Systematic analysis of diabetes- and glucose metabolism-related proteins and its application to Alzheimer’s disease  [PDF]

Abstract:

Alzheimer disease has been defined as Type 3 Diabetes due to their shared metabolic profiles. Like our previously research, results of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, systematic analysis of diabetes- and glucose metabolism-related proteins also provides help in the treatment of Alzheimer’s patients. Some interesting results indicate that diabetes-related proteins (DRPs) are rich in Lys and the content of Trp can distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus in particular, while glucose metabolism-related proteins (GMRPs) possess Leurich and Trp-poor character. Moreover, the usage biases of codons depend on GC contents to a great extent, in concord with all codons of the highly expressed genes with the terminal of C/G. Especially, the deficit of CpG dinucleotides is largely attributed to the hypermutability of methylated CpGs to UpGs by the mutational pressure. Besides a common node insulin receptor, there are some similar node proteins, such as glucose transporter member, protein tyrosine phosphatase, and adipose metabolism signal protein. The sharing proteins involve glucagon, amylin, insulin, PPARγ, angiopoietin, PC-1/ENPP1, and adiponectin mediated signal pathway. Meanwhile, the gene sequences of node proteins contained the binding sites of 37 transcription factors divide into four kinds of superclasses. Additionally, BAD complex can integrate pathways of glucose metabolism and apoptosis by BH3 domain of BAD directly interacting with GK as well as GK binding with the consensus motif [G]-[1]-[K]-[2]-[S/T] or [L/M]-[R/K]-[2]-[T] of PP1 or WAVE1. This facilitates the therapies for diabetes mellitus as well as Alzheimer’s disease.

Abstract: Mining in India has developed haphazardly with a significant part of mining activities being informal or unauthorised. Open cast quarries, coal washeries, thermal power plants, coke-oven plants, etc., contribute to serious air and water pollution. The aim of this paper is to assess the QoL of residents living in Jharia coalfield. In this study, QoL domains are analysed considering the social, cultural, environmental, health and economic condition of the study areas. A path model has been developed to analyse the cascading effect on domains. The purpose of investigating path model with overall quality of life was to contribute to the subjective wellbeing literature by analyzing the predictors of OQoL in the sample population. Therefore, OQoL was used as the dependent variable of a regression analysis using four domains as variables and leveraging path analysis method to arrive at the causal model.

Abstract: A new hybrid projection algorithm is considered for a -strict asymptotically pseudocontractive mapping. Using the metric projection, a strong convergence theorem is obtained in a uniformly convex and 2-uniformly smooth Banach spaces. The result presented in this paper mainly improves and extends the corresponding results of Matsushita and Takahashi (2008), Dehghan (2011) Kang and Wang (2011), and many others.
Supercapacitor-battery hybrid energy storage devices from an aqueous nitroxide radical active material

Abstract: A hybrid electrochemical energy storage device was fabricated in aqueous NaOH with the 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy (TEMPO) nitroxide radical as the active material, hydroquinone as the counter electrode active material, and an OH -selective separating membrane. The working principle of this device was investigated and it can be considered as a supercapacitor-battery hybrid energy storage system. Device performance was characterized by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge testing. When using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as electrode support materials, a high pseudo-capacitance of 1280 F g 1 was obtained with the TEMPO nitroxide radical as the active material at a 1 mV s 1 scan rate. This was ~33 times larger than the inherent double layer capacitance of MWCNTs. The electrode material and active material dissolved in solution could potentially be substituted with similar materials. This simple design provides a new approach for fabricating high performance supercapacitor-battery hybrid energy storage devices.

Abstract: Virtual Home Environment ( VHE) is an important concept in NGN. According to the requirements and features of VHE, this paper proposes a system architecture to realizing this concept and gives functional elements design of this architec-ture. Then service provision and some mechanisms for supporting VHE in this architecture are introduced. Finally a J2EE based prototype system is developed and discussed.

