The objective was to describe the characteristics of the clientele with hypertensive crisis. The research, which was quantitative, descriptive and documentary, was conducted at a municipal hospital in Fortaleza, Ceará Estate in 2006. In the analysis of 790 patient files, we found that 48.2% of patients presenting hypertensive crisis were in the age group between 40 and 59 years old. Most of the individuals were married (57.5%). The main symptoms were headache (35.7%) and chest pain (12.3%), and in 36.8% of files there was no record of signs and symptoms. The most prescribed medications were captopril (90.6%) and furosemide (53%). We conclude that hypertensive crisis affects many adults, most married and who usually go to the emergency room for clinical evaluation of a sign/symptom. We emphasize the need to alert health professionals about the importance of records for knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of that clientele, to control and prevent hypertensive crisis.

Abstract: the authors built and checked for evidence of the factorial validity and reliability of a scale for measuring attitudes towards tattoos. the attitudes towards tattoos scale was tested in two studies. in study 1, participants comprised 273 undergraduate students, equally distributed with respect to gender, with an average age of 25. they answered the attitudes towards tattoos scale and demographic questions. it was found that the items showed adequate discriminative power, and the expected unifactorial structure was identified, with cronbach's alpha (α) of 0.96. 245 undergraduate students participated in study 2, most of them male (55%), with an average age of 21. they answered the attitudes towards tattoos scale and demographic questions. based on confirmatory factor analysis, the unifactorial structure found in the previous study was corroborated, and an α of 0.93 was observed. these findings suggest the attitudes towards tattoos scale presents evidence of factorial validity and reliability, and may be used among undergraduate students to measure attitudes towards tattoos.

Abstract: we are concerned in this paper with learning classification procedures from known cases. more precisely, we provide a diagnostic model that discriminate between cerebellum-pontine angle (cpa) tumors and otorhinolaryngological (ent) disorders. usually, in order to distinguish between cpa tumors and ent disorders one must perform clinical-neurological examination together with expensive radiological imagery (ct and mri). the proposed model was obtained through artificial intelligence methods and presented a good accuracy level (88.4%) when tested against new cases, considering only clinical examination without radiological imagery results.

Abstract: abstract the insertion of women in the market and their access to higher education has contributed for a change in the role traditionally attributed to them, influencing their professional choice. however, differently from men, professional issues still occupy a secondary position in women's lives. therefore, women choose formal job instead of entrepreneurship. in this context, the purpose of this essay is to analyze women entrepreneurship as a professional choice at a business management course and to relate it to the reasons why they choice for this course and to study the fact that the students consider important to their professional activity. the essay has an exploratory character and the data were statistically treated through factorial analyses, anova and logistic regression.

Abstract: this study had three main aims: (a) to know to what extend the human values are correlated with desirable attributes of an ideal partner; (b) to identify what attributes could be considered most important for an ideal partner; and (c) to assess if the importance assigned to such desirable attributes vary according to participants' gender. four hundred twenty one people of general population from jo?o pessoa-pb took part in the study with mean age of 25.9 years old. most of them were female (56.8%), single (70.5%), and with undergraduate degree (65.4%). they answered the attributes of ideal partner scale, the basic value survey and demographic questions. results indicated that a consistent set of value subfunctions were correlated with the desirable attributes of an ideal partner (e.g. the subfunctions excitement and normative were correlated with athletic and traditional dimensions, respectively). on the other hand, it was observed the role of participants' gender in differentiating the importance assigned to desirable attributes; the men appreciated more the athletic attribute, and the women did with respect to the sociable attribute. these findings were discussed based on previous research about the importance that men and women give to desirable attributes of ideal partners.
A realization of the q-deformed harmonic oscillator: rogers-Szeg? and Stieltjes-Wigert polynomials
Galetti, Diógenes;
Brazilian Journal of Physics , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-97332003000100015
Abstract: we discuss some results from q-series that can account for the foundations for the introduction of orthogonal polynomials on the circle and on the line, namely the rogers-szeg? and stieltjes-wigert polynomials. these polynomials are explicitly written and their orthogonality is verified. explicit realizations of the raising and lowering operators for these polynomials are introduced in analogy to those of the hermite polynomials that are shown to obey the q-commutation relations associated with the q-deformed harmonic oscillator.

URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs0202147 Nowadays we have a wide variety of computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software, CAQDAS, to choose from, and almost every qualitative researcher uses one or two of these programs to analyse his/her data. This demand for CAQDAS has brought not only more sophistication in the newest programs and updates but also the discussion about its methodological implications and the need for more training courses and workshops. A lot has been written about the relation between CAQDAS and qualitative methodology. Nevertheless, the ways the training courses and workshops have been developed and carried out have not been outlined. Who are these courses planned for? Is there any prerequisite that the attendants must fulfil? What must the main goal of these training courses be? This article discusses some facts I have found in my experience as a social researcher and CAQDAS user and trainer in a co
