Türkiye Fiziksel Tip ve Rehabilitasyon Dergisi , 2013, DOI: 10.4274/tftr.57060
Abstract: Objective: The purpose of the study was to determine the influences of hormones and menstrual cycle on the severity of restless legs syndrome (RLS) in reproductive women.Materials and Methods: A total of 381 volunteered women (aged 14-53 years) were interviewed using a validated diagnostic questionnaire to determine the presence of the disease. Volunteers were asked questions regarding demographic characteristics. 54 women who fulfilled the disease criteria were administered the International RLS Severity Scale. The patients were also assessed by using the Short Form-36 and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index in order to evaluate the quality of life. Blood samples were drawn on the days 3, 13 and 23 of the menstrual cycle to determine hormone levels. Results: There was no statistically significant difference among the groups in terms of the 381 women surveyed, 14.2% were positive for the disease. Severity of the disease symptoms were not correlated with hormone levels. We found no association of RLS with educational level, smoking, marital status and number of parity. However, a significant difference was found in alcohol intake and caffeine consumption between patients and controls (p<0.05). Perceived RLS severity was increased significantly in the follicular phase. The severity of the disease symptoms affected sleep quality and quality of life. No correlation was observed between hormone levels and SF-36 scores. Conclusion: RLS is a common disease, affecting women in reproductive ages more often than in post-menopausal ages. Female hormonal changes do not correlate with the severity of RLS symptoms. RLS is perceived more severely in the follicular phase. Estradiol levels do not affect SF-36 scores in reproductive ages as it does in post-menopausal ages. Turk J Phys Med Rehab 2013;59:45-51.

International Journal of Energy and Environment , 2010,
Abstract: In this study, thermoeconomic optimization of the steam power plant with Levelized-cost method was carried out. Aim of thermoeconomy is to minimize exergy cost. With this aim, the first law and the second law of thermodynamics to each component of system were performed. Irreversibility and exergy values were obtained. Economic analysis by using exergy values was carried out. Unit electric cost for each component of system was calculated. Optimum design and operating conditions for minimum exergy cost were obtained.
A New Formulation to Estimate Temperature of Solar Pond

Sel?uk Journal of Applied Mathematics , 2004,
Abstract: In this paper, a new formulation based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was presented for estimating solar pond temperature. Temperature of solar pond which is constructed experimentally was estimated depending on time, pond depth, solar radiation and air temperature. In order to train the network, experimental measurements were used as training and test data. The temperatures in different depths of solar pond have been calculated theoretically with equations derived from ANN model and compared with the experimental results. The ability of ANN is to learn complex non-linear relationships. A new formulation using ANN was presented here.

Abstract: We introduce the strongly (V,λ)-convergent sequences and give the relation between strongly (V,λ)-convergence and strongly (V,λ)-convergence with respect to a modulus.
Micro-earthquake monitoring with sparsely sampled data
Paul Sava
Journal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technologies , 2011, DOI: 10.1007/s13202-011-0005-7
Abstract: Micro-seismicity can be used to monitor the migration of fluids during reservoir production and hydro-fracturing operations in brittle formations or for studies of naturally occurring earthquakes in fault zones. Micro-earthquake locations can be inferred using wave-equation imaging under the exploding reflector model, assuming densely sampled data and known velocity. Seismicity is usually monitored with sparse networks of seismic sensors, for example located in boreholes. The sparsity of the sensor network itself degrades the accuracy of the estimated locations, even when the velocity model is accurately known. This constraint limits the resolution at which fluid pathways can be inferred. Wavefields reconstructed in known velocity using data recorded with sparse arrays can be described as having a random character due to the incomplete interference of wave components. Similarly, wavefields reconstructed in unknown velocity using data recorded with dense arrays can be described as having a random character due to the inconsistent interference of wave components. In both cases, the random fluctuations obstruct focusing that occurs at source locations. This situation can be improved using interferometry in the imaging process. Reverse-time imaging with an interferometric imaging condition attenuates random fluctuations, thus producing crisper images which support the process of robust automatic micro-earthquake location. The similarity of random wavefield fluctuations due to model fluctuations and sparse acquisition is illustrated in this paper with a realistic synthetic example.

AbstractEnvironmental Performance Index (EPI-Environmental Performance Index) is a major study which evaluates environmental health and ecosystem vitality of countries, two years apart. This study, prepared by Yale University and based on 16 performance indicators in 2006, 25 in 2008 and 2010, and finally 22 in 2012, evaluating the environmental performance. These indicators are as an indicator of how much countries achieve the environmental policy goals. According to the year 2012 Environmental Performance Index, Turkey is in the most recent ranking of countries in the world, and many are among the least developed countries for protecting environmental health and ecosystem vitality. Turkey, within the scope of the index of 132 countries assessed in 2012 to take place in 109, only 23 countries of Turkey in environmental performance, i.e., able to pass 17% and 83% of countries assessed only means to remain behind. In this study, environmental performance index, the objectives of index, policies and structural categories, indicators, and the sco

Lakes reservoirs and ponds , 2009,
Abstract: Baia Verde – Slanic Prahova Lakes Complex have been formed by water accumulation resulted out of infiltrated salted water from bell shaped surface salt mines dated XVII century (1685). Such lakes, as per their method of formation, can be also found in other places from the SubCarpathians area (Telega – Prahova, Ocnele Mari – Valcea), Transilvanian Depression (Ocna Sibiului, Turda, Sovata, Ocna Dejului, etc.). Water contact with diapires, in the places where have always existed such mining explorations and exploitation, has determined the formation of salted lakes having balneary and therapeutically qualities and sometimes the development of a heliothermic / mezothermic bed. At Slanic – Prahova besides the three lakes known as Baia Verde 1, 2 and 3, there is also the lake Baia Baciului situated at the border of “Salt Mountain” which represented the first objective for capitalization of the balnear and therapeutically potential of the area.

Tudor Arghezi between sacred and profane
Cristina SAVA
Studii de Stiinta si Cultura , 2013,
Abstract: The study Tudor Arghezi between sacred and profane” proposes an approach of the dialectic of sacred-profane inside the arghezian creation, in the terms of the perpetuation of the sacred sense. The poet is addressing the divine authority and is also assuming the responsability of the imaginary dialogue. The research is based on preliminary studies of literary criticism, out of the controversy of which emerges the image of homo duplex in a monumental ars poetica . The conscious of the limits coexists with the aspirations towards certainty, towards essential communication with a deus absconditus . The desire of transcending intertwines with the dramatic character of the knowledge. The tensions generated by the tribulations of an ece homo lead to an attitude that seems to oscillate between faith and hide .
