Mazer, Sheila Maria;Melo-Silva, Lucy Leal;
Psicologia: Ciência e Profiss?o , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-98932010000200005
Abstract: this study, of the type "state of the art" type, aims at the analysis of the brazilian scientific production about the psychologist's professional identity. scientific papers that contained the keywords: identity, professional and psychologist were analyzed. publications from 1991 to 2008 were analyzed: 15 articles published in journals, 4 master's theses, 3 chapters from books, 3 abstracts published in the annals of scientific events, and 2 doctorate dissertations. the publications were systematized and classified into two categories: (1) the construction of the psychologist's professional identity, with three subcategories - the choice of psychology as a profession, academic training in psychology and professional practicing, and (2) the paradigm changes in professional practice. the results showed that the psychologist's identity is seen as the outcome of an integrated set of personal and professional factors that influence the development of their career. besides that, the studies point out the need for change in the professional practice, from traditional paradigms, centered on the individual, into paradigms anchored on social perspectives, which are more in accordance with the brazilian reality.

Abstract: the purpose of this study is to undertake a non-systematic revision of the bibliography dedicated to the perception of the experiences of 'the coming death and dying' in the perspective of the oncologycal patient, in accordance with the different phases of lifespan. the results show that, in children, the perception of death is modified gradually as the thought and the language develops. in adults, the conception of death depends on their physical and psychological experience. finally, in elderly people the death is better accepted and its perception depends on the satisfaction previously gained during the lifespan. bearing that in mind, specialized bibliography emphasizes that the perception of the coming death is still an eminently individual experience, therefore, the subjectivity of each oncologycal patient should be considered. concluding, this study intends to emphasize the transformations in the perception of the coming death, during the illness development, coping with the presence of death as an integrating part of life.

IL-13 GENE TRANSLATION IS ARRESTED BY A NOVEL OLIGONUCLEOTIDE IN CULTURED HUMAN B- LYMPHOCYTES
Tahere Mousavi,Bruce Mazer
Iranian Journal Of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology , 2003,
Abstract: Antisense oligodeoxynucleotides (oligos) are the tools that bind to complemen tary sequence of targeted mRNA and block specifically protein translation. In the present study, a novel 20 mer oligo as an antisense for human IL-13 is introduced. This oligo is designed according to the IL-13 mRNA coding region and synthesized in two HPLC purified and FITC conjugated forms. Fluorescence oligo cell uptake is confirmed using flowcytometry and confocal microscopy, and cytotoxicity evaluation is performed us ing BrdU proliferation assay. Human tonsilar B-lymphocytes are purified by positive selection using magnetic cell sorting method and cultured with anti CD40 monoclonal antibody plus rIL-4 to induce IL-13 production. IL-13 antisense is added to medium and Real Time PCR for mRNA, and ELISA for protein assays. Data indicate that antisense application leads to down regulation and complete suppression of IL-13 pro tein with no significant effects on mRNA, suggesting in vitro protein translation arrest. Since 11-13 is a crucial cytokine in allergic conditions, we conclude that interference with the protein synthesis by a nontoxic and efficient antisense oligo can provide an available tool for the investigators on allergic diseases.

Lulwa Ashaq, Yousef Al Mazer, Nourah Al Qahtani
Open Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OJOG) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojog.2017.711108
Abstract: Objectives: To identify different biophysical and hormonal factors that could contribute to recurrent pregnancy loss in Saudi women who have been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. Study Design: Case-control study. Settings: Infertility clinic in Dammam Maternity and Children Hospital. Cases: PCOS patients with recurrent pregnancy loss. Controls: PCOS patients without recurrent pregnancy loss. Results: The prevalence of recurrent abortion in PCOS patients was 31%. There was no significant difference between the cases and the controls in the age, 33.1 years versus 31.9 years, BMI, 31.4 kg/m2 versus 31.6 kg/m2 respectively. There was no significant difference in the successful pregnancies outcome in cases and controls, term deliveries 84% versus 90%, preterm deliveries 10% versus 5%, twin pregnancy 6% versus 5% respectively. There was no significant difference in the hormonal profile (prolactin, LH, FSH, LH/FSH ratio, TSH, progesterone, testosterone) between cases and controls. Serum estradiol level was significantly lower in the cases compared to the controls, 55.5 pg/mL versus 83.9 pg/mL respectively (p < 0.01). Conclusion: PCOS patients with recurrent abortions had no significant increase in the age, BMI, preterm pregnancy, multiple gestation and ectopic pregnancy. The hormonal profile (prolactin, LH, FSH, LH/FSH ratio, TSH, progesterone, testosterone) was comparable between the cases and the controls, except for serum estradiol level, which was significantly lower in PCOS patients with recurrent abortions.
"Todo mundo conhece a gente agora": cultura e identidade de jovens rurais em Minas Gerais (Brasil)
Magno,Lucas; Doula,Sheila Maria; de Almeida Pinto,Neide Maria;
Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Ni?ez y Juventud , 2011,
Abstract: the objective of this paper is to analyze the construction of identities among young people in a rural neighborhood in vi?osa (in minas gerais, a state in brazil) from the social representation that they do with the musical percussion art project "tambores do buieié" (drums of buieié) and check how they (re) signify the culture as a response to the stigma that urban society has built in relation to that community. in this research it was used as methodology the non-participant observation and interviews with a structured script. the neighborhood of buieié has a former slave's descendant population living in precarious conditions, what leads the townspeople to build an identity on them based on preconceived categories associated with the location, which turns out to settle a conflicting identity to the one the buieié residents themselves elaborate about them. the cultural project stands as an alternative for young people to the (re)construction and valorization of territorial identity from alterity.
