Colored Bin Packing

Abstract: We study the Colored Bin Packing Problem: we are given a set of items where each item has a weight and color. We must pack the items in bins of uniform capacity such that no two items of the same color may be adjacent within in a bin. The goal is to perform this packing using the fewest number of bins. We consider a version of the problem where reordering is allowed. We first consider the zero-weight and unit weight versions of this problem, i.e. where the items have weight zero and one, respectively. We present linear time optimal algorithms for both versions.
Bin Packing with Multiple Colors

Abstract: In the Colored Bin Packing problem a set of items with varying weights and colors must be packed into bins of uniform weight limit such that no two items of the same color may be packed adjacently within a bin. We solve this problem for the case where there are two or more colors when the items have zero weight and when the items have unit weight. Our algorithms are optimal and run in linear time. Since our algorithms apply for two or more colors, they demonstrate that the problem does not get harder as the number of colors increases. We also provide closed-form expressions for the optimal number of bins.

Abstract: Multiple attribute decision analysis (MADA) problems in the situation of belief group decision making (BGDM) are a special class of decision problems, where the attribute evaluations of each decision maker (DM) are represented by belief functions. In order to solve these special problems, in this paper, TOPSIS (technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution) model is extended by three approaches, by which group preferences are aggregated in different manners. Corresponding to the three approaches, three extended TOPSIS models, the pre-model, post-model, and inter-model, are developed and their procedures are elaborated step by step. Aggregating group preferences in the three extended models respectively depends on Dempster’s rule or its modifications, some social choice functions, and some mean approaches. Furthermore, a numerical example clearly illustrates the procedures of the three extended models for BGDM.

A Modified Pareto Dominance Based Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm for Groundwater Management Model  [PDF]

Abstract: This study proposes a groundwater management model in which the solution is performed through a combined simulation-optimization model. In the proposed model, a modular three-dimensional finite difference groundwater flow model, MODFLOW is used as simulation model. This model is then integrated with an optimization model, in which a modified Pareto dominance based Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm (mPRCGA) is adopted. The performance of the proposed mPRCGA based management model is tested on a hypothetical numerical example. The results indicate that the proposed mPRCGA based management model is an effective way to obtain good optimum management strategy and may be used to solve other type of groundwater simulation-optimization problems.

Statistical methods have been getting constant development since 1970s. However, the statistical methods of the big data are no longer restricted with these methods which are listed in the textbook. This paper mainly demonstrates the Discrimination Analysis of Multivariate Statistical Analysis, Linear Dimensionality Reduction and Nonlinear Dimensionality Reduction Method under the circumstances of the wide range of applications of high-dimensional data. This paper includes three parts. To begin with, the paper illustrates a developing trend from the data to the high-dimensional. Meanwhile, it analyzes the impacts of the high-dimensional data on discriminate analysis methods. The second part represents the necessity of the dimensionality reduction studies in the era of the high-dimensional data overflowing. Then, the paper focuses on introducing the main methods of the linear dimensionality reduction. In addition, this paper covers the basic idea of the nonlinear dimensionality reduction. Moreover, it systematically analyzes the breakthrough of the traditional methods. Furthermore, it chronologically demonstrates the developing trend of the dimensionality reduction method. The final part shows a comprehensive and systematic conclusion to the whole essay and describes a developing prospect of the dimension reduction methods in the future. Oxidative Stress Induced by CuO Nanoparticles (CuO NPs) to Human Hepatocarcinoma (HepG2) Cells  [PDF]

Abstract: The toxicity of CuO nanoparticles (CuO NPs) to human hepatocarcinoma (HepG2) cells was investigated in this study. CuO NPs (1 - 40 mg/L) had significant toxicity to HepG2 cells. The antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) significantly reduces the cytotoxicity induced by the CuO NPs, supporting the hypothesis that oxidative stress contributes to the cytotoxicity of CuO NPs. To further explore the oxidative mechanisms of cytotoxicity, we examined CuO NPs-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in HepG2 cells. CuO NPs generated intracellular ROS in HepG2 cells in a concentration-dependent manner.
