STUDY OF EFFECT OF BHASTRIKA PRANAYAMA ON PULMONARY FUNCTION

Abstract: Yogic practices can be used as psycho-physiological stimuli to increase in physiological functions and human performance. Yoga breathing or Pranayama is the science of breath control. Rapid succession of forcible expulsion is a characteristic feature of Bhastrika Pranayama. To determine the effects of Bhastrika Pranayama on Vital Capacity of lung (PFT), sixty (n = 60) randomly selected volunteers to participate in the study from OPD of Government Ayurved College, Nanded, Maharashtra. These volunteers were subjected to the 12 week Pranayama training programme that includes “Bhastrika Pranayama”. The before after differences were assessed using the Student’s t-test for dependent data. The level of p < 0.05 was considered significant. The Pulmonary function significantly improved after 12 weeks of study comparing with base line values. Pranayama exercises are beneficial for the better maintenance of Pranavaha strotasa functions, particularly pulmonary functions, even in normal healthy.
A ROLE OF STARCH OF ELEUSIN CORACANA GAERTN. (RAGI SATWA) IN MANAGEMENT OF MALNUTRITION

Abstract: Malnutrition is the most wide spread condition affecting mainly health of children. It is defined as and appose; a pathological state resulting from a relative or absolute deficiency of one or more essential nutrients. Ragi is the common name of Finger Millet in Southern part of India. It is one of the most nutritious food and one of the easy one to digest. It is rich in calcium and protein and also has good amount of iron and other minerals. It is low in fat most of which are unsaturated fats. An open-label, prospective, interventional, and exploratory clinical trial was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of Ragi Satwa 3o patients suffering from mild to moderate malnutrition. Administration of “Ragi Satwa” for 90 days showed a significant increase in mean score of BMI, Agni, height for age, weight for height, mid arm circumference, weight for age & abdominal girth. It also enhanced biochemical parameters like Hb, RBCs, TLC, ESR, Sr. protein, Sr. albumin.
EVALUATION OF EFFICACY OF KARSHANIYA YAVAGU (AN AYURVEDIC PREPARATION) IN MANAGEMENT OF OBESITY

Abstract: Obesity is the most common metabolic disorder in affluent societies caused by excessive eating, lack of exercise and is a direct result of the modernization combined with lifestyle changes. It is the main underlying cause of life threatening diseases like Diabetes mellitus, Hypertension, Angina Pectoris, and Myocardial Infarction etc. In this study 60 patients were divided in two groups namely A and B. Group A was given Karshaniya Yavagu and Group B was given Placebo (Starch capsule) for 90 days in the OPD of Govt. Ayurved College, Nanded. Comparison of total effect of therapy on weight between two groups was statistically evaluated by chi square test. The Chi square value was 11.831 p<0.05, which was higher than the table value 7.82 (df=3) which suggested that there was significant difference between two groups.
STUDY OF PREVENTIVE EFFECT OF PRATIMARSHA NASYA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO ANU TAILAM (AN AYURVEDIC PREPARATION)

Abstract: Nasa (Nose) is considered as one among the panchagnanendriya, whose functions are not only limited to olfaction and respiration but also considered as a pathway for drug administration. Since it is described as nose is the gateway for the shiras. Nasya karma is the special procedure where the drug is administered through that gateway. The medicine that is put into nostril moves in the channels & shows influence on shiras by removing out the accumulated doshas localized in shiras i.e., from all sinuses in the skull. In ayurvedic texts Pratimarsha, a type of Nasya is indicated as a daily regimen to keep maintain health of Nasal passage. ‘Anu Tailam’ is classical oil, indicated in Ashtang Hridaya (an authoritative text) for various disorders of head, eyes, nose, ears and graying of hair. An open-label, placebo controlled, prospective, interventional, and exploratory clinical trial was carried out to evaluate the preventive effects of Anu Tailam. Experimental & placebo group contains 20 volunteers. Administration of Nasya therapy with “Anu tailam” for 30 days showed significant results on symptoms like tiredness, intensity of eyesight, capacity of senses, premature graying of hair, skin complexion. No considerable results obtained in placebo group.
Morphology and Spectral Behavior of Solar Hard X-Ray Sources

