Segalla, A. L.;
Bragantia , 1963, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051963000100009
Abstract: a series of three sugar cane variety trials was carried out from 1957 to 1959, at the following localities of the state of s?o paulo: 1) experiment station of ribeir?o prêto, and 2) usina tamoio, araraquara, both on terra-roxa soil types, and 3) usina ester, cosmópolis, on a terra-roxa-misturada glacial soil. the varieties given below were compared in a rectangular lattice for 30 treatments in 6 blocks of 5 units with 4 replications: q. 48, q. 49, eros, vesta, b. 37/161, b. 40/98, b. 41/227, n:co. 292, n:co. 293, n:co. 334, n:co. 339, cb. 37/44, cb. 44/87, cb. 44/90, cb. 44/105, cb. 46/40, cb. 46/47, cb. 47/8, cb. 47/107, cb. 47/114, cb. 47/164, cb. 47/296, cb. 48/12, cb. 49/15, cb. 49/129, cb. 49/227, ce. 50/66, co. 419, cb. 40/69 and cb. 41/76. two harversts (plant cane and one stubhe) were made each of the three tests statistical analysis was made of cane and sugar yields of the first harvest as well as of the sum of the two harvests. the results showed that the varieties cb. 49/15; n:co. 334 and cb. 44/105 gave good yields in the three tests, which recommend them for further tests, but the sugar content of th cb. 49/15 was very sactisfactory.
Variedades de cana-de-a?úcar: III - Série de ensaios realizados no período de 1955 a 1958
Segalla, A. L.;
Bragantia , 1961, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051961000100005
Abstract: a new series of five sugar cane variety trials was carried out from 1955 to 1958, at the following localities in the state of s?o paulo: (1 fazenda santa escolástica, araras, on levra-roxa soil type; 2) usina santa elisa, sert?ozinho, and 3) unina tam?io, araraqnara, both on terra-roxa-misturada soil; 4) usina p?rto feliz, p?rto feliz, on the terra-roxa-místurada glacial soil, and 5) usina itaiquara, tapiratiba, on the massapê-salmour?o soil. the varieties given below were compared in randomized blocks with 12 treatments and 4 replications: cp.44/101, co.290. co.301, co.419, cb.36/14, cb.40/11, cb.40/35, cb.40/46, cb.41/14, cb.41/18, cb.41/58, cb.41/61 and cb.45/3. three harvests (plant cane and two stubbles) were made in cach of the five tests. statistical analysis was made of cane and sugar yields of the first harvest, as well as of the sum of the three harvests. the results allowed the following conclusions: a) the variety cb .45/3 gave the highest yields in cane tonnage and in sugar per area but, due to its susceptibility to smut, its growing in the state of s?o paulo is not permitted; b) the varieties cp.44/101 and cb.41/58 gave good yields; the first is of early maturity and has high sugar, content while cb.41/58 gives good cane tonnage, but it is late maturing; meanwhile we must take into consideration the high susceptibility of cp.44/101 to leaf-scald, which makes its planting inadvisable; c) the variety co.419, which is the most grown in the state of s?o paulo, gave some of the best yields in soils of good fertility, while in poor soils its yields were low; d) the varieties cb.40/35, cb.41/14 and co.301 gave regular yields; co. 301, yielded good cane tonnage, but its sugar content was not satisfactory; cb. 41/14 produced well at the usina itaiquara, being recommended for plantating in similar regions; e) the variety cb.41/76, tested only at the usina p?rto feliz, confirmed results obtained before, which classified it as one of the best varieties for the sta

Segalla, A. L.;Alvarez, R.;
Bragantia , 1957, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051957000100003
Abstract: sixteen varieties of sugar cane were tested in a sandy soil of "arenito de bauru" type at the usina miranda, presidente alves. three harvests were made (plant cane, 1st and 2nd stubble). cane and sugar yields of the first harvest alone and of the three harvests together were analysed statistically and gave the following indications: 1) of the 16 varieties tried, co.419, c.b.40/69, c.b.40/77, c.b.41/61, co.290, and c.b.41/70 gave the highest yields in cane tonnage and in sugar. co.421 is also a good yielder, but has hard, fibrous canes and a tendency for blossoming. 2) the varieties c.b.36/14 and c.b.41/18 can be used for sandy soils with certain restrictions. 3) the varieties c.p.29/291, c.p.27/139, co.413, c.b.40/19, i.a.c.34/553, i.a.c. 34/536, and p.o.j.2961 were not satisfactory and are not recommended for sandy soils similar to that of the present experiment. c.p.29/291 was highly susceptible to smut.
