Abstract: there is currently a growing interest in the practice of green manure and its effects on agricultural production systems. in order to evaluate different seeding rates and effects of pruning on seed production of c. juncea an experiment was conducted in the unit of research support in uenf in campos - rj. the experiment was arranged in split-plots, with pruning (and without) in the plots and sowing densities (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 per plant) in the subplots in a randomized block design with four replications. the experimental units consisted of six rows spaced 0.5 m apart, and 4 feet long. without pruning, crotalaria plants were 0.634 m higher. the number of branches of pruned crotalaria plants was larger than the non-pruned plants and the density of 10 and 15 plants per meter had lager number of branches. at the density of 30 plants per meter, the plants produced higher amount of dry matter. with pruning, the crotalaria plants showed on average 7.2 small pods, while the non-pruned plants had mean of 5.1 small pods. at the density of 30 plants per meter, there was approximately 25% more seeds per large pod of pruned plants in relation to the seeds of large pods of non-pruned plants. besides, at this density, plants had larger number of seeds per large pod compared with other densities. it is recommended pruning and density of 10 plants per meter due to the lower cost of seeds and seeds with more vigor.

Abstract: MC/9 cells and primary bone marrow-derived mast cells obtained from C57BL/6 and TLR4-/- knock-out mice were sensitized to DNP-HSA (antigen) by incubation with DNP-IgE and were prestimulated with LPS for 18 hr prior to stimulation. Cultures were stimulated with LPS or Pam3Cys-Ser-(Lys)4 3HCl (P3C), a TLR2 agonist, individually or in combination with antigen. The production of IL-6 and TNFα, the phosphorylation of NFκB and p38 MAPK, and the expression of TLR4 and SOCS-1 and -3 were analyzed. We found that production of TNFα and IL-6 in murine mast cells that have been pretreated with LPS and challenged with TLR4 (LPS) or -2 (P3C) agonists was reduced, phenomena described as endotoxin tolerance (LPS) and cross-tolerance (P3C), respectively. The expression of TLR4 was not affected by LPS pretreatment. Our results show that the FcεR1 agonist DNP-HSA (antigen) interacts synergistically with LPS or P3C to markedly enhance production of cytokines (TNFα and IL-6). This synergistic effect with LPS and P3C was also attenuated by LPS pretreatment and was mediated by TLR4. These results may be attributed to the reduction in phosphorylation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), p38, and the transcription factor NFκB, as well as to an increase in the expression of the suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCS)-1 and -3 proteins in LPS-pretreated mast cells. These findings can be explored with respect to the modulation of inflammatory responses associated with infectious and allergic processes in future studies.Currently, treatment of sepsis is ineffective and few therapeutic innovations have been developed to improve it [1,2]. Since 1972, stemming from the quasi-intuitive ideas of Thomas Lewis [3], the concept that our immune response to infection is the sustaining foundation for sepsis has been widely accepted. An increased understanding of sepsis pathophysiology has provided stronger support for this hypothesis [4]. During the second half of the 1990 s, two coinciding fact

Abstract:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth, the nutrition, and the intensity of the green color in corn plants in monoculture and in intercropping with Mucuna aterrima, Crotalaria juncea, and Canavalia ensiformis, cultivated with different handlings. In general, corn plants in monoculture demonstrated greater growth and greater SPAD value in the first evaluation, despite presenting lower tenor of phosphorus in the leaves when related to the corn in intercropping. The weed helps in the growth of the corn plant and increases the SPAD value during flowering. The monoculture NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium) fertilization promoted higher values in corn plant growth, as well as a greater SPAD value, at 30 d.a.e., of the plants. The NPK-fertilized corn plants showed a greater tenor of sulphur and a lower tenor of molybdenum. The corn in intercropping with M. aterrima resulted in smaller plants at 70 d.a.e. It also presented a greater tenor of molybdenum and lower tenor of nickel when compared to intercroppings with C. juncea and with C. ensiformis. The corn plants in a intercropping with Crotalaria juncea presented higher growth at 30 and 70 d.a.e. and greater tenors of molybdenum when compared to the plants in intercropping with C. ensiformis.
