Atypical Femoral Fractures in a Patient with Continuous Decreasing BMD after Only 1.5 Years of Bisphosphonate Treatment  [PDF]

Abstract: Objective: Bisphosphonates were accepted first line treatment for osteoporosis. Long-term bisphosphonate treatment has been reported to be complicated with osteonecrosis of jaw (ONJ) and atypical fracture of femur. It is proposed to be the result of impaired remodeling of minor injury of bone. An atypical fracture occurs on a patient received only 1.5 years of bisphosphonate treatment with continuous decreasing bone mineral density. Case Presentation: This is a 53-year-old female Taiwanese. She has rheumatoid arthritis and has received long-term glucocorticoid treatment. Continuous decrease of bone mineral density in the serial BMD examination after alendronate treatment can be found. Thigh pain occurs after only 1.5 years of bisphosphonate treatment and it progresses to atypical fracture. Conclusions: Atypical fracture can occur in patients receive only short-term bisphosphonate treatment even BMD is still decreased after bisphosphonate treatment. Autoimmune disease, glucocorticoid treatment, Asian and female may be the possible risk factors.
Application of Artificial Anisotropy in 3-D ADI-FDTD Method

Abstract: Attention is focused on a new method to reduce the numerical dispersion of the 3-D Alternating-Direction Implicit Finite-Difference Time-Domain(ADI-FDTD) method through artificial anisotropy. As the wave propagation can be speeded up by introducing proper anisotropy parameters into the 3-D ADI-FDTD method, the numerical dispersion can be reduced and the accuracy can be improved significantly. First, the numerical formulations of the 3-D ADI-FDTD method are modified. Secondly, the new numerical dispersion relation is derived. And consequently the relative permittivity tensor of artificial anisotropy can be obtained. In order to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of this new method, a hollow waveguide and a waveguide with discontinuous structure are simulated as examples. In addition the reduction of numerical dispersion is investigated as a function of the relative permittivity tensor of artificial anisotropy. Furthermore, the numerical results and the computational requirements of the proposed method are compared with those of the conventional 3-D ADI-FDTD method. It is found that this new method is accurate and efficient.
A Geometrical Position Location Method Suitable for NLOS Environment

Abstract: Based on the positive bias property of the Time-Of-Arrival(TOA)measurement error caused by Non- Line-Of-Sight(NLOS)propagation in the mobile communication environment,a simple geometrical position location method is presented.Some sites are determined according to the coordinates of the base-stations and TOAs,and the location estimation of mobile station is achieved by averaging the coordinates of these sites.The simulation results show that this method can effectively improve the location accuracy in NLOS environment with little degeneration to mobile location in LOS environment.
Theoretical Vibration Analysis on 600?Wh Energy Storage Flywheel Rotor—Active Magnetic Bearing System

Abstract: This paper shows a theoretical vibration analysis regarding the controller’s parameters and the gyroscopic effect, based on a simplified rotordynamic model. Combined with 600?Wh energy storage flywheel rotor system mathematical model, the Campbell diagram of the rotor system was obtained by the calculation of the whirl frequency under different parameters of the controller in MATLAB to analyze the effect of the controller parameter on the whirl frequency and to limit the operating speed and acceleration or deceleration of the rotor. The result of the analysis can be used to set the support position of the rotor system, limit the ratio of transverse moment of inertia and the polar moment of inertia, and direct the flywheel prototype future design. The presented simplified rotordynamic model can also be applied to rotating machines. 1. Introduction Later in the 1970s, flywheel energy storage was proposed as a primary objective for electric vehicles and stationary power backup [1]. With the improvements in materials, magnetic bearing technology, and power electronics, flywheel energy storage technology has large developments. Compared with traditional battery energy storage system, flywheel energy storage system has many advantages such as higher energy storage density, higher specific power and power density, lower risk of overcharge or overdischarge, wide range of operation temperature, very long life cycle, and environmental friendliness [2]. Many problems appear as the development of flywheel energy storage, and one of them is the bearing. Besides, the active magnetic bearing (AMB) implies that bearing forces are actively controlled by means of electromagnets, a well-designed closed control loop, and other components such as position sensors and power amplifiers [3]. Therefore, the rotor of the AMB can be suspended to the predefined positions by the controlled electromagnetic forces without mechanical contact and friction between the magnetic bearing and the rotor [4]. Based on the noncontact and frictionless characteristics, the magnetic suspension of AMB offers many practical and promising advantages over conventional bearings such as longer life, lower rotating frictional losses, higher rotational speed, and elimination of the lubrication [5]. Experimental measurement of radiation dose in a dedicated breast CT system

