Al Ghazali and Hume on causation and miracles
Sedat Yazc
International Journal of Human Sciences , 2010,
Abstract: This paper is an attempt to show the similarities and differences between Al Ghazali and Hume on causation and miracles. Such a comparison is interesting because, long before Hume, the issue of necessary causality had been taken up by the Islamic philosophers Al Ghazal in his book The Incoherence the Philosophers. Although Ghazali's and Hume's views on causation are strikingly parallel to one another in their empirical contention, there are still some differences to be noted. First, both reject the view that the connection between causes and effects is of logical necessity. However, to give an ultimate reason for the theory of causality, unlike Hume, Ghazali makes a reference to God. For Hume, we cannot give an ultimate justification for the theory of causality. Second, while Ghazali aimed to reject the necessary causality in order to account for the occurrence of miracles, Hume, on the contrary, used his theory of causality to reject the claim that miracle can occur. In particular, I argue whether Hume's position allows logical possibility of the occurrence of miracle.
A study of the validity and reliability of the Patriotism Attitude Scale
Fatih Yazc,,Sedat Yazc
International Journal of Human Sciences , 2010,
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of Turkish version of the Patriotism Attitude Scale (PAS) developed by Schatz, Staub and Lavine (1999). The study of the PAS was conducted on 490 undergraduate students at Gaziosmanpa a University. For the exploratory factor analysis of the validity of the scale, factor loadings of the blind patriotism and the constructive patriotism factors were found between .331-.645, and .570-.792 respectively. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis for the goodness of fit statistics were computed as RMSEA= ,078; RMR=,080; SRMR=,071; GFI=,90; AGFI=,87; CFI=,81. The Cronbach’s Alpha for the internal consistency coefficient was found .76 for the blind patriotism, .77 for the constructive patriotism, and .75 for the PAS. In line of the findings obtained in this study, the PAS can be considered as a valid and reliable instrument for the blind and constructive patriotism attitudes.

Open Journal of Political Science (OJPS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojps.2016.63027
Abstract: This paper examines the profile of the PKK (Kurdish Workers’ Party) and distinguishes Kurdish issue from terrorism in Turkey. PKK’s profile has changed depending on Turkey’s internal politics under AK Party governments as well as the changing international environment particularly in Syria and demands a federation of Kurds that is independent Kurdistan in southeastern Turkey. The first part of this article addresses the objectives of the PKK and its violence and terrorism in pursuit of Kurdish secession from the Republic of Turkey leading to thousands of military and civilian deaths over the past decades. The second part assesses the problem focusing on whether PKK truly represents Kurds in Turkey. The third section tries to answer the question of who provides the logistical and financial support for PKK since it is still controversial whether the US and the EU both classify the PKK as a terrorist organization ingenuously. The last section evaluates political solution to the PKK problem, which is now being voiced in both Turkey and Western countries particularly in US.

International Journal of Human Sciences , 2009,
Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine adequacy of new 6th Years Elementary Mathematics Curriculum which was introduced in 2006. The determination consisted of attainability of objectives with suitability of patterns to structure of mathematics in the objectives. Experimental design was used in the study. The study carried out from a total of 120 students as experiment (60) and control (60) group. Mathematics lessons plans and the selected methods with respect to new program have been applied to the experiment group while the control group does their ordinary works in mathematics. As a result; students’ achievement both in mean success and achievement level in experiment group are higher than the control group. Both groups’ overall successes (0.56 and 0.36) were not satisfactory (≤0.75). Thus, it can be said that both groups were not able to attain aimed targets with unconvinced teaching and learning process.

In this century, occupied two times by the English and once bythe Iranians supported by the Russians, Afghanistan conducted a greatcampaign in order to secure its independence at every turn. In 1921,gaining independence from England it retrieved the status of being aseparate state. However, on this occasion it was exposed to Russianmenace from the North and after frequent interventions it was rendered acountry where unsteadiness dominated. anakkale Sava ’nda Türk Kad n n n Rolü
Nevin Yazc
Journal of Gazi Academic View , 2011,
Abstract: During the anakkale War, known as the Gallipoli Campaign, Turkish women, while fighting against the enemy in the frontline, supported all the efforts through numerous activities they carried out all over the country. However, the basic roles played by them were mainly supportive ones such as providing health service and cloth support, collecting aid through societies and creating public opinion. Activities carried out by Turkish women in the fields of military, economy, social and cultural life during the anakkale War enabled them to assume a more active role in the War of Indepence, thereby making women an integral component, a modern and complementary part of the society.
A Modified Technique to Facilitate Anastomosis in Choledochal Cyst  [PDF]