Ensaios de variedades de cana de a?úcar. I - série de ensaios realizados no período de 1951 a 1954
Segalla, A. L.;Alvarez, R.;
Bragantia , 1956, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051956000100028
Abstract: a series of four sugar cane variety trials was carried out from 1951 to 1954 at the following places in the state of s?o paulo: 1) usina junqueira, igarapava, in the "terra-roxa" type of soil; 2) usina p?rto feliz, p?rto feliz, and 3) fazenda pau-a-pique, capivari, both in "terra-roxa-misturada" soil; and 4) usina itaiquara, tapiratiba, in the "massapê-salmour?o" soil. four by four lattice squares with 5 replications were used in all laocations. the varieties tested were as follows: co. 290, co. 331, co. 413, co. 419, co. 421, cp. 27/139, cp. 29/137, cp. 29/291, cp. 34/120, tuc. 2645, p.o.j. 2961, i.a.c 34/373, i.a.c 34/536, i.a.c. 34/553, c.b. 38/1, and cb. 36/14. three harvests (plant cane and two stubble) were made in each of the four tests. statistical analysis was made of cane and sugar yields of the first harvest alone, and of the three harvests together. the results permitted the following conclusions: a) the varieties co. 290, co. 419, and cb. 36/14 gave good yields and were satisfactory under the conditions of the four experiments. they can be recommended rather widely for the state of s?o paulo. b) the varieties co. 421 and co. 413, especially the latter, did not do so well in the "massapê-salmour?o" soil, but they yielded as much as co. 290 in soils of higher fertility. c) the varieties cp. 27/139, three selections of i.a.c, and cp. 29/137 gave only fair results; cp. 27/139 was the best in this group. d) the varieties cb. 38/1, p.o.j. 2961, and tuc. 2645 were poor yielders and their use, therefore, is not recommended for the state.
Melhoramento da cana-de-a?úcar: I - Experiências com os ?seedlingss? obtidos em 1947, 1948 e 1949
Segalla, A. L.;Alvarez, R.;
Bragantia , 1964, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051964000100017
Abstract: as a result of breeding work carried out by the sugar cane department along the years 1947, 1948 and 1949, quite a lot of seedlings had been obtained, after several selections. this considerable number of seedlings was then studied with the purpose of determining which of them could be qualified so as to be considered as new varieties. to this effect two series of experiments were conducted at the factories santa elisa, tamoio, ester and p?rto feliz, all of them on soil of the type ?terra-roxa-misturada?. the first series of experiments was established in 1954 having co. 290 as control, a variety which was the most planted by then. after the second harvest in 1956, these experiments were brought to an end, since co. 290 showed then a rather severe decrease in production so that it could no longer meet the conditions for which it had been used initially. due to this, a second series had to be started where just those seedlings were used that had outstanding qualities in the first series. thus, they were planted in 1957 at the same localities as the first series of experiments, but this time a design was used of a balanced lattice 5x5 with 6 replications. as controls were used the varieties cb 41/76, co. 419 and cb 40/69 which were then the most recommended for the state of s?o paulo. for each experiment three harvests were made, plant cane, first and second ratoons. from the results obtained it was found that the variety co. 419 gave small yields pretty lower than those of cb 41/76 and cb 40/69; the seedlings known as 49/131, 48/65 and 47/31 showed in general rather high yields in comparison to the controls; s 47/13, in spite of its productions not being in all cases higher than those of the two cb controls, showed a high content in sugar, whereas on the other hand, s 49/3, although with the best productions in tonnage of cane, didn not satisfay with regard to its sugar content. the other seedlings under study did not deserve any interest. as new varieties just the f

Sobre la oviposición de Chiasmocleis leucosticta (Boulenger, 1888) (Anura: Microhylidae)
Segalla, Magno V.,Langone, José A.
