Literatura e identidad cultural
Mansilla Torres,Sergio;
Estudios filológicos , 2006, DOI: 10.4067/S0071-17132006000100010
Abstract: it is often said that literature not only represents the cultural identity of the community from which it emerges, but also literature itself creates identity. we believe that the correlation literature-identity, in order to become productive in literary and cultural terminology, has to be inscribed in a political horizon of comprehension; by doing this so long as the claim of identity and, above all, the claim for a textual literary practice that present identity, problems would not be but, in the end, a political practice of visibility that implies defying ideologies and discourse complacence with "official" stereotypes and with the radical negation of the subaltern subject from instances of domination. we begin from the suposition that identifying effects, belonging to literature (or that can be reclaimed by literature), have to do more with non-identity than with identity, with the absent and the possible aspects that it is materialized as at "presence" through literary memory or imagination that construct the "other history of history"
?PARA QUé POESíA EN TIEMPOS DE DESIGUALDAD?: IMAGINACIóN, MEMORIA Y POLíTICA DE LA ESCRITURA EN EL CONTEXTO DE LA "CULTURA DE MERCADO" EN EL CHILE DEL BICENTENARIO
Mansilla Torres,Sergio;
Alpha (Osorno) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22012010000100006
Abstract: a significant portion of chilean poetry seems to have substituted authentic liricism for a hypertrophy of the metapoetical, which correlates with the high degree of specialization of writing. this specialization occurs less as forms of vanguard or post-vanguard (re)writings, and more as a sociocultural consequence of the clouding of the political and historical horizon; a clouding that makes a poetic imagination without reference to reality possible and sustainable. on the contrary, writings whose rhetoric transmutes cultural memories of a specific territorialized community, function in order to assure that the poetry not be the end in and of itself, but the medium through which to read/write "strongly" history, the world.
CUANDO LA MEMORIA POéTICA DOCUMENTA LA HISTORIA NO TODO LO SóLIDO SE DESVANECE EN EL AIRE: (En torno a Nada queda atrás de Carlos Trujillo y Milton Rogovin)
Mansilla Torres,Sergio;
Alpha (Osorno) , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22012009000100004
Abstract: nada queda atrás is a book of documentary photographs and poetry. the photograghs, shot by milton rogovin in 1967, in quemchi on the island of chiloé, are today documents which record history and denounce the empoverished conditions in which the fishermen and farmers then lived in chiloé. the poems, written by carlos trujillo, 37 years later in the united status are, on the one hand, poetic testimonies of the personal and collective memory that the photographs suggest; memories which, in turn, become an imaginary (re)construction of the cultural identity of chiloé lived by the poet, as a particular experience of foreignity and absence. the poetic texts are, then, derivations of the photographic document, but at the same time they are symbols with which to read/see the photos as metaphors of a profound chiloé of olden times and today. seen as such, the book is literally a document of of culture and barbarism: culture as a recognition of the ethics and aesthetics of the “forgotten,” and barbarism as that same recognition reveals stories of postponement and inequality.

Mansilla Torres,Sergio;
Alpha (Osorno) , 2004, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22012004000200004
Abstract: in this article key aspects on the poetic world of chilean writer delia domínguez are discussed: transcended rurality, memoirs on german ancestors, natives and spaniards, intercultural, feminist, peasant effects pertaining to delia domínguez′s poetry. within this framework, historical and sociological references are analyzed. these references have to do with chile′s southern farming setting where the poet was born, raised and lived up to her teenage years. all of this is crucial when analyzing delia domínguez′s poetics in accordance with the author of this article.

Mansilla Torres,Sergio;
Alpha (Osorno) , 2006, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22012006000200002
Abstract: the archipelago of chiloe, in the last 30 years -due to the massive increase of fishing industry and the introduction of a growing market economy on the islands- has suffered important cultural transformations. these changes have challenged the continuity of chiloe's traditional culture, which comes from the colonial period. this paper presents some of the present dilemmas and transformations of the archipelago's cultural identity and discusses its cultural implications.
Mutaciones culturales de Chiloé: los mitos y las leyendas en la modernidad neoliberal isle?a
Mansilla Torres, Sergio;
Convergencia , 2009,
Abstract: the conflict between cultural tradition and modernity on the islands of chiloé, chile, intensified at the beginning of the decade of 1980, when chiloé became a centre of aquiculture production for large-scale export, it renews, in the early xxi century, the foundational myth of the islands: ten-ten vilú, the serpent of the land, who defends humans, and cai-cai vilú, the serpent of the seas, who wishes to exterminate them. chiloé finds itself, if not in a refoundational stage, in one of profound mutations in its identity; a stage in which, once again, as in mythological origins, apparently irreconcilable forces are confronted, tensioning the chilote ways of being, living and dreaming.
SOBRE EL SUJETO LíRICO MESTIZO: UNA APROXIMACIóN A LA SUBJETIVIDAD EN LA POESíA DE LAS MEMORIAS CULTURALES
Mansilla Torres,Sergio;
Revista chilena de literatura , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22952011000100004
Abstract: this essay discusses, based on the elaborations on the lyric subject by polish theorist, janusz slawinski, the constitutive aspects of the mestizo lyric subject, from the perspective of poetic writings which frame their aesthetic project in cultural memory as one of their central axes. the objective is to propose a general aproximation to a subjectivity which can be characterized, in principle, as mestizo in lyric poetry, taking as a point of reference the criteria delineated by fran?ois laplantine and alexis nouss to lineate what currently can be considered mestizaje.

LUGARES QUE HACEN PALABRAS: UNA LECTURA DE SIMBóLICO RETORNO DE DELIA DOMíNGUEZ Places that make words: A Reading of Simbólico retorno, by Delia Domínguez
Sergio Mansilla Torres
Alpha (Osorno) , 2012,
We propose a reading of Simbólico retorno, 1955, Delia Domínguez’s first book, in the interest of offering an evaluation of the aesthetic representation of Chile’s deep south living nature and of the feminine lyric subject which inhabits it and lives it, as an experience of plenitude that contrasts with the familial and social orphanhood. The elegiac and somber tone of the text, testifies of the author’s pain due to the early loss of her mother, a pain that feeds a certain anticipatory cision of decadence of her social class and origin: the gemanic agrarian bourgeoisie of the south of Chile of that time.
