Effect of Taurine on the antimicrobial efficiency of Gentamicin

Abstract: Context: Gentamicin is mainly used in severe infections caused by gram-negatives. However toxicity including nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity is one of the most important complications of its treatment. The production of free radicals seems to be involved in gentamicin toxicity mechanism. Taurine, a major intracellular free β-amino acid, is known to be an endogenous antioxidant. So potentially the co-therapy of taurine and gentamicin would reduce the adverse effects of the antibiotic. Objectives: In this study, we wished to know the effect of taurine on the antibiotic capacity of gentamicin. methods: strains of P. aeruginosa, E. coli, S. aureus and S. epidermidis were used as test organisms. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of gentamicin in the presence and absence of taurine at quantities from 40 to 2 mg/L were determined using macro-dilution method. Results: MICs were determined in the various concentrations of taurine for bacterial indicators. The MIC values of gentamicin for P. aeruginosa, S. aureus and E. coli remained unchanged in the values of 2.5, 5 and 20 μg/ml respectively in the absence and presences of different concentrations of taurine. The bactericidal activity of gentamicin against S. epidermidis was increased by addition of taurine in the concentrations higher than 6 mg/L. Conclusion: According to our study the antibacterial activity of gentamicin against the indicator microorganisms were not interfere with taurine at selected concentrations. Further in vivo studies are needed to establish if a combination of gentamicin and taurine would have the same effect.
A survey on the consumption, knowledge and attitude of pregnant women toward the efects of folic acid on pregnancy outcome in Tabriz

Abstract: ObjectiveWhile the effects of folic acid are well established in prevention of Neural Tube Defects (NTDs), these diseases have a high prevalence in Iran. In order to encourage folic acid supplement use in pregnancy, it is important to promote the awareness of women of childbearing age regarding folic acid importance in preventing NTDs. The aim of the present study was to study the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women on the effect of folic acid on pregnancy outcome and its use during pregnancy.Materials and MethodsA questionnaire was completed by 400 women from postnatal and prenatal wards/clinics using random sampling. The questionnaire included questions regarding demographic information, folic acid consumption in pregnancy and the attitude and knowledge of the participants on folic acid supplementation and the source of information on folic acid supplementation.The questions were aimed at subjects' knowledge of folic acid effects on fetal growth and development and prevention of NTDs and not prevention of anemia. Data was analyzed by SPSS software (ver. 13.5).ResultsAbout 89.9% used folic acid supplements at some point of the pregnancy and 53.7% knew it was beneficial for the fetus. Approximately, 25% and 34.8% of those who used folic acid believed that it was most useful when taken preconception and during the first trimester, respectively. Only 15.4% knew itcould prevent NTDs. The most common information sources for folic acid use were physicians.ConclusionAwareness and use of folic acid were most prevalent among Iranian women, especially among educated ones. The results showed areas in which further work could be helpful to improve awareness regarding the benefits of folic acid.

Abstract: In recent years, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) has become widely used in current internet protocols. It is a text-based protocol much like Hyper Text Transport Protocol (HTTP) and Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP). SIP is a strong enough signaling protocol on the internet for establishing, maintaining, and terminating session. In this paper the areas of security and attacks in SIP are discussed. We consider attacks from diverse related perspectives. The authentication schemes are compared, the representative existing solutions are highlighted, and several remaining research challenges are identified. Finally, the taxonomy of SIP threat will be presented.
A Taxonomy for Congestion Control Algorithms in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract: One of the main criteria in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) that has attracted the researchers' consideration is congestion control. Accordingly, many algorithms have been proposed to alleviate the congestion problem, although it is hard to find an appropriate algorithm for applications and safety messages among them. Safety messages encompass beacons and event-driven messages. Delay and reliability are essential requirements for event-driven messages. In crowded networks where beacon messages are broadcasted at a high number of frequencies by many vehicles, the Control Channel (CCH), which used for beacons sending, will be easily congested. On the other hand, to guarantee the reliability and timely delivery of event-driven messages, having a congestion free control channel is a necessity. Thus, consideration of this study is given to find a solution for the congestion problem in VANETs by taking a comprehensive look at the existent congestion control algorithms. In addition, the taxonomy for congestion control algorithms in VANETs is presented based on three classes, namely, proactive, reactive and hybrid. Finally, we have found the criteria in which fulfill prerequisite of a good congestion control algorithm.
An RFID-Based Road Information in Foggy Environment

Abstract: In this paper, some information are extracted from road by RFID tools. According to the information, a road guide is produced and the driver can use it. This guide can be used by the driver in foggy road and poor vision environment. These data are about “ what we would see in front”, Such as tunnel, bridge, turn left, turn right, 4-way cross and so on. For this, passive tags installed with proper road data, are posted on road, and tag reader is in the car. The result of this work is the creating an information service to supply necessary information to car in foggy and poor visibility road. situation of 100 meters from the front of car is transmitted to the car and information go to the monitoring system. Moreover, a computing method is proposed for accurate distance detection between car and road margin. This mechanism is shown in this paper.

