Time Course of Histomorphologic Features during Chronic Burn Wound Healing  [PDF]

Abstract: In forensic pathology, it is always indispensable to determine burn wound vitality or age to accurately assess the relationship between death and any burn wounds. Subsequently, the determination of wound age is a definitive and still cutting-edge subject in forensic pathology. Therefore, deep second-degree burn injuries were induced in a group of mice. At 7, 12, 17, 21 and 28 days post-burn, burn wound specimens were histomorphologically differentiated and compared with normal intact skin using H&E stain. The study revealed that the burn wound during healing process was usually incorporated of infiltration of inflammatory cells, granulation tissue formation and epithelialization within 7 - 12 days post-burn. Then, the surface of burn wound was partially ulcerated in association with epidermal necrosis, dermal disorganization and degeneration of the sebaceous gland 17 - 21 days post-burn. Finally, the regenerated skin retained the structure of normal skin at 28th day post-burn. Our study demonstrated that the histopathological changes of burn wounds involved deep dermis, and the pathological changes occurred at distinctive time phases were almost different in comparing to regular intact skin. Such age estimation of burn wounds is important when a cadaver or a burnt body has many burns of diverse times, especially in criminal cases.

Abstract: Dependency on deterministic design techniques without attention to inherent process variations and uncertainties in gear design and manufacturing processes can lead to unreliable results and affect the performance of a gearing system. A better understanding of the impact of uncertainty associated with the system input on the system output can be achieved by including reliability techniques to accomplish a reliable design methodology. This emerged the need to consider the probabilistic behavior of the stress distribution on the gear tooth during the design phase. The present effort reports on the application of the SSI theory within the context of a “Design for Reliability” approach in support a detailed gear design methodology for the evaluation the tooth-root strength with FEM-based verification. The SSI theory is formulated to predict the effect of the root fillet generated by a rack or hob tool with and without protuberance on the gear system reliability. The results obtained from the probabilistic analysis strongly agreed with the FEM’ results across a range of different gear tooth fillet profiles. A quantitative assessment of the investigated gear sets showed the highest tooth-root stress was associated with the lowest tip radius of the generating tool. This approach helps with making the decision by quantifying the impact of stress and strength variations during the gear design stage.

Abstract: Quenching the fluorescence of the dyes 3-(4’-dimethylaminophenyl)-1-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-one (DMAPrP), 3- (4’-dimethylaminophenyl)-1-(2-furanyl)prop-2-en-1-one (DMAFP) and 3-(4’-dimethylaminophenyl)-1-(2-thienyl)prop- 2-en-1-one (DMATP) has been investigated in the presence of silver cation and silver nanoparticles in different media. The results of the quenching experiments were analyzed using Stern-Volmer equation. Quenching the fluorescence of the dyes decreased with increasing medium viscosity. The Stern-Volmer constant (KSV) values in the absence and presence of ethylene glycol show that the quenching efficiencies decrease as the medium viscosity increases indicating that the quenching process is a diffusion-controlled process, and this is consistent with a dynamic-type quenching.

Abstract: Malate dehydrogenase, α-esterase and β-esterase isoenzymes have been analyzed by native polyacryla-mide gel electrophoresis in different tissues (liver, kidney, muscle and hump) of the Arabian Camel, Camelus dromedaries in order to study the tissue specificity of these isoenzymes. Malate dehy-drogenase recorded three fractions while both este-rases recorded two fractions in different studied tissues. Malate dehydrogenase was considered as a key isoenzyme in discriminating among the different studied tissues. The percentage amount of both Mdh-1 and Mdh-2 showed significant difference among the different tissues while Mdh-3 recorded significant variation between muscle and hump tissues. The significant variation in the amount of Mdh isoenzyme (on the level of either total or fractions) among the different studied tissues may reflect the role of this enzyme for energy production in this desert animal. With respect to esterases, the percentage amount for both fractions and the total enzyme did not show significant difference among different tissues except β-Est-2 which was significantly higher in hump than in muscle. This enzyme showed higher thickness and intensity in both liver and kidney than in the muscle and hump indicating its greater activity in both liver and kidney.

Abstract: Native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis have been applied for the analyses of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), malate dehydrogenase (Mdh) and malic (ME) isoenzymes in Arabian camel for racing and production. Two fractions for each of these isoenzymes have been recorded in the studied breeds. ALP showed very weak patterns without remarkable difference between the two breeds and this is an indication to that the samples used were healthy and being from the same age. The cytosolic Mdh-1 and ME-1 have been recorded in both camel breeds with high intensity. The mitochondrial Mdh-2 and ME-2 have been recorded with small intensity in production breeds commonly. The present data indicate the necessity of the mitochondrialMdh-2 for energy production in racing breed and the responsibility of the cytosolic Mdh-1 for lipogenesis and energy production in both breeds. We therefore may assume that the appearance of both Mdh forms is necessary for both energy and lipid production in the production breeds while Mdh-1 was useful as bioenergetic enzyme necessary for racing. The different expressions are indications of the difference in the physiological adaptations of both camel breeds and are not for a systematic value.

Abstract: In this paper, we shall show that the Hamiltonian structure can be defined for any nonlinear evolution equations which describe surfaces of a constant negative curvature, so that the densities of conservation laws can be considered as corresponding Hamiltonians. This paper obtains the soliton solution and conserved quantities of a new fifth-order nonlinear evolution equation by the aid of inverse scattering method.
Selenium Nanoparticles Ameliorative Effect on Acetaminophen Hepatotoxicity in Male Mice  [PDF]

Abstract: Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) have been widely used as anti-inflammatory and anti-toxic agent. The present study used Bacillus tequilensis for biosynthesizing SeNPs from sodium selenite (Na2SeO3) and investigated its ameliorative effects on acetaminophen (APAP) hepatotoxicity in male mice. The results indicated that Alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) significantly elevated in mice treated with APAP, while other liver markers (total proteins and albumin) did not change. SeNPs either alone or in combination with APAP showed ameliorative effects on liver enzymes to some extents where their activities decreased to be insignificant with those of normal group. A slight variation was shown in total antioxidant capacity (TAC). Histopathologically, the hepatocytes of the mice treated with APAP showed cloudy swelling and vacuolar degeneration, while those treated with SeNPs or both SeNPs and APAP appeared more or less histologically normal. In conclusion, SeNPs can be used to improve or replace today’s therapies of APAP hepatotoxicity.

Abstract: Reaction of N,N’-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal (DMFDMA) with malononitrile dimer 8 (1:1) mole afforded 9 while, this reaction when carried out in (2:1) mole to give amidine 11 which can be used for the preparation of pyrimidine 13, amidine 14 and pyridine 19 when reacted with 4-nitroaniline, 4-methylaniline and alkoxide respectively. Malononitrile dimer reacted with diazonium chloride to give pyridazine 21, which can be reacted with DMFDMA, AcOH/HCl and cyanoacetamide to give pyridazine 22, 23 and pyrido[4,3-c] pyridazine 24 respectively. The latter reacted with DMFDMA to afford tricyclic compound 25.
