Abstract: this study examines the relationship between strategic management practices of organizational knowledge of three banking institutions comprising their capability differentials. the research method employed was a comparative case study among public, national private and international banks. the results demonstrated that: rather than being something new, knowledge management is rooted in existing practices. the practices of strategic management of organizational knowledge in the banking organizations studied contributed to the development of capability differentials. due to a persisting view of management closely tied to the tactic-operational budget, not unlike that of management by objectives, the "strategic view of business" was the least evidenced of the capacity differentials. practices were employed to manage competence. strategic maps represent an advance and allow strategies and different customer-value propositions of the banks to be highlighted. the research corroborated the findings of a previous study in which a group integrated its corporate strategy into the competence-building process.
Internationalization and diversification strategies of agricultural cooperatives: a quantitative study of the agricultural cooperatives in the state of Parana

Abstract: this study investigates the impact of internationalization on the results achieved by agricultural cooperatives in the state of parana, at the same time examining strategies for diversification of markets as well as diversification of products aimed exclusively at international markets. of the 28 cooperatives to be included in the study, 67.9% returned valid structured questionnaires. the collected data was submitted to non-parametric statistical analysis. key findings suggest the following: external markets are served by indirect and direct exports; product diversification strategies are motivated by the creation of revenue alternatives to members and by the reduction of risks associated to agricultural business; diversification strategies are conceived to develop new business in accordance with market demand and to expand customized products from the existing portfolio; the formation of strategic alliances prioritizes access to distribution channels abroad; internationalization and diversification strategies produce positive results both from an economic and a social perspective.

Abstract: the aim of this work is to identify the existing relations in network among researchers that have participated in the enanpad of 1999. the specific purpose is to identify network parameters used as instruments of research productivity, and to evaluate these parameters for the formation of informal researchers groups. this paper may be classified as an exploratory research. the instrument was a questionnaire sent by e-mail in order to get the perception of the researchers in january and february 1999. a total of 74 answers obtained represented 27% of the foreseen population. the data point out the following consideration, among others: there is little participation in research network, despite the common and systematic use of internet as a working instrument; the main restrictions were identified as cultural and behavioral. the network relations perform important results in research productivity. the networks are small and the relations are mainly professional and social, and the participation has been identified as an important instrument of learning about research behavior, method and content.

Abstract: Muitos pesquisadores, cujo objeto de investiga o s o as redes de organiza es, se preocupam em analisar como as redes limitam e orientam as a es das organiza es que as comp em. Dessa forma, suas preocupa es se dirigem aos aspectos da rede que aumentam ou restringem a habilidade de certas organiza es em modelar o desempenho industrial. Ao mesmo tempo, porém, os administradores se envolvem em manobras estratégicas que lhes possam assegurar posi es-chave na rede de suas indústrias. Essa perspectiva traz novo caráter aos estudos das redes de organiza es, pois, se antes s o as redes que ordenam as a es dos administradores, as a es destes últimos também acabam por definir a estrutura da própria rede. O objetivo deste artigo é contribuir para o melhor entendimento da dinamica de constru o e muta o das redes de organiza es. Tal empreitada é levada a cabo analisando-se dois grupos siderúrgicos nacionais, Gerdau e CSN, e suas redes de diretorias interalocadas de propriedade no período de 1988 a 1999.

Abstract: Este trabalho busca compreender de que forma as estratégias de competi o e de colabora o existentes nas associa es de produtores rurais influenciam os resultados individuais e coletivos obtidos pelos produtores participantes. A metodologia utilizada é de natureza descritiva com abordagem qualitativa em multinível em estudo múltiplo de casos. Os três casos referem-se à associa o de produtores de uvas e vinhos, de produtores organicos e uma abordagem integrada de nove associa es de linhas. Os níveis de análise referem-se aos associados, às associa es e às institui es e empresas envolvidas com as associa es. Como instrumento de coleta de dados utilizou-se de entrevistas com uso de roteiro semiestruturado, da observa o n o participante e da análise documental. Para o tratamento dos dados foi utilizada a análise de conteúdo e para a análise dos dados a tabula o em categorias. O principal resultado deste estudo demonstra como as estratégias de competi o e de colabora o existentes nas associa es de produtores rurais influenciam os resultados individuais e coletivos obtidos pelos produtores participantes. This work seeks to comprehend in what manner competitive and collaborative strategies influence the individual and collective results obtained by producers participating in rural producer associations. The methodology used is of a descriptive nature with a multilevel qualitative approach to multiple case studies. The three cases included in the study are an association of grape and wine producers, an association of organic producers, and an integrated approach to nine road line associations. The levels of analysis consist of the associates, the associations, as well as the institutions and businesses involved with the associations. Data was collected using semi-structured script interviews, non-participant observation, and historical document analysis. The data was tabulated into categories and subjected to content analysis. The primary result of this study demonstrates how competitive and collaborative strategies influence individual and collective results obtained by producers participating in rural producer associations.

