quality modeling system was used to simulate pollutants emission from coal–fired power plants in North-Eastern North America. The effects of SO2 and NOX on air quality producing from coal-fired power plants in the summer of 2001 were analyzed. Simulations show the contributions of SO2 and NOX emission from coal-fired power plants using different scenarios, coal-fired power plants from US and Canada contribute 67.2% and 32.8% for total SO2 concentration, 17.6% and 6.0% for total NOX concentration in researched domain. Some control measures for coal-fired power plants were discussed. Further controls for the emissions of SO2 and NOX from coal-fired power plants are necessary to reduce the adverse environmental effects.
Resistant Evaluation of Kiwifruit Rootstocks to Root Zone Hypoxia Stress  [PDF]

Abstract:

In this thesis, 10 species of kiwifruit rootstocks were treated with hydroponics hypoxia to study their root zone hypoxia tolerance. The results were as follows: growth of all kiwifruit seedlings was inhibited. The max length of new root, plant height, plant biomass, root activity, relative growth rate of leaves, and content of chlorophyll in leaves under root zone hypoxia stress obviously declined comparing with control. MDA content, relative conductance in the leaves and roots all increased in 10 kinds of kiwifruit seedlings. The sensitivities of 10 kinds’ kiwifruit seedlings to hypoxia stress were obviously different. With the method of subordinate function and cluster analysis, the adversity resistance coefficient of 10 kinds’ kiwifruit seedlings, were comprehensively evaluated in order to appraise their hypoxia-tolerance abilities. According to the results, “Hayward”, “Qinmei”, “Jinxiang”, “Kuoye”, “Huayou” kiwifruit seedlings held higher tolerance to root zone hypoxia stress, while “Hongyang” kiwifruit seedlings were sensitive to root zone hypoxia stress. The others, including “Xixuan”, “Maohua”, “Jinhua”, “Shanli” kiwifruit seedlings kept moderate resistant intensity to root zone hypoxia stress. Effects of Hypoxia Stress and Different Level of Mn2+ on Antioxidant Enzyme of Tomato Seedlings  [PDF]

Abstract: The changes of antioxidant enzyme activities and related genes expression of tomato seedlings were evaluated under hypoxia stress with different levels of Mn2+. Activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxide (APX), glutathione reductase (GR), catalase (CAT), the contents of H2O2, ascorbic (AsA) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were studied to investigate how active oxygen damaged the membrane lipid under hypoxia stress. With 10-200 μmol?L-1 Mn2+, the activities of SOD, POD, APX, GR and the contents of H2O2, AsA, MDA of leaves and roots increased significantly, which indicated that low Mn2+ could eliminate the active oxygen and protect the membrane lipid from hurt. But the activities of catalase (CAT) decreased evidently in the root. When the concentration of Mn2+ reached 400-600 μmol?L-1 under hypoxia stress, the activities of SOD, POD, APX, GR and ASA content decreased remarkably. However, the contents of H2O2 and MDA increased contrarily. A series of resistance genes level achieved peak value with 10 µmol?L-1 Mn2+. The expression level of SOD, CAT, APX, POD, GR were 6.28, 2.19, 5.66, 5.21 and 6.79 times compared to control respectively. These results illustrated appropriate amount of Mn2+ could reduce the damage of active oxygen under hypoxia stress, but reversely, high level of Mn2+ just aggravated the already serious damage to the tomato seedlings.

Abstract:

We numerically investigate the seven-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with the zero dispersion wavelength designed in the range of 1000 - 1080 nm, particularly suitable for the ytterbium-doped fiber laser pumping. Also, the PCFs are well designed for obtaining a flat in-phase mode by carefully adjusting the diameter of inner layer six holes, and the corresponding empirical values of fiber structure are summarized and listed. The variations of inner six holes to the amplitude of in-phase mode are further investigated, and our results show that a better tolerance can be achieved in the fiber structures with lower filling ratio configuration.

An improved EZBC algorithm based on block bit length

Abstract: Embedded ZeroBlock Coding and context modeling (EZBC) algorithm has high compression performance. However, it consumes large amounts of memory space because an Amplitude Quadtree of wavelet coefficients and other two link lists would be built during the encoding process. This is one of the big challenges for EZBC to be used in real time or hardware applications. An improved EZBC algorithm based on bit length of coefficients was brought forward in this article. It uses Bit Length Quadtree to complete the coding process and output the context for Arithmetic Coder. It can achieve the same compression performance as EZBC and save more than 75% memory space required in the encoding process. As Bit Length Quadtree can quickly locate the wavelet coefficients and judge their significance, the improved algorithm can dramatically accelerate the encoding speed. Simultaneous Accelerator Parallelization and Point-to-Point Interconnect Insertion for Bus-Based Embedded SoCs

Abstract: As performance requirements for bus-based embedded System-on-Chips (SoCs) increase, more and more on-chip application-specific hardware accelerators (e.g., filters, FFTs, JPEG encoders, GSMs, and AES encoders) are being integrated into their designs. These accelerators require system-level tradeoffs among performance, area, and scalability. Accelerator parallelization and Point-to-Point (P2P) interconnect insertion are two effective system-level adjustments. The former helps to boost the computing performance at the cost of area, while the latter provides higher bandwidth at the cost of routability. What's more, they interact with each other. This paper proposes a design flow to optimize accelerator parallelization and P2P interconnect insertion simultaneously. To explore the huge optimization space, we develop an effective algorithm, whose goal is to reduce total SoC latency under the constraints of SoC area and total P2P wire length. Experimental results show that the performance difference between our proposed algorithm and the optimal results is only 2.33% on average, while the running time of the algorithm is less than 17 s.
