Las historias de Bartolomé Mitre: operación nacionalista al gusto de los argentinos
Mejía,Sergio;
Historia Crítica , 2007,
Abstract: after discussing the 1864 criticism of bartolomé mitre’s historia de belgrano written by juan bautista alberdi, the article discusses the main reviews of the work, stretching from its publication to the present; one theme is common to them all: their expressed gratitude to the historian. mitre’s work is presented here as the matrix of a flattering national discourse for its argentinean readers, one of the reasons for its wide diffusion and persistence in the heart of argentinean national discourse. this type of analysis is proposed as a contribution to recent debates on the phenomena of nationalism, national discourses and national identity. finally, the importance of living in a country is highlighted as the best way to understand, in daily life, the matrix that provides the images and words of its national discourse.
La república, más allá de la vieja patria y de la nación posible: Incitación a la discusión republicana
Mejía,Sergio;
Revista de Estudios Sociales , 2011,
Abstract: this article seeks to stimulate thought around the language we use in social sciences and in colombian public fields when speaking about colombia; in other words, to promote thought, debates, and proposals about the country in general. i propose bringing the notion of the republic to the forefront, and abandoning the use -? except in specific cases -? of the notions of patria (homeland), and nation. the notion of republic refers to a geographic field of law, certainly in constant construction, but completely tangible, applicable, and susceptible of being discussed with regard to its validity, reform, application, or infraction. the notion of republic opens possibilities of critical thought regarding history, social sciences, humanities, law, and art, and simultaneously leads to responsible and pertinent discussions in the public field. at the same time, the word patria was used in the origins of the republic to invoke in its favor feelings of local belonging forged in previous centuries and which are today extemporaneous. the term nation, in highly inequitable societies such as colombia's, refers to a project set in the future, and it is not uncommon to find the expression "construction of a nation". as a category of social analysis, the term has limited reach and its effect in critical thought is to create ambiguity and mystification. to demonstrate this i focus on two relatively recent books in which a debate between two general and opposite perceptions of colombia is tacitly started. this debate loses strength precisely because it is stated in terms of nation and not of republic. i am referring to the books of alfonso múnera, el fracaso de la nación (the failure of nation) (1998) and eduardo posada carbó, la nación so?ada (the dreamed nation) (2006).

CV3D – Reconstrucción tridimensional de imágenes tomográficas
Sergio Mejía,Juan Mejía
Iatreia , 2001,
Molecular Dynamics of Free and Graphite-Supported Pt-Pd Nanoparticles  [PDF]
Carlos Fernández-Navarro, Sergio Mejía-Rosales
Advances in Nanoparticles (ANP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/anp.2013.24044
Abstract:

The thermal characteristics of bimetallic Pt-Pd nanoparticles, both free and graphite-supported, were investigated through molecular dynamics simulations using quantum Sutton-Chen many-body potentials for the metal-metal interactions. The graphite substrate was represented as layers of fixed carbons sites and modeled with the Lennard-Jones potential model. The melting temperatures for bimetallic nanoparticles were estimated based on variations in thermodynamic properties such as potential energy and heat capacity. Melting temperatures of the nanoparticles were found to be considerably lower than those of bulk Pt and Pd. The Pt-Pd clusters exhibited a two-stage melting, where surface melting of the external atoms is followed by homogeneous melting of the internal atoms. The melting transition temperature was found to increase when the particle is on the graphite support, with an increase at least 180 K higher than that of the same-sized free nanoparticle. The results of the density distributions perpendicular to the surface indicate that the Pd atoms have a tendency to remain at the surface, and the Pd atoms wet the graphite surface more than the Pt atoms, while root mean squares suggest that surface melting starts from the cluster surface, and surface melting was seen in both free and graphite-supported nanoparticles. Structural changes accompanying the thermal evolution were studied by the bond-orientational order parameter method.

LA NOCIóN DE HISTORICISMO AMERICANO Y EL ESTUDIO DE LAS CULTURAS ESCRITAS AMERICANAS
Mejía Macía,Sergio;
Historia Crítica , 2009,
Abstract: i introduce the notion of american historicism as a tool to study written culture in the four principal american traditions of letters: hispanic american, brazilian, haitian, and north american. i call attention to the rich collection of writing on the american republics. history was the predominant genre in republican libraries and the apogee of written representation in the first century following independence. i discuss the need to carry out research-oriented collections of american histories and argue for their critical study today. these republican histories still have not been studied in terms of their communalities: the shared need throughout the continent to narrate, describe, comment, and legitimate the new american republics. only by critically studying republican libraries will we be able to appropriate the rich traditions of american writing. and only then will we have achieved a state of culture that has enough confidence to cite itself.