Abstract: Las imágenes de 17 fulguraciones solares, correspondiendo a 61 explosiones de rayos-X observados en cuatro rangos de energía (14-23, 23-33, 33-53 y 53-93 keV) por el experimento Hard X-Ray Telescope (HXT) a bordo del satélite Yohkoh, han sido investigadas. Las imágenes sugieren que el tama o de las fuentes de rayos-X duros es del orden de 20 segundos de arco y que existen 3 tipos: fuentes individuales simples (30%), fuentes dobles (41%), con separación mínima típica de 30{40 segundos de arco y fuentes múltiples (29%). Hemos ajustado un único espectro de potencia para las emisiones de rayos-X en el rango de 20{830 keV utilizando datos del experimento Hard X-Ray Spectrometer (HXS). La evolución temporal del espectro de estas explosiones también fue estudiada. El comportamiento típico del índice es "blando-duro-blando".
Antihyperglycemic activity of various fractions of Cassia auriculata linn. in alloxan diabetic rats

Abstract: Present work describes the potent antidiabetic fraction from flowers of Cassia auriculata Linn. Hydromethanolic extract along with its ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions were evaluated for antidiabetic activity in alloxan-induced diabetes in rats. The n-butanol fraction exhibited significant reduction (p< 0.001) in blood glucose levels and was also found effective in restoring the blood lipids and proteins to normal level. The activity was found comparable with standard drug phenformin. The hydromethanolic extract and its fractions were subjected to preliminary qualitative chemical investigations which indicated the presence of phenolic compounds, carbohydrates, tannins, steroids and amino acids.

Abstract: on 30th june 1989 high sensitivity-spectral resolution observations of solar radio bursts were carried out in the frequency range of 18 - 23 ghz. the burst observed at 17:46 ut was different from the 60 bursts observed so far in the sense that it exhibited a frequency fine structure superimposed on the ongoing burst in its rising phase, i.e. an additional enhancement of the flux density of the order of 10 sfu, observed only in the 21 and 22 ghz frequency channels, lasting for about 4 s. interaction of an emerging loop with an adjacent loop accelerated particles in that loop from which the broadband burst was emitted due to the gyrosynchrotron emission. the observed fine structure is interpreted as due to thermal gyro-emission at 6th harmonic of the gyrofrequency originated from a hot kernel with short lifetime located at the top of emerging loop. we derived the hot kernel source parameters, th e temperature as 8 ′107 k, the magnetic field as 1250 g and the density as 5 ′1012 cm-3.

Red cell hemolysis during processing and storage

Abstract: Introduction: Apart from the visual assessment, measurement of plasma hemoglobin in the supernatant from red cell units provides an objective measure of the extent of hemolysis during storage. Study Design and Methods: Packed red cells (N=50), 25 units each in triple (CPD-A1 and SAGM) and quadruple (CPD-A1 and ADSOL) blood bags were evaluated for plasma hemoglobin by the tetramethylbenzidiene (TMB) method on day 1, 7, 14, 21 and 28 of collection. The hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, LDH and potassium levels were also noted. Whole blood units (N=25) were used as controls. Results: Hemolysis increased in all the stored red cell units. Plasma hemoglobin increased significantly in the first week of storage. The hemolysis, LDH and potassium levels were found to be significantly higher in the red cell units harvested from the triple blood bags. However, on day 28 of storage, free hemoglobin in all the red cell units was much below the 0.8% hemolysis. Conclusion: Hemolysis of the red cells increases due to processing and during storage and is maximum during the first week. Adequate process control and proper storage facilities should be ensured to minimize the hemolysis of red cells during processing and storage.
