Preimplantational genetic diagnosis: an actual alternative with future implications
Claudia Juliana Serrano Serrano
MedUNAB , 2005,
Abstract: Preimplantational genetic diagnosis (PGT) isa new technique, promoted as an alternative for prenatal diagnosisand eventually for the voluntary termination of pregnancy whenthe couple is willing . Essentially, they are afraid that a geneticdisease may be transmitted to their descendents. After the assistedreproduction techniques have been applied, an embryo biopsy isconducted, extracting two of the blastomeres, which are geneticallyanalyzed. Those embryos free from genetic diseases are implantedin the mother uterus. PGT has also allowed the medical communityto study different aspects of the early embryo development andthe comprehension of reproductive genetics. However these newtechniques have given rise to many ethical questions and debatesabout the moral consequences of routinely practicing PGT.
The Tower of Hanoi for Evaluating Dysexecutive Syndrome in Patients with Parkinson’s: Standardization Values  [PDF]
Marcos Serrano-Due?as, Belén Calero, Maite Serrano
Advances in Parkinson's Disease (APD) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/apd.2017.63008
Abstract:
Objective: The Tower of Hanoi measures executive functions using non-verbal content and requires perception of position in space. The main objective of this study is to standardize the use of the TOH as a measurement tool in Parkinson’s disease. Patients and Methods: Of the Control Group subjects, 192 (59.6%) were women, 223 subjects (69.25%) were able to perform the TOH with 3 discs. In the Parkinson’s Group, there were 57 women (39.3%), and 66 subjects (45.5%) did not get past that level. Results: If we take the TOH (with 3 or 4 discs) as a tool for discriminating between those who have dysexecutive syndrome and those who do not, we find that the Parkinson’s Group presents dysexecutive syndrome significantly more frequently than the Control Group (p ≤ 0.0064). Conclusion: We can conclude that dysexecutive syndrome is frequent in Parkinson’s patients and it is more prevalent than in the general population.
Conflicto armado e información: una reflexión sobre las reglas de conducta profesional periodística que dicta el Acuerdo por la discreción
Serrano,Yeny;

EL OCASO DE LA CLAUSURA: MUJERES, RELIGIóN Y ESTADO NACIONAL. EL CASO CHILENO
Serrano,Sol;
Historia (Santiago) , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-71942009000200006
Abstract: the decline of the women religious model represented by contemplative nun convents between the end of the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth, was part of a reform process experienced in different spheres of influence. among them it is possible to mention the enlightened despotism, the liberalism exerted by national states and the ecclesiastical reformism of chile. this article shows that contemplative nuns stopped being considered as women for liberalism because they did not fulfill a mother role. moreover they were displaced within the catholic realm by religious women with active roles in society, who fulfilled the role of social mothers. the exclusion of women from the enjoyment of political rights was linked to this process because the formationof a new public space required the conformation of a private space governed by mothers.

El personaje periodístico, ?efecto de realidad o modelo de conducta? análisis de discurso de la sección las voces de la otra Colombia publicada por el diario El Tiempo
Serrano,Yeny;
Universitas Psychologica , 2005,
Abstract: this article is based on the series the voice of the other colombia published in el tiempo journal, which proposes an analysis that illustrates current trends of information dissemination through stories and narrations. the analysis observes this trend through narrative theory focusing in what is referred to as “personaje periodístico”. various studies have highlighted that the dissemination of information through the use of narrations created around a main character, are useful to reinforce the “reality effect” of a text. our objective was that of identifying the common characteristics of the nine characters that were used in the series under analysis. the results show that the journal tends to prefer a “model” for its characters: man, 40 years of age, with low income, from a disadvantaged region in the country, and that is in constant contact with violence and / or poverty. each character would then decide to “get out of this situation by himself ”.

Juros, cambio e o sistema de metas de infla??o no Brasil
Serrano, Franklin;
Revista de Economia Política , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31572010000100004
Abstract: interest rate, exchange rate and the system of inflation target in brazil. in the consensus view of the brazilian system of inflation targeting, the core of inflation is due to demand shocks; the rate of interest is set to control demand; and some variation in the exchange rate happens as "collateral damage". in this note we argue that in reality core inflation comes from cost push; the interest rate affects the exchange rate; changes in the exchange rate affect costs and prices; it is the effect of interest rates on demand that is the "collateral damage" and that the long run anchor of the system is low average real wage rigidity.
Complejidad e inclusividad progresivas: algunas implicaciones y evidencias empíricas en el caso de las funciones contextual, suplementaria y selectora
Serrano, Mario;
Revista mexicana de análisis de la conducta , 2009,
Abstract: procedural criterion and adjustment indexes for the experimental analysis and quantification of contextual (differentially index), supplementary (effectiveness index), and selector (precision index) functions recognized in ribes and lópez (1985) taxonomic proposal are described. preliminary data using rats as subjects and an open-field apparatus showed a high empirical correspondence between the taxonomic proposal's progressive complexity and inclusiveness assumptions and the adjustment of behavior under three kinds of stimulus schedules of water delivery: non-contingent, contingent, and conditional-contingent. specifically, differentially indexes were higher than effectiveness indexes, which were higher than precision indexes. terminal differentiallity and effectiveness indexes also decreased with increases in the complexity of the schedules for water delivery.
