Abstract: this essay examines how brazilian immigrants in the metropolitan region of boston, usa, are becoming increasingly organized. based on an october 2005 survey, it lists the various organizations created by brazilian immigrants from 1995 to 2005 in framingham, boston, somerville, and cambridge. the conclusion is that brazilians have advanced more in terms of political organization (because of the cultural baggage some leaders brought from brazil) than in the service industry.

Abstract: knowledge production is a key element of the dynamics of contemporary societies that until now have been based on uneven levels of scientific and professional knowledge. the aim of this work is to understand, from a sociological point of view, the various aspects of the relationship between creativity, communication and knowledge production, starting from the following questions: what is the role of communication in the elaboration of discoveries or intellectual advances? what is the role of individuals and networks in these advances? and finally, what are the characteristics, especially the communicational ones, of the more creative institutions? the text is based on the works of philippe breton (communication and the status of knowledge), randal collins (network creativity), rogers hollingsworth (cognitive complexity, institutional diversity, quality of the research environment in terms of scientific exchange and discussion). these questions are not restricted to a strictly academic debate. they are also directly related to the practices of research environments, professors-researchers and students of master’s and doctor’s degree.

Abstract: this paper discusses the progress of the brazilian migrants' organization in the metropolitan area of boston, in the united states. based on a research done in october of 2005, it presents several organizations created by the brazilian migrants between 1995 and 2005, in the cities of framingham, boston, somerville and cambridge. it concludes that the brazilians improved their political organization, as a consequence of the cultural background of some leaders, than in the service sector.

Abstract: the present article analyzes the relationship between the national liberation action party and the cuban revolution in the 1960's. it is based on the assumption that the cuban revolution represented a landmark in the history of socialism in latin america. one of the revolution's outstanding features was its influence on the organizations that took part in armed combat against the brazilian dictatorship which was established in 1964. it is with this perspective in mind that we intend to discuss the influence the cuban revolution had on the aln, especially with regards to its project for establishing armed revolutionary struggle in brazil.

Abstract: during the 50's, it prevails in lacan's work a structuralist interpretation of psychoanalysis which inverts the approaching of the unconscious, assigning effectiveness to something that was formerly disqualified as "inert and unthinkable". in this context, it gains relief a re-reading of the oedipus complex whose terms are clearly inspired in lévi-strauss. the purpose of this paper is to shed some light upon the function fulfilled by the signifiers "name-of-the-father" and "phallus" as "zero symbols" of the structure of desire. the way such kind of symbols were described by the anthropologist reveals why this function was requested by the psychoanalyst.

Abstract: thoracentesis is the method of choice for obtaining samples of pleural fluid. although it is considered a minimum invasive procedure, it is crucial to follow a standardized technique with the purpose of optimizing the chance of diagnosis and minimizing risks. the pleura biopsy may enlarge and complement the chance of diagnosis of the pleural diseases and is indicated in selected cases.

Abstract: it is described the frame for applying palliative care to the different problems encountered by patients and their families at the end of life. sedation is a therapeutic manoeuvre frequently used in palliative medicine, that could eventually infringe some ethical principles. from our standpoint, beneficence and autonomy are probably the most affected principles when sedation is considered. some measures to prevent such violations to occur are discussed, and suggestions intended to guide in decisionmaking are proposed

Abstract: the article analyses pc do b's history from the new republic to its current participation in the federal government as a member of the coalition that supported luiz inácio lula da silva. within this course, we highlight the party's participation in elections, which are here considered key-moments to understand the changes in the party's proposals, as well as its insertion into brazilian politics.