Abstract: In this article, two-dimensional partial differential equations with time representation of nuclear power reactor kinetics are considered for spatial reactor dynamics and thermo hydraulic behavior analysis of a large thermal advanced gas cooled reactor (AGR) type used for nuclear power generation. The equations include the neutron flux equation and delayed neutron precursor concentration, together with taking into account the equations to represent the thermo hydraulic behavior of the fuel, coolant and moderator temperatures. These equations are solved numerically using the finite difference method. For time propagation, an implicit method is applied. The desired initial condition for the reactor to stay at stable critical condition is established by finding the correct value of reactivity. The reactivity disturbance effect in the reactor is studied for different cases and presented for high reactivity values. The model was developed for the analysis of a large AGR with 2000 MWe for future power generation. The results show that the model not only behaves stably but also predicts the results physically for all the various parameters.

Abstract: In this paper, we study the relationship between operator space norm and operator space numerical radius on the matrix space $\mathcal{M}_n(X)$, when $X$ is a numerical radius operator space. Moreover, we establish several inequalities for operator space numerical radius and the maximal numerical radius norm of $2\times 2$ operator matrices and their off-diagonal parts. One of our main results states that if $(X, (O_n))$ is an operator space, then \begin{align*} \frac12\max\big(W_{\max}(x_1+x_2)&, W_{\max}(x_1-x_2) \big)\\ &\le W_{\max}\Big(\begin{bmatrix} 0 & x_1 \\ x_2 & 0 \end{bmatrix}\Big)\\ &\hspace{1.5cm}\le \frac12\left(W_{\max}(x_1+x_2)+ W_{\max}(x_1-x_2) \right) \end{align*} for all $x_1, x_2\in \mathcal{M}_n(X)$.
Recurrent Polynomial Neural Networks for Enhancing Performance of GPS in Electric Systems  [PDF]

Abstract: Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide satellite system that provides navigation, positioning, and timing for both military and civilian applications. GPS based time reference provides inexpensive but highly-accurate timing and synchronization capability and meets requirements in power system fault location, monitoring, and control. In the present era of restructuring and modernization of electric power utilities, the applications of GIS/GPS technology in power industry are growing and covering several technical and man-agement activities. Because of GPS receiver’s error sources are time variant, it is necessary to remove the GPS measurement noise. This paper presents novel recurrent neural networks called the Recurrent Pi-Sigma Neural Network (RPSNN) and Recurrent Sigma-Pi Neural Network (RSPNN). The proposed NNs have been used as predictor in GPS receivers timing errors. The NNs were trained using the dynamic Back Propagation (BP) algorithm. The actual data collection was used to test the performance of the proposed NNs. The ex-perimental results obtained from a Coarse Acquisition (C/A)-code single-frequency GPS receiver strongly support the potential of the method using RPSNN to give high accurate timing. The GPS timing RMS error reduces from 200 to less than 40 nanoseconds.

Abstract:

Mechanisms for interactions between ultrasound waves and materials vary as a function of input power of ultrasound. The objectives of this study were to compare mode of actions for ultrasound waves at different input powers. This study also describes various effects of ultrasound on materials at different input powers with emphasize on food and polymer applications. At low power of ultrasound, the major mechanism is acoustic streaming and at a power above threshold value, the most possible one is acoustic cavitation. Low power of ultrasound is a powerful analytical technique to investigate on physico-chemical properties of both biological and non-biological materials. While at sufficiently high power, it generates shear forces that are able to create different effects. For each pair of medium-acoustic wave, two types of mechanisms, acoustic streaming and cavitation may be occurred simultaneously.

Abstract: Different religions have one belief in common in that man is not self-existent. It means that his life is basically dependent on an independent central power. This concept was suggested by early religions in the form of the belief that nature has powers, but more advanced religions have a belief in a metaphysical being, who is the creator of the world. Besides human desire for perfection is a common subject that connects different religions to each other although there exist various interpretations about perfection and perfect man. The basis of the western new thought is humanism, in which human is a self-centered one and is not dependent on any greater force; however, in the eastern thought, man and the world are under God’s centrality, moving toward a spiritual goal and a superior world. This article aims at the position of the perfect man, as a creature on the earth, in the worlds of Darwinism, Marxism, Nietzcheism, Freudism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Mazdaism, Manichaeis, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It is concluded that among all eastern religions, Islam is the only multi-dimensional one and considers both materialistic and spiritual dimensions of man.