Abstract: Radiation dose is an important performance indicator of a dedicated breast CT (DBCT). In this paper, the method of putting thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) into a breast shaped PMMA phantom to study the dose distribution in breasts was improved by using smaller TLDs and a new half-ellipsoid PMMA phantom. Then the weighted CT dose index (CTDIw) was introduced to average glandular assessment in DBCT for the first time and two measurement modes were proposed for different sizes of breasts. The dose deviations caused by using cylindrical phantoms were simulated using the Monte Carlo method and a set of correction factors were calculated. The results of the confirmatory measurement with a cylindrical phantom (11cm/8cm) show that CTDIw gives a relatively conservative overestimate of the average glandular dose comparing to the results of Monte Carlo simulation and TLDs measurement. But with better practicability and stability, the CTDIw is suitable for dose evaluations in daily clinical practice. Both of the TLDs and CTDIw measurements demonstrate that the radiation dose of our DBCT system is lower than conventional two-view mammography.
The Research Advance of Facial Expression Recognition in Human Computer Interaction

Abstract: Along with the rapid progress of the technologies in human computer interaction and affective computing, facial expression recognition has been actively researched. To clarify the research direction and development of facial expression recognition in human computer interaction, the research states of facial expression recognition are analyzed from the aspects of facial expression database, facial feature extraction, facial expression classification methods, robust facial expression recognition, fine-graded facial expression recognition, mixed facial expression recognition, and non-basic facial expression recognition. Finally, the study hotspots and trends of facial expression recognition are concluded, the limits in facial expression recognition are pointed out, and the expectation of the development of facial expression recognition is given.
A New Perspective on Innovation Driving Global Value Chains Upgrading of High-Tech Industries: Evidence from China  [PDF]

High-tech industries and their upgrading along global value chains are the important parts of China’s future industry development. The process of innovation promoting global value chains upgrading of high-tech industries is affected by four factors, namely, the innovation input, the innovation carrier, the innovation culture and the innovation market. If analyzed by the chemical reaction equation, the innovation input is considered as the reactant, the output is the resultant, the innovation carrier is the catalyst, the innovation culture is the equivalent to the reaction conditions, and the innovation market has the selection to the resultant. The final chosen innovation achievement can bring high-tech industries with product upgrading, process upgrading, function upgrading and value chain upgrading. Through the empirical test, it finds that the innovation input, the innovation market and the innovation culture have obvious effects on global value chains upgrading of high-tech industries, but the innovation carrier not.

Abstract: With the expansion in enrollment scale of financial management and the increase in the pressure of job-hunting, more and more schools start to analyze the problem regarding how to cultivate excellent financial management talents who meet the social demand, and how to build their own features and brands (Zhang Junrui & Liu Donglin, 2005). In this paper, according to Chinese certified public accountants competence guide and starting from the professional competency model, we analyzed how to attain harmony between knowledge imparting and students’ vocational ability training in the professional education in financial management, and discussed the necessity of the coordination in the professional education in financial management and students’ vocational ability training. Finally, we discovered four pathways to harmonize financial management professional teaching and professional competency training: 1) establishment of dynamic course modules based on demand orientation; 2) reform of teaching methods; 3) bringing practical experts into the classroom; 4) establishment of a multi-dimensional students learning quality evaluation.
Computational Effective Predictive End-Point Trajectory Control of Flexible Manipulators with Measureable Feedback Lag

Abstract: A trajectory tracking approach is proposed for end-point trajectory control of elastic manipulator based on model predictive control. In practice measuring lag is inevitable for flexible manipulator. To solve the problem, a simplified linear predictive model is derived from the manipulator’s dynamics and special prediction strategy based on this model is designed to predict the robot’s future behavior with delayed feedback. Then the control law aimed to minimize a quadratic performance index of predicted tracking error is proposed. Since the conventional predictive control involves large amount of calculation, which is intolerable for high sampling speed, proper simplifications are made to achieve high computation efficiency through obtaining the analytical expression of the control signal. Theoretical analysis proves the boundness and stability convergence of the end-point tracking error. Finally the proposed controller is applied to a one-link manipulator in simulation section, where good control effect demonstrates the advantages of the proposed controller.
