Fast Impedance Spectroscopy Method for Insulating Layers with Very High Impedance
P. Schauer
Transactions on Transport Sciences , 2010, DOI: 10.2478/v10158-010-0005-1
Abstract: This paper presents the fast impedance spectroscopy method for objects with a very high impedance |Zx| ≥ 1GΩ modeled by RC networks. The method is suitable for predicting the lifetime and reliability of insulating materials. The fast impedance spectroscopy method was tested on insulating layers which were part of the system metalinsulator-metal (MIM). The method is based on measurements of the power loss and phase shift in the AC voltage divider, which consists of the measured system MIM and of the known impedance. Computer controlled instruments measure the gain and phase shift between the two outputs of alternating electrical circuit and a computer program calculates the parameters of the impedance spectroscopy from these values. The output is the graphical and tabular impedance characteristics of the MIM system, namely: the dielectric loss of the insulating film, imaginary part of impedance, loss factor, parallel resistance Rp and the capacity Cp of the MIM system, all frequency dependent. Frequency characteristics provide an analysis of loss mechanisms that may affect the quality and reliability of the insulating layers.

Juvenile justice and psychology? the efficacy of psychological theory and research to support the juvenile justice discipline
Edward J. Schauer,Ila J. Schauer
Archivos de Criminología, Criminalística y Seguridad Privada , 2013,
Abstract: Although the study of Criminal Justice includes Juveniles, this inclusion is sketchy at best. The practioner may think that Criminal Justice and Juvenile Justice overlap, but Juvenile Justice is obviously missing from, or an add on to, most traditional Criminal Justice programs. Few would argue the difference in the psychological makeup of juveniles and adults, yet this difference is addressed to only a minor degree in such classes as "Juvenile Delinquency". A doctoral degree specifically established to target Juvenile Justice forms the foundation of the study of juvenile crime and its inherent problems. Such an academic discipline naturally begs a unique psychological emphasis, one with a crime-reduction paradigm.
The diagnostic challenge of mediastinal sarcoidosis accompanying esophageal cancer
Matthias Schauer, Joerg Theisen
World Journal of Surgical Oncology , 2010, DOI: 10.1186/1477-7819-8-15
Abstract: The incidence of sarcoidosis averages 1:10.000 in the western world [1]. A risk analysis of cancer from cohorts of Swedish patients with sarcoidosis showed, that the overall relative risk for cancer development is increased, especially the risk for cancer of the lung, stomach, small intestine, liver and skin [2]. The coincidence of sarcoidosis and oesophageal cancer is a rare event. Up until now five such cases were mentioned in the international literature [2].The documented cases describe the limitations of the possible staging procedures in patients with a thoracic neoplasia accompanied by sarcoidosis. Moreover, a feasible approach towards these cases is being proposed. In the year 2007, 283 patients with an adenocarcinoma of the gastro oesophageal junction (AEG) or an oesophageal cancer were admitted to our hospital. Two patients, aged 55 and 66, presented with an oesophageal cancer, a thoracic lymphadenopathy and sarcoidosis in their past medical history. The 55-year-old female patient with an adenocarcinoma of the cardia was referred to our hospital after neoadjuvant chemotherapy with cisplatin and 5-FU in Montenegro for a second opinion concerning the resectability of the tumour. In the past medical history a clinical unapparent sarcoidosis was known for the last ten years. The actual CT scan, the endoscopy and the endosonography showed an extensive tumour growth involving the oesophago-gastric junction and enlarged paraoesophageal, perihilar and paratracheal lymph nodes. Multiple small disseminated lesions of the lungs were unchanged compared to the initial CT scan half a year before (Figure 1 and 2). The parenchymal abdominal organs did not show any metastases.Since CT scan and FDG PET could not differentiate between oesophageal metastases and sarcoidosis of the lungs and the lymph nodes, a mediastinoscopy was performed for further information. Biopsies of the peritracheal lymph nodes showed a granulomatous inflammation with necrosis, consistent with sarcoido
