Mechanical analysis of functionally graded plates based on the input data of metallographic diagrams

Abstract: A microelement method for scale-span analysis of material microstructure and member macro response has been proposed. Instead of material parameter input for traditional mechanical analysis, the method is based on the input of metallographic diagram information. In order to express the material microstructure, this method arranges concentrated microelements in ordinary finite element before calculation, and transfers the node degrees of freedom of each microelement into the ones of the same finite element via compatibility conditions. This method can realize direct transition analysis from material microstructure to macro responses of members, while computation elements and degrees of freedom are equal to those of ordinary FEM. Based on the complicated microstructure diagrams proposed by material metallographic diagram, the mechanics responses of functionally graded plates are calculated and 3-D distributions of macro-mechanical variables and identical stress lines tendency on microstructure are given.

Abstract: In this article, we utilized the lumped damage mechanics method to implement the damage analysis to the 3D frame structure under impulsive load. First, take the damage parameters as the interior variable of the system, and based on the finite unit, combine continuum mechanics, fracture mechanics and plastic hinge to analyze the mechanical behaviors of the structure, and finally implement numerical simulation analysis to the frame structure with two layers, and compare the result with the computation result of ABAQUS to validate the feasibility.
Gateways Placement in Backbone Wireless Mesh Networks  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper presents a novel algorithm for the gate瑆ay placement problem in Backbone Wireless Mesh Networks (BWMNs). Different from existing algorithms, the new algorithm incrementally identifies gateways and assigns mesh routers to identified gateways. The new algorithm can guarantee to find a feasible gateway placement satisfying Quality-of-Service (QoS) constraints, including delay constraint, relay load constraint and gateway capacity constraint. Experimental results show that its performance is as good as that of the best of existing algorithms for the gateway placement problem. But, the new algorithm can be used for BWMNs that do not form one connected component, and it is easy to implement and use.

Abstract: Network RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) is a technology that is based on GPS (Global Positioning System) or more gener-ally on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) measurements to achieve centimeter-level accuracy positioning in real-time. Reference station placement is an important problem in the design and deployment of network RTK systems as it directly affects the quality of the positioning service and the cost of the network RTK systems. This paper identifies a new reference station placement for network RTK, namely QoS-aware regional network RTK reference station placement problem, and proposes an algorithm for the new reference station placement problem. The algorithm can always produce a reference station placement solution that completely covers the region of network RTK.

Traffic Modeling of a Finite-Source Power Line Communication Network  [PDF]

Abstract: Power line communication (PLC) is a promising smart grid application for information transmission using existing power lines. We analytically model a finite-source PLC network subject to channel failure through a queueing theoretic framework. The proposed PLC network model consists of a base station (BS), which is located at a transformer station and connected to the backbone communication networks, and a number of subscriber stations that are interconnected with each other and with the BS via the power line transmission medium. An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based technique is assumed for forming the transmission channels in a frequency spectrum. The channels are subject to failure during service due to noise. We determine the steady-state solution of the proposed model and derive a set of performance metrics of interest. Numerical and simulation results are presented to provide further insights into the analytical results. The proposed modeling method is expected to be used for evaluation and design of future PLC networks.

Abstract: In recent years, China’s overall performance stood out extraordinarily. Although the PRC is not only a socialist but also a developing country, it still has offered financial relief to European countries. None of Beijing’s leaders has been directly elected by the people, but most of them have been proven to be competent. Does this mean that the “Beijing Consensus” has taken over “Washington Consensus”? Given China’s vast population and its unique geographical environment and historical development, compared to European countries, China is sui generis. In the traditional Confucianism, benevolence (仁) is a virtue which human beings are born with, while the Western world is rooted deeply in the Christian culture of “original sin”. As a result the rule of virtue in China contrasts the rule of law in the West, harmony vs. contradiction. China’s “socialist market economy” and “Three Represents” are typical oxymorons but with great success. Since the implementation of a “socialist market economy” in 1992 there has been much more market economy than socialism. Currently, political, social and cultural sectors are lagging behind. Therefore, the gap between the rich and the poor must be reduced efficiently. Nonetheless, the corruption problem remains as another serious and important issue for the CCP. Without independent anti-corruption authorities, it would be extremely difficult for them to tackle this problem. For the time being the Mainland has to count on the leadership to set examples for others.

Abstract: For the uniqueness and one-time feature, construction project is urgently needed in knowledge transferring to acquire its high performance. This paper focuses in the exploration of knowledge transferring features from the network perspective. Based on the data from a real construction project team of 40 members, we find that all members have knowledge transferring behavior, while the knowledge transferring density is comparatively low and distance is long; from cluster analysis we find that 89 different clusters in the whole network, and some members (especially the managers) repeated appear in different clusters and assume the responsibilities in coordinating knowledge transferring.

Abstract:

The Francis turbine governing system models in PSD-BPA can’t precisely reflect the actual characteristics. Endeavor was done in this paper to solve the problem. An improved model of actuating mechanism was developed, which could reflect the step closing characteristic of hydro guide vanes. The effect of the inflection point value of actuating mechanism on load rejection was analyzed based on simulation. The non-linear Francis turbine model with power versus gate position module was researched in this paper. Based on field test, comparisons of simulation results with measured data were presented. The analysis demonstrates that the improved models of Francis turbine and governor proposed in this paper are more realistic than the models of BPA, and can be applied in power system simulation analysis better.
