Effects of a Care Workshop on Caring Behaviors as Measured by Patients and Patient Satisfaction  [PDF]

Abstract: Caring is a central focus of nursing, and patient satisfaction is a critical indicator of nursing care quality. The aim of this study was to determine the effects that a care workshop exerted on nurse caring behaviors as perceived by patients and reflected by patient satisfaction. A quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest design without a control group was applied. The intervention consisted of several facets: 1) formal educational sessions twice a week for six weeks, 2) an angel-master mentorship activity, and 3) posts of exemplary caring behavior and stories. A demographic questionnaire, the Modified Nurse Caring Behaviors Inventory, and the Hartford Hospital Satisfaction Survey were used in this study. Descriptive statistics were analyzed to evaluate participant demographic characteristics. Paired t tests were used to determine the effects of a care workshop on nurse caring behaviors as perceived by patients and reflected by patient satisfaction. Of the 236 patients enrolled, 49.6% were women and 57.2% were admitted to medical-surgical units. Female patients rated nurse caring behaviors higher and reported greater patient satisfaction than did male patients on the pretest (p < 0.05) and 6-week posttest (p < 0.01). Patient with medical-surgical admissions rated nurse caring behaviors higher and reported greater patient satisfaction than patients with emergency admissions did on the pretest and 6-week posttest (p < 0.01). Nurse caring behaviors and patient satisfaction were positively correlated on the pretest (p < 0.05) and 6-week posttest (p < 0.01). Patient satisfaction scores increased after the intervention compared with the pretest scores (p = 0.000). Caring educational programs for nurses are commonly regarded to be an essential strategy for promoting care knowledge and practice and improving patient satisfaction. According to the favorable results of this study, care workshops must be provides to nurses in other units or hospitals in future studies.

A Reconstruction Method for Disparity Image Based on Region Segmentation and RBF Neural Network

Abstract: The Reconstruction for disparity image is the key technology for 3D image restoration in stereovision field. However, the data volume of disparity images is so large and the topological structures of disparity images is so complicated that reconstruction for disparity image is very difficult. We had done a lot of works for the sake of constructing a new method to reconstruct disparity image. In this study, a reconstruction method for disparity image based on region segmentation and isomorphic RBF(Radical Basis Function) neural network is presented. First, the disparity image is divided into some regions with adjustable threshold and edge detection. Next, reconstruction based on RBF neural network is carried out in every region, in which process the disparity point clouds are optimized. Then, all the regions are connected and the reconstruction result is obtained. Application of time-frequency analysis method for seismic imaging data

Abstract: This paper deals with the interpretation of seismic imaging data by the time-frequency analysis method.The time and space distribution of the seismic spectrum is obtained by short-time FT transform.According to the relationship of media and its seismic spectrum,by the comparison of the known geological section and the related distribution of the seismic spectrum,the effectiveness of the time-frequency analysis method is demonstrated.By use of time-frequency analysis, the information of geological stratum and structures contained in seismic spectrum is extracted and then serves as the important reference in the processing and interpretation of seismic imaging data.Several history cases on determining subsurface rocks,outlining the distribution of thin clay layers,detecting underground cavities and allocating defects in concrete frames by combined use of time domain and spectra domain analysis of seismic imaging data are presented.It is found that the precision and correction of interpretation of seismic imaging data can be improved by combined application of time and spectra information.
Phoebe's orbit from ground-based and space-based observations

Abstract: The ephemeris of Phoebe, the ninth satellite of Saturn, is not very accurate. Previous dynamical models were usually too simplified, the astrometry is heterogeneous and, the Saturn's ephemeris itself is an additionnal source of error. The aim is to improve Phoebe's ephemeris by using a large set of observations, correcting some systematic errors and updating the dynamical model. The dynamical model makes use of the most recent ephemeris of planets and Saturnian satellites. The astrometry of Phoebe is improved by using a compilation of ground-based and space-based observations and by correcting the bias in stellar catalogues used for the reduction. We present an accurate ephemeris of Phoebe with residuals of 0.45 arcsec and with an estimated accuracy of Phoebe's position of less that 100 km on 1990-2020 period.
Pollution level and human health risk assessment of some pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls in Nantong of Southeast China

Abstract: Food consumption is one of the key exposure routes of humans to contaminants. This article evaluated the residue levels of 51 pesticides and 16 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in selected fish and food items which were commonly consumed in the Nantong area of Jiangsu Province, Southeast China. The 51 pesticides and 16 PCBs were analyzed by highly sensitive gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). The results showed that organochlorine pesticides such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs), hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and mirex and other pesticides including chlorpyrifos, pyrethroid pesticides, metolachlor, pyridaben and trifluralin were frequently detected in the samples, which was consistent with the accumulation level and characteristics of these toxic chemicals in human adipose tissue of people living in Nantong. Meanwhile, correlation of the residue level of toxic chemicals with their physical chemical properties and historic use pattern in Nantong area was observed. Combined with dietary survey results at the same sampling locations, human health risk assessment of ingestion through the dietary route was performed. The results suggested that the non-cancer risks of the chemicals investigated can be considered negligible in the Nantong area, however, the cancer risks from lifetime dietary exposure to DDTs and HCB have exceeded the acceptable levels.

Abstract: 运用批吸附技术研究了海带、裙带菜和条斑紫菜对水溶液中Pb2+的吸附特性。结果表明:pH是影响生物吸附的重要因素,海带和裙带菜吸附Pb2+的适宜pH在3~5之间,紫菜吸附Pb2+的最佳pH为4;在20~40℃范围内,3种海藻对Pb2+的生物吸附非常快,40 min达到吸附平衡,动力学数据符合准二级动力学模型;Langmuir和Freundlich模型成功地拟合了平衡数据。热力学分析表明吸附能够自发进行。红外光谱分析表明,羧基是海带和裙带菜吸附Pb2+的主要官能团。实验结果表明,用这3种海藻吸附剂对水溶液中Pb2+具有较好的吸附性能,海带和裙带菜的吸附容量相近,优于紫菜。
PI3K Contributed to Modulation of Spinal Nociceptive Information Related to ephrinBs/EphBs

Abstract: There is accumulating evidence to implicate the importance of EphBs receptors and ephrinBs ligands were involved in modulation of spinal nociceptive information. However, the downstream mechanisms that control this process are not well understood. In the present study, we investigated whether phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), as the downstream effectors, participates in modulation of spinal nociceptive information related to ephrinBs/EphBs. Intrathecal injection of ephrinB1-Fc produced a dose- and time-dependent thermal and mechanical hyperalgesia, accompanied by the increase of spinal PI3K-p110γ, phosphorylation of AKT (p-AKT) and c-Fos expression. Pre-treatment with PI3K inhibitor wortmannin or LY294002 prevented activation of spinal AKT induced by ephrinB1-Fc. Inhibition of spinal PI3K signaling dose-dependently prevented and reversed pain behaviors and spinal c-Fos protein expression induced by intrathecal injection of ephrinB1-Fc. Inhibition of EphBs receptors by intrathecal injection of EphB1-Fc reduced formalin-induced inflammation and chronic constrictive injury-induced neuropathic pain behaviors accompanied by decreased expression of spinal PI3K,p-AKT and c-Fos protein. Furthermore, pre-treatment with PI3K inhibitor wortmannin or LY294002 prevented ephrinB1-Fc-induced ERK activation in spinal. These data demonstrated that PI3K and PI3K crosstalk to ERK signaling contributed to modulation of spinal nociceptive information related to ephrinBs/EphBs.
