Latinos y sajones.
Abstract: some journalistic papers produced in the last century's 20s in bogotá are the subject of a discursive analysis in this article. the author states that in the 20th century the production of national identity goes from the learned people to the journalists and that it is evidenced in urban chronicles and reports. the early 20th century's press might have expressed the thesis from which the contemporary world could be understood as a struggle between the latin race and the saxon one where colombia would have had the civilizing role of stopping the imperial american "saxonism", strengthening its latin nature as national identity.
Siglo XVIII: El nacimiento de la biopolítica
Tabula Rasa , 2010,
Abstract: this paper addresses the problem of biopolitics in the 18th century in spain and its colonies in america, having as a reference the change of austria's to bourbon dynasty. it is argued that this change of dynasties involved not only a change in government, but also a change in governmentality. a set of medical, health and demographic steps were applied in order to enhance the quality of life among its population, while at the same time spain was fighting to recover its geopolitical hegemony in the world-system. hence, this paper explores the links between biopolitics and geopolitics.
Michel foucault y la colonialidad del poder
Tabula Rasa , 2007,
Abstract: contrary to most of the statements associated with postcolonial studies and to some versions of the modernity/coloniality perspective, this article argues for the relevance of a hierarchic theory of power, inspired by foucault’s lesser commonly read lessons in the college of france, to understand the articulations along different planes of the modern/colonial world system.

Tabula Rasa , 2010,
Abstract: This article reflects on the concept of "anthropotechnics", developed by the German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk, showing its dual meaning on "improving the world" (Weltverbesserung) and on "improving oneself" (Selbstverbesserung). The author suggests that this twofold idea can be read in relation to the foucauldian concepts of "technologies for the government of populations " (biopolitics) and "technologies of the self" (aesthetics of existence).
The Messiah device: living work and redemption in Hardt and Negri's political philosophy
Castro-Gómez, Santiago
Athenea Digital , 2006,
Abstract: Within the context of an era that appears to be defined by the triumph of gobalized capitalism, an alternative political project doesn’t seem possible. Accordingly, Marxism can only be conjured as a spectre, in Derrida’s sense. The “philosophical conjuration” in postfordist society that Hardt & Negri propose in Empire is discussed, i.e. their notion of a General Intellect, by analogy with Saint Augustine’s messianism in The City of God. The differences with Derrida’s messianism are outlined, and the possibility to conceive of a “messianism without a Messiah” in industrial society is discussed.
This article explores the possibility of creating spaces within the university for a cultural criticism of processes of global transformation within late capitalism, as is manifest in the free reign of finance capital outside of geographical boundaries acting in cyberspace –understood as the confluence of artifacts, practices and power relations of information technologies in relation with market forces–. Specifically, the question is approached of the place of subaltern knowledge and studies in the new world order and the necessity for a new critical agenda for the university of the “Global South”, in the face of threaths coming from a model of corporate university that is seeking to impose itself today.
Beta-glucana from Saccharomyces cerevisiae: constitution, bioactivity and obtaining / Beta-glucana de Saccharomyces cerevisiae: constitui o, bioatividade e obten o

Semina : Ciências Agrárias , 2008,
Abstract: b-glucans are polysaccharides that constitute the structure of the cell wall of yeast, fungi and some cereals, which differs each other by the linkages between glucose units. An important source of these polymers is the Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell wall, which is a yeast widely used in industrial processes of fermentation. The b-glucan is considered to be a modifier of biological response due to its immunomodulator potential. When it is recognized by specific cellular receptors, have the ability to enhance the host’s immune response. Other beneficial effects such as anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic, hypocholesterolemic and blood sugar reduction have also been related to the b-glucan. The aim of this literature review was expand scientific knowledge about the constitution and bioactivity of b-glucan, including its recognition by the immune system, as well as its obtaining from S. cerevisiae cell wall. b-glucanas s o polissacarídeos constituintes estruturais da parede celular de leveduras, fungos e alguns cereais, que se diferenciam pelo tipo de liga o presente entre as unidades de glicose.

Abstract: The insect control is carried out mostly by chemical products, whose cumulative effects cause serious losses to environmental and human health, highlighting rapid selection of resistant insects. Biological control by entomopathogenic bacteria is an efficient alternative, mainly due to high specificity, absence of resistance in the target insects and low environment residual effect. Bacillus thuringiensis is a Gram-positive spore-forming bacterium that produces a parasporal crystal protein toxic for many insect species. Despite the widespread use of B. thuringiensis based products in biological control of insects, there are little studies about its multiplication, sporulation and crystal production, as so many trade secrets information. This revision was aimed at gathering general information about B. thuringiensis, as well as its production in culture media.