International Journal of Clinical Medicine (IJCM) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/ijcm.2010.12013
Abstract: The method of choice for the treatment of choledochal cysts in children is excision of the cyst and Roux-en-Y (RY) choledochoenterostomy. When the ratio of the diameter of the main hepatic ductus to that of the proximal RY jejunum is 1:2.5 or lower during choledochoenterostomy, end-to-end anastomosis is recommended. However, this method may cause a difference in diameters between the ends. Here we will present the technical difficulty we experienced due to the difference in diameters in end-to-end RY choledochoenterostomy and our modified anastomosis technique of anas¬tomosis. This slight modification eliminated problems with anastomosis caused by a difference in the diameter of the jejunum and shortened operation time.
Treatment of Acute Stent Thrombosis with Tirofiban after Percutaneous Saphanous Graft Intervention
Yazc? M et al.
Konuralp Tip Dergisi , 2011,
Abstract: ABSTRACTPatients with previous CABG may require repeat revascularization procedures due to progression of atherosclerotic disease in the native coronary arteries and/or the bypass grafts. Repeat grafting is complicated by increased morbidity and mortality and has a worse clinical outcome than a first bypass operation. Thus, increasing numbers of publications recommend percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) for graft vessels. In parallel, it is also reported that distal embolization, coronary slow flow, or no-reflow phenomena rates are high in intervened vessels. Death, myocardial infarction (MI), and need for second revascularization are also reported to occur frequently. There is not an agreement on a certain treatment for reflow phenomenon occurring in grafts. In this case, we discussed the treatment of acute thrombosis no reflow occurring during graft vascularization in the light of a case which developed acute stent thrombosis after primary percutaneous intervention to saphenous vein graft which disappeared after tirofiban infusion.
Evaluation of Lipid Parameters in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis
Yazc? S et al.
Konuralp Tip Dergisi , 2009,
Abstract: Aim: In this study, it was investigated levels of serum lipid parameters in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and the association between these parameters and disease activity markers.Material and Method: 46 patients with RA diagnosed and 31 healthy people as a control group were included in this study. Duration of disease ranged from 0 to 12 years (mean 4,2 ± 4,3 years). In both groups serum total cholesterol (TK), triglyceride (TG), LDL-cholesterol (LDL-K), HDL-cholesterol (HDL-K) levels were analyzed. Also in RA group, serum high sensitive CRP (hsCRP), CRP, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and rheumatoid factor (RF) levels were analyzed. Results: In RA and control groups, serum TG levels were 134±76 mg/dl and 179±113mg/dl (p=0.310), serum TK levels were 176±36 mg/dl and 195±49 mg/dl (p=0.320), serum LDL-K levels were 103±33mg/dl and 116±41mg/dl (p=0.420), serum HDL-K levels were 50±15mg/dl and 47±12mg/dl (p=0.570). In correlation analysis, it was not found a significant correlation between any lipid parameters and CRP or ESR. Conclusion: As a result, it was found that lipid parameters of patients with RA were similar to healthy subjects’ values. In addition, it was not found a significant correlation between any lipid parameters and diseases activity markers such as CRP and ESR.
Attitude of the healthcare workers to violence against women
Saadet Yazc,Rojin Mamuk
Medical Journal of Bakirk?y , 2010,
Abstract: Objective: Violence against women is a common social problem. Gender inequality is origin of the violence against women. Health workers have responsibilities in supplying medical care, support and counseling to the mistreated of the violence. This descriptive study was planned for the purpose to determine attitude of the healthcare workers to violence against women. Material and Methods: In this research, 94 healthcare workers from seven different types of hospital (4 public hospitals, 2 private hospitals, one university hospital) in stanbul have been contacted. Data were collected with a 34 item questionnaire prepared by the researcher. Percentage was used in the data analysis. Results: According to the research findings even 95.7% of the healthcare workers had indicated that the violence against the women is only “harmfull physical action against the women”. “What is the basis of violence against the women?” had been answered by 59.5% of the same healthcare workers as “This is due to the patriarchal society we live in.” Scary answer was that 61.7% of the same healthcare workers agreed that “to attempt to rape is women’s provocation” as is the general belief in society. Conclusion: It can be said that the approach of the healthcare workers is similar with the view and attitude related to women’s sexual role expectancy which is internalized by traditional cultures of Turks.
