Towards a synergy between project and supply chain management

Abstract: Construction projects are conventionally analyzed considering factors such as cost and completion time. The present paper focuses on the projects particularly dealing with the house or building. The paper aims at an objective of introducing a synergy between project and supply chain management. After a brief relevant literature review, major construction activities have been discussed and the associated synergy between project management and supply chain concepts has been explained. Applications of the supply chain concepts such as forward and reverse logistics along with the customer order decoupling point in the context of construction management are discussed as a result of the proposed development. For this purpose, a categorization of construction product is developed on the basis of land and building characteristics and it is the major contribution of the present paper. This is also expected to be useful for estimating lead time and availability of the product in the context of relevant supply chain, and an associated managerial implication.

Abstract: Renaissance painting from the early 15th to mid 16th centuries originated in the area of present-day Italy. Inspired by the works of ancient Greece and Rome, artist produced painting based on topographic observation and the idealistic body proportion. The most of the painting depicts human figure in perfect shape. Calumny of Apelles was painted by the Italian painter Sandro Botticelli. A dark male figure painted in center with bilateral symmetrical distal wasting of limbs and poor body frame. The unusual portrayal may also suggest use of live model suffering from lead toxicity and lead neuropathy.
BER Performance of Space-Time Coded MMSE DFE for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA)  [PDF]

Abstract: In recent times, there has been growing interests in integration of voice, data and video traffic in wireless communication networks. With these growing interests, WCDMA has immerged as an attractive access technique. The performance of WCDMA system is deteriorated in presence of multipath fading environment. The paper presents space-time coded minimum mean square error (MMSE) Decision Feedback Equalizer (DFE) for wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) in a frequency selective channel. The filter coefficients in MMSE DFE are optimized to suppress noise, intersymbol interference (ISI), and multiple access interference (MAI) with reasonable system complexity. For the above structure, we have presented the estimation of BER for a MMSE DFE using computer simulation experiments. The simulation includes the effects of additive white Gaussian noise, multipath fading and multiple access interference (MAI). Furthermore, the performance is compared with standard linear equalizer (LE) and RAKE receiver. Numerical and simulation results show that the MMSE DFE exhibits significant performance improvement over the standard linear equalizer (LE) and RAKE receiver.
Identification of Critical Factors in Checkpointing Based Multiple Fault Tolerance for Distributed System

Abstract: Performance of a checkpointing based multiple fault tolerance is low. The main reason is overheads associate with checkpointing. A checkpointing algorithm can be improved by improved storing strategy and checkpointing scheduling. Improved storage strategy and checkpointing scheduling will reduce the overheads associated with checkpointing. Performance and efficiency is most desirable feature of recovery based on checkpointing. In this paper important critical issues involved in fast and efficient recovery are discussed based on checkpointing. Impact of each issue on performance of checkpointing based recovery is also discussed. Relationships among issues are also explored. Finally comparisons of important issues are done between coordinated checkpointing and uncoordinated checkpointing.

Abstract: Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing ( OFDM ) is a promising way to provide large data rates at reasonable complexity in wireless fading channels. However , a major disadvantage of OFDM is its high Peak to Average Power Ratio, which significantly decreases the efficiency of the transmitter power amplifier and hence forms a major obstacle in implementing OFDM in communication systems. Several techniques have been proposed to treat this limitation.This paper shows the possibility of using complementary codes for decreasing the PAP ratio.

Abstract: Public health has been of national and international concern as in the process of assuring the health standards of any nation, it involves mobilizing and engaging local, state, national and international resources. Since the health problems and issues vary from country to country, the health policies and reforms addressing these should also be customized. To effectively implement and practice these developments, it is necessary to scientifically derive the lessons learnt and relate them to adequately trained and adroit health workforce. Winslow in his definition of Public Health stated, “Public Health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health and efficiency through organized community efforts for the sanitation of environment, the control of community infections, the education of individuals in principles of hygiene, the organization of medical and nursing services for the early diagnosis and preventive treatment of disease and the development of social machinery which will ensure to every individual in the community a standard of living adequate for maintenance of health, so organizing these benefits as to enable every citizen to realize his birth right of health and longevity(1). To effectively comply with the multidisciplinary dimensions reflected in Winslow’s definition, it is necessary to explore the different domains of public health and provide sufficient capacity building initiatives to work upon the existing situations related to each of these domains. Public health education and competencies at various levels needed to translate evidence into policies, and to design, implement and evaluate programs(2). Peak Power Reduction in OFDM Systems for Multicarrier Transmission

Abstract: The transmit signals in an OFDM system can have high peak values in the time domain since many subcarrier components are added via an IFFT operation. Therefore, OFDM systems are known to have a high PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio), compared with single-carrier systems. In fact, the high PAPR is one of the most detrimental aspects in the OFDM system, as it decreases the SQNR (Signal-to-Quantization Noise Ratio) of ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) and DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) while degrading the efficiency of the power amplifier in the transmitter. This study describes some of the important PAPR reduction techniques for multicarrier transmission including amplitude clipping and filtering, coding and partial transmit.

Abstract: In this paper a new 7T SRAM is proposed. CMOS SRAM Cell is very less power consuming and have very less read and write time. In proposed SRAM an additional write bit line balancing circuitry is added in 6T SRAM for power reduction. A seven Transistor (7T) cell at 45 nm Technology is proposed to accomplish improvement in stability, power dissipation and performance compared with previous designs. Simulation result of proposed design using CADENCE TOOL shows the reduction in total average power consumption.
Identification of node behavior for Mobile Ad-hoc Network

Abstract: In present scenario, in ad-hoc network, the behavior of nodes are not very stable. They do not work properly and satisfactory. They are not cooperative and acting selfishly. They show their selfishness to share their resources like bandwidth to save life of battery, they are not hasitate to block thepackets sent by others for forwarding and transmit their own packets. Due to higher Mobility of the different nodes makes the situation even more complicated. Multiple routing protocols especially for these conditions have been developed during the last few years, to find optimized routes from a source to some destination.But it is still difficult to know the actual shortest path without attackers or bad nodes. Ad-hoc network suffer from the lot of issues i.e. congestion, Throughput, delay, security, network overhead. Packet delivery ratio is the issues of ongoing research. Cause of node failure may be either natural failure of node links or it may be due to act of an attacker or bad node which may degrade performance of network slowly or drastically, which also need to identify or determined. In this paper, we identify the good and bad nodes. A simulation has been performed to achieve better performance of modified AODV. Good result has been obtained in terms of Throughout, Packet Delivery Ratio.