Abstract: Industrial control Ethernet networks are more important in connecting with equipments each other of enterprise comprehensive automation and integrating information. With the explosive growth of network techniques, the traditional control networks can no longer satisfy the security demands on network connectivity, data storage and information exchanges. New types of networks emerged in recent years in order to provide solutions for the increasing requirements on networked services. We propose a trust evaluation model for industrial control Ethernet network. Our study shows the importance and necessity of applying theoretical analyses to understand the complex characteristics of trusted industrial control Ethernet networks.

Diagnosis and Therapy of Bronchopulmonary Carcinoid Tumors

Abstract: Bronchopulmonary carcinoid tumors are relatively uncommon neoplasms and typically benign and slow growing. However, more aggressive subtypes may develop early nodal and distant metastases. The clinical presentation allows prediction of the diagnosis and cell type and directs evaluation and treatment. Young age, central tumor, and no nodal enlargement are highly suggestive of typical carcinoid. These patients require no further diagnostic or staging tests beyond chest computed tomography and bronchoscopy before resection. For a high suspicion of atypical carcinoid (central cN2, peripheral cN1,2), imaging for distant, metastases and mediastinoscopy is suggested, with multimodality treatment for an atypical carcinoid with N2 involvement. Because these tumors are generally resistant to chemotherapy, complete surgical resection is the primary form of therapy. Long-term survival for patients with typical carcinoid is excellent but is decreased in those with the atypical subtype. Complete tumor resection with preservation of uninvolved pulmonary parenchyma remains the fundamental goal in the surgical treatment of this unusual clinical entity.
One Case of Multiple Inflammatory Pseudotumor in Both Lungs

Abstract: Inflammatory pseudotumor was a kind of rare benign tumor of the lung, whose incidence was only about 0.7% in all kinds of tumors of the lung. Multiple inflammatory pseudotumor in both lungs were rare, which were often misdiagnosed to metastatic tumor or disseminated pulmonary tuberculosis. The literature reports were scarce too. This report introduces one case of multiple inflammatory pseudotumor in both lungs that we met in clinical works, and discusses the diagnosis and treatment of it.
Ginsenoside Rg3 inhibit hepatocellular carcinoma growth via intrinsic apoptotic pathway

Abstract: AIM: To investigate the anti-tumor function of ginsenoside Rg3 on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in vitro and in vivo, and its mechanism. METHODS: Hep1-6 and HepG2 cells were treated by Rg3 in different concentrations (0, 50, 100 and 200 μg/mL) in vitro. After incubation for 0, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h, cell viability was measured by 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. Apoptosis was identified by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling. Caspase-3 activity was measured by chromophore p-nitroanilide and flow cytometry. Bcl-2 family proteins were ascertained by Western-blotting. Mitochondria membrane potential was detected by 5, 5’, 6’ 6’ - tetrachloro-1, 1’, 3, 3’ - tetraethylbenzimidazolylcarbocyanine iodide. Forty liver tumor-bearing C57Bl6 mice were divided randomly into 4 groups for intra-tumor injection of saline, ginsenoside Rg3, cyclophosphamide (CTX) and ginsenoside Rg3 + CTX combination. RESULTS: The survival time was followed up to 102 d. The mice in the Rg3 + CTX group showed significant increased survival time compared with those in the control group (P < 0.05). Rg3 could inhibit HCC cell proliferation and induce cell apoptosis in vitro in the concentration and time dependent manner. It also induced mitochondria membrane potential to decrease. Caspase-3 activation can be blocked by the inhibitor z-DEVD-FMK. Bax was up-regulated while Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL were down-regulated after Rg3 treatment. CONCLUSION: Our data suggested that Rg3 alone or combined with CTX inhibited tumor growth in vivo and prolonged mouse survival time by inducing HCC cell apoptosis via intrinsic pathway by expression alterations of Bcl-2 family proteins.
