Prostate Cancer Predicting Factors A Preliminary Report from Tehran

Abstract: Purpose: To determine the probability of having prostate cancer (PCa) using the combination of serum level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and age. Materials and Methods: A total of 160 patients and 190 controls were enrolled in this hospital-based case-control study. Using a logistic regression model and the odds ratio of age and PSA level, the probability of PCa was estimated based on serum level of PSA and age of the participants. Results: The mean age of patients with PCa and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) was 67.75 ± 8.81 and 62.07 ± 8.71 years, respectively (P< .000). Using univariate analysis, we found that increase in life decades of the cases almost doubles the risk of having PCa (odds ratio = 1.95; P = .00), and the probability of developing cancer may increase by 74% in ketchup consumers. After multiple variable regressions, it was revealed that the odds of developing PCa increase by 90% only for every decade, and other variables did not have any significant association with PCa. Conclusion: In clinical practice, PSA level combined with the age at presentation can be used as predictors of PCa probability and the necessity of biopsy.

Abstract: Based on a suitable linear combination of the physical and un-physical electromagnetic potentials, the radiation reaction potentials have been calculated. Through the near zone expansion of the potentials, it has been shown that in either of the relativistic and non-relativistic cases the outgoing (radiated) energy of the electrons orbiting the nucleus is substituted by incoming (electromagnetic radiation reaction) energy. This means that energy is conserved and the classical hydrogen-like atoms are stable.

Abstract: In this paper, a simple method for placing an optimal number of recloser is presented. The algorithm is solved using genetic algorithm as the optimization method. The majority of outage events experienced by customers are due to electrical distribution failures. Increasing network reliability is a necessity in order to reduce interruption events. Distribution network automation can trim down outage events and increase system reliability. Network automation has to be done using optimization approaches. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is a relatively new technique used in power systems optimization problems. Distribution network automation is one of the aspects tackled using GA. However ,the methodologies used to improve the reliability of radial distribution feeders are reviewed. The reliability improvement are demonstrated for typical distribution feeder layouts. determined. On The Effect of Recast in Task-based Grammar Instruction Across Two Age Groups: Adolescents vs. Adults

Abstract: In order to address the issue of age differences in feedback reception, this study investigated the effect of recast in task-based grammar instruction on Iranian adolescent and adult EFL learners’ learning of conditionals and relatives. The data were collected from 114 adolescent (aged 15-18) and adult (aged 30-35) EFL learners. Of the two adolescent classes, one class was assigned as the experimental and the other as the control group and the same procedure was followed for the two adult classes. The two experimental groups were provided with recast. The analysis of the participants' performance on the posttest demonstrated that the experimental groups outperformed the control groups, and adults more than adolescents benefited from recast. As a result, the efficacy of recast in establishing new grammatical knowledge was proved. Further, the age of the learners did affect the degree of the utility of recasts in developing grammar knowledge. Keywords: age, corrective feedback, recast, task, grammar instruction

Abstract: Rotating discs work mostly at high angular velocity. High speed results in large centrifugal forces in discs and induces large stresses and deformations. Minimizing weight of such disks yields various benefits such as low dead weights and lower costs. In order to attain a certain and reliable analysis, disk with variable thickness and density is considered. Semi-analytical solutions for the elastic stress distribution in rotating annular disks with uniform and variable thicknesses and densities are obtained under plane stress assumption by authors in previous works. The optimum disk profile for minimum weight design is achieved by the Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) optimality conditions. Inequality constrain equation is used in optimization to make sure that maximum von Mises stress is always less than yielding strength of the material of the disk.

Abstract: In this paper, we are going to study the surface structure and existing symmetry by simulation of a quasicrystal Al-Pd- Mn. Quasicrystals have unique properties in their own structure. In the surface structure generally we should pay attention to two subjects. Firstly, what kind of atoms have situated on the surface and secondly the form of collecting atoms by each other sides. Usually, there are different ways for answer to these questions. In this study, Low Energy Ion Scattering (LEIS) technique has been applied. We select a representative cell by using gained information from Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) technique, and give the information to the SABRE computer program. This computer program has been run for azimuthally angles 0 - 180 degrees in the intervals of 9 degree and its output has been analyzed for gaining azimuthally scan. The azimuthally scan shows the existing of a symmetry 72 degree on the surface of this quasicrystal.

Despite outstanding improvements in anesthesia techniques and anesthetics, difficult airway is still a dilemma and is accompanied by morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study is to compare the feasibility of endotracheal intubation with the traditional method of general anesthesia by using muscle relaxants, and “sDCS” (Subcutaneous Dissociative Conscious Sedation) which has been recently reported as an efficient method of anesthesia with the capability of maintaining spontaneous ventilation and providing an appropriate situation for larynxgoscopy and endotracheal intubation. Material and Methods: This randomized clinical trial was conducted on 100 patients who were scheduled for elective laparotomy. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: group A and group B. In group A, patients underwent general anesthesia with thiopental sodium and relaxant. In group B, patients underwent “subcutaneous Dissociative Conscious Sedation” and received low dose subcutaneous ketamine and intravenous narcotic with no relaxant. Environmental Impacts of Solid Waste Landfills on Natural Ecosystems of Southern Caspian Sea Coastlines  [PDF]

The problem of solid waste landfills on Caspian Sea coastlines is one of the current concerns of the Iranian environmental authorities. Physical and environmental constraints as well as shortcomings in present municipal solid waste management are the main factors for environmental pollution and natural resources destruction in this geographical region. In order to reduce the above problems, this study has been carried out on the basis of a comparative assessment of the existing condition of landfill sites in natural ecosystems. In this study, 48 cities of the region have been investigated. All of them are located in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces. Total daily waste production in the study area is about 1209 tons that are dumped in open spaces and/or in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Surveying of 53 physical, adaptability and constraint parameters as well as hygiene and environmental parameters in the landfills, based on Monavari-94 Method indicate that the main problem in all of them is a high groundwater table. In 42% of landfills, the groundwater level is between from 0.5 to 2 meters. This phenomenon may cause severe risks due to the infiltration of leachate into potable groundwater. Indeed, the results of the study show that 87.5% of the landfills are located in areas with unacceptable conditions. In spite of geographical and environmental problems and constraints and as a final alternative in this respect, the need for sanitary and technical solid waste management is the main need of the study areas.

Abstract: it is shown that the usual quantum field theory leads to an ultraviolet divergence in the vacuum energies and an infrared divergence in the two-point functions of the massive and massless vector fields. using a new method of quantization it is shown that the vacuum energies converge, and the normal ordering procedure is not necessary. also the propagators are calculated, which are automatically renormalied.