Abstract: Este ensaio discute o papel do administrador como mediador entre os prop 3sitos organizacionais e as representa § μes que dela se faz. Procura-se tratar do saber na sociedade contempor ¢nea, ou mais especificamente o saber sobre organiza § μes, identificando que representa § μes existem sobre estes fen ′menos. Na primeira parte s £o apresentados os conceitos fundamentais, tais como, a diferencia § £o entre sentidos e significados; e o papel da teoria enquanto conjunto de pressupostos que s £o utilizados pelos administradores enquanto instrumentos de pesquisa e de trabalho. Em seguida, descrevem-se as principais referencias anal -ticas sobre o conceito de administrar a partir da contribui § £o de diferentes paradigmas meta-teoricos da organiza § £o em aproxima § £o com o conceito de complexidade. O conceito desempenho em estudos organizacionais e estratégia: um modelo de análise multidimensional

Abstract: a multi-dimensional analytical model of organizational performance concept, developed on the basis of previous models, was used to accomplish a comparative, categorical, cross-national, longitudinal, descriptive-quantitative and inferential-qualitative content-analysis of brazilian and foreign empirical studies from organizational studies and strategy areas, published from 2005 to 2007. it was concluded that this new model applies to empirical research analysis, being distinguished from previous models in terms of greater exaustivity and exclusivity of its categories of analysis. particularly, the new model constitutes an advance because it includes categories of analysis related to attribution patterns and causal interaction. comparative analysis of brazilian and foreign researches revealed (a) preference for unidimensional performance indicators from economic-financial-marketing areas and from a rational theoretical perspective; (b) preference for secondary and objective data, from organizational level of analysis and not-cumulative comparative retrospective static temporal perspective; and (c) preference for research designs that estimate direct and horizontal multilinear relations between the variables, in which performance is used as a dependent variable.
Práticas sociais estratégicas e resultados acadêmicos: o doutorado em administra o na USP e na UFRGS Strategic social practices and academic results: a doctorate in management at USP and UFRGS

Abstract: Este trabalho teve como objetivo identificar as práticas sociais que sustentam resultados acadêmicos superiores em dois programas de doutorado em administra o: USP e UFRGS. Utiliza como indicador de resultados acadêmicos a avalia o trienal da Capes (2004-2007). Emprega uma abordagem epistemológica interpretativa e social construtivista e tem como orienta o teórica a corrente conhecida como estratégia como prática social. O referencial teórico é constituído de dois tópicos que discutem: a estratégia como prática social; pós-gradua o stricto sensu e doutorado em administra o no Brasil. A pesquisa empírica foi de natureza qualitativa e se constitui em uma análise comparativa de casos. Entre os principais resultados da pesquisa, evidencia-se que determinadas características e atividades da coordena o, dos doutorandos e dos professores s o relevantes, como: comprometimento e dedica o, por parte dos doutorandos; valoriza o da pesquisa e estar em contato com o mundo real das organiza es, por parte dos professores; coordenar o programa e proporcionar incentivos com base nas métricas da Capes, por parte da coordena o dos cursos. Com rela o às práticas coletivas, destaca-se a atua o de todos os atores em grupos de pesquisa e com produ o científica em conjunto. This study aims to identify the social practices that support higher academic achievement in two doctoral programs in management: USP, UFRGS. Using as an indicator of academic achievement the Capes (2004-2007) indicators and as epistemological approach interpretationism. The theoretical background is the social constructivist with the framework known as the current strategy as social practice consisting of two topics, post-graduate and doctorate management programs in Brazil. The empirical research was qualitative and constitutes a comparative analysis of two cases. The most important results of this research shows that certain characteristics and activities of the coordination, the professors and the doctoral students are important, such as: commitment and dedication of the students; enhancement of research and be in touch with the real world of organizations as an important role of the professors, provide incentives based on metrics from Capes, by the coordination of the courses. With respect to collective practices, highlight the importance of all actors in the research groups.
