Teología y vida , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492008000300014
Abstract: this article seeks to gather together and relate the data contained in primary sources that allow the author to describe with precisión the specific circumstances surrounding the founding of the hogar de cristo. the principal sources used for this end are st. alberto hurtado's manuscripts, the contemporary press and other witnesses. the integrative and reasoned presentation of these data creates a coherent and unifying visión which offers details from the context of the founding of the hogar de cristo, upon determining what social, theological, biographical and spiritual factors were involved in the end result of one of the emblematic works of father hurtado.
Fernández E.,Samuel;
Teología y vida , 2001, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492001000100004
Abstract: marcion confesses a deep cosmological and anthropological pessimis, derived from the question about the origin of evil and form a literal understanding of the some biblical verses. such valorisation also has repercussions on a negative valorisation of the creator (confirmed by the imperfection of the world and the sin of man). the real god, is an entire stranger to man and the world. such foreign character, characteristic of the supreme god, prevents him from revealing himself through the created realities. the world is the good god?s adversary, so no created reality may serve as mediation between the human soul and the true god: he advocates a salvation without mediations. the final part of article presents a summary of tertulian?s reaction, who stresses the just valorisation of the created realities: the acceptance of both a certain distance and familiarity between god and the world.
Fernández Eyzaguirre,Samuel;
Teología y vida , 2000, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492000000300004
Abstract: this article attempts a description and balance of the patristic material published in the 40 years of teología y vida. firstly, it describes the content of the patristic articles, and classifies them according to their orientation (historical or systematic) and their authors being origen and augustine the most frequent ones. the article also looks into the instances which have favoured the study of the fathers, such as the academic activity and patristic seminars. then, it places the patristic production of teología y vida within the context of the renovation of the patristic studies in the 20th century, both in the protestant as in the catholic environments. at the same time, it also considers the close relation between such renovation and the vatican council ii. finally, three stages of this patristic orientation are described along these forty years: 1. the patristic proof, 2. the study of the fathers in relation to the modern theology (which runs the risk of forcing the authors), 3. the study of the very same patristic authors (which runs the risk of losing theological relevance). the conclusion presents the challenge of developing a study of the fathers, without leaving aside the critical accuracy, nor the theological relevance.
Abstract: the first recorded debate between christians and pagans is found in the veridical discourse by celso, a pagan philosopher from the ii century. this work, kept in origens' replica, holdssome fragments of the arguments used by the ii century christians to defend their doctrine against celso's objections. following celsu's fragments _and disregarding the insults against the christians_ the author systematises the rational objections against the credibility of christianity. these are the obscurity of the origin of christianity; the contradictions of the scriptures; the poor quality of the history of jesus; the impotence of the christian god; the lack of credibility of its witnesses, and above all its claim to be a universal historical revelation. this last point seems to be celso's sharpest attack: according to the philosopher, the absolute can not reveal itself into history
'Ya no vivo yo, es Cristo que vive en mí' (Gál 2, 20): 'Ser Cristo' como clave de la vida del padre Alberto Hurtado
Fernández E.,Samuel;
Teología y vida , 2005, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492005000200003
Abstract: in the writings of alberto hurtado, the most frequently-cited biblical verse is galatians 2: 20, "i live now not with my own life but with the life of christ who lives in me?" in many writings, as well, father hurtado emphasizes the centrality of this pauline ideal in christian spirituality: "how simple our spirituality becomes! to be christ." these observations indicate that gal 2: 20 is the key to the spirituality of the jesuit saint. the present article offers a systematic presentation of the content of gal 2: 20 in the writings of father hurtado, in order to find a key that permits one to understand the spirituality, and in a wider sense, the life of the jesuit saint. identification with christ, proposed by gal 2: 20, constitutes this key that conjugates the pauline ideal of "being christ" with the recognition of christ in the other, especially the poor, proposed by the theology of the mystical body
Abstract: this article is a study of the reception, on the part of urs von balthasar, of the origenian understanding of the relationship between truth and image. the first part is dedicated to an exposition of how origen understands the close linking between image and truth, and insists that only by means of the image (the shadow) can one access the truth. then a critical evaluation is made of how balthasar understood this link, emphasizing the relevance of a particular text that draws the vision of both authors closer together.
Abstract: social concern is a characteristic theme throughout the entire life of st. alberto hurtado. howeber, a chronological reading of his writings reveáis a change in his mode of understanding the mission of the church in social terrain. this change is verified as moving from a moral concern principally centered on the individual, and leading towards a more specifically social morality. in the face of this contrast between structural reform and individual reform, alberto hurtado, in his mature years, declares the insufficiency of either reform and, thereby, affirms the need for both, giving priority to the reform of the human person, but warning that this priority is not chronological. finally, the development of the article demonstrates the need for study of the social thought of padre hurtado, within the context of his faith convictions.
Itinerario hacia Dios.: Elementos de escatología origeniana
Fernández E,Samuel;
Teología y vida , 2000, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492000000100004
Abstract: origen?s work offers an unended theology, under research, which attempts to be understandable to his contempraries. origens criticises the millienarits, who interpret the biblical promeses literally, that is to say, materially. he considers that for them christ is not enough, so they expect material goods for the final beatitude. origens, on the contrary, centres all the content of the biblical promises on christ, as all the good are comprised in him. origens theology on spiritual progress, presents a slow and gradual ascension of the rational being, not only in this life, but also after death until he comes to the definite beatitude, which in the end, will be reached by everybody and in a stable way. all this process is verified with great attention to safeguard the free will of the rational nature, even after his death.
