Cia, Fabiana;DAffonseca, Sabrina Mazo;Barham, Elizabeth Joan;
Paidéia (Ribeir?o Preto) , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-863X2004000300004
Abstract: the aim of this paper was to study the impact of the quality of the father-child relationship on children's academic performance. a total of 58 fathers and their children (in the fifth and sixth grades) participated in this study. the fathers completed a questionnaire, "quality of family interaction - fathers' perspective" and the children completed a questionnaire "father-child interaction". to investigate how the fathers' involvement affected their children's academic performance, the children were evaluated using the school performance test. the results indicate that, the higher the frequency of father-child communication and the greater the fathers' involvement in the children's school, cultural and leisure activities, the higher the children's academic performance. these results indicate the importance of fathers' involvement, to maximize children's academic performance, and the necessity of educating men with respect to the ways in which they can improve their parental performance.
Habilidades maternas de mulheres vítimas de violência doméstica: uma revis?o da literatura
D'Affonseca, Sabrina Mazo;Williams, Lúcia Cavalcanti de Albuquerque;
Psicologia: Ciência e Profiss?o , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-98932011000200004
Abstract: this study reviewed the national and the international literature of domestic violence regarding maternal skills from 2007 to 2010.the following data base were used: bireme, web of science, lilacs and medline. out of the 85 abstracts, 28 were related to the topic of this paper (all international) and they were divided into four categories: (1) prevalence, (2) intervention, (3) the relationship between domestic violence and maternal skills and (4) the impact of marital violence on children. analysis of the studies showed that an expressive number of children witnessed violent conflicts between their parents, and that they were directly or indirectly affected by these conflicts. in studies which sought to evaluate the relationship between domestic violence and maternal skills the results showed the negative impact of exposure to marital violence and the importance of a positive mother-child relationship for the reduction of behavior problems in children, an important variable when considering the intervention with this population. it is noteworthy that all data were collected by self-report measures, therefore it is suggested that future research uses other types of data collection as different sources of information or systematic observational studies.

Gerais : Revista Interinstitucional de Psicologia , 2011,
Abstract: This study aimed at broadening the knowledge about the long term effects of school victimization by means of apilot study investigating the most negative events experienced by university students during the school yearspreceding University. A sample of 81 students (M= 21 years of age, 76% female) answered the Student Alienationand Trauma Scale – Revised. The analysis of the data demonstrated that, in most cases, the person involved in theworst school experience was another student (52%), the experiences occurred between the age of 11 and 14 yearsold (45%) and involved a situation of verbal violence (45.3%). After the experience, 89% of the participants feltnervousness, anger, sadness, loneliness, and remembrance of the occurred event, and 38% of the sample presenteda picture suggesting Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome. The results must be interpreted with caution, for it is an initialstudy. Alterations in the instrument and new application strategies are suggested.
Non-equilibrium Effects in the Thermal Switching of Underdamped Josephson Junctions

Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.82.094505
Abstract: We study the thermal escape problem in the low damping limit. We find that finiteness of the barrier is crucial for explaining the thermal activation results. In this regime low barrier non-equilibrium corrections to the usual theories become necessary. We propose a simple theoretical extension accounting for these non-equilibrium processes which agrees numerical results. We apply our theory to the understanding of switching current curves in underdamped Josephson junctions.
Superstability and Finite Time Extinction For C_0-Semigroups
D. Creutz,M. Mazo Jr.,C. Preda
Mathematics , 2009,
Abstract: A new approach to superstability and finite time extinction of strongly continuous semigroups is presented, unifying known results and providing new criteria for these conditions to hold analogous to the well-known Pazy condition for stability. That finite time extinction implies superstability which is in turn equivalent to several (both known and new) conditions follow from this new approach in a consistent fashion. Examples showing that the converse statements fail are constructed, in particular, an answer to a question of Balakrishnan on superstable systems not exhibiting finite time extinction.
Vers?o brasileira da Escala de Estresse Percebido: tradu??o e valida??o para idosos

Revista de Saúde Pública , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-89102007000400015
Abstract: objective: to translate the perceived stress scale into brazilian portuguese, and to assess its validity for measuring perceived stress of brazilian elderly. methods: the scale was translated and tested in its full version including 14 questions and in a shortened version including ten questions. the whole translation process consisted of translation, back-translation and committee review. the translated version was applied, by means of interview, to 76 elders aged on average 70.04 years (sd=6.34; range: 60-84). the internal consistency was verified by means of the cronbach's alpha coefficient and the construct validity was analyzed by means of factorial exploratory analysis with varimax rotation. full and shortened score means were analyzed comparing the perceived stress in terms of self-assessment of health, perceived socioeconomic condition, marital status, and living conditions, among others. results: as for reliability, the full version has showed similar internal consistency (r=0.82) compared to the shortened one (r=0.83). the factorial analysis found two factors for the full and one factor for the shortened scale. question 12 showed the lowest factorial loads. when analyzing pss likelihood of differentiating the perceived stress in terms of the study variables, it was found the full scale had greater differences in perceived stress than the shortened scale. conclusions: the perceived stress scale proved to be a clear and reliable tool to measure the perceived stress of brazilian elderly, showing suitable psychometric performance.
A Generalization of the Hopf's Lemma for the 1-D Moving-Boundary Problem for the Fractional Diffusion Equation and its Application to a Fractional Free-Boundary Problem
Sabrina D. Roscani
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: This paper deals with a theoretical mathematical analysis of a one-dimensional-moving-boundary problem for the time-fractional diffusion equation, where the time-fractional derivative of order $\al$ $\in (0,1)$ is taken in the Caputo's sense. A generalization of the Hopf's lemma is proved, and then this result is used to prove a monotonicity property for the free-boundary when a fractional free-boundary Stefan problem is considered.
Human Resources Information System (HRIS): A Theoretical Perspective  [PDF]

Journal of Human Resource and Sustainability Studies (JHRSS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jhrss.2014.22004
Abstract: HRIS is one of the major modern HR tools. In developed countries, it became popular since the be-ginning of this century. In Bangladesh, corporate organizations have started to implement HRIS in last 5 years. But still its implementation is limited within the big corporate houses. Small corporate houses and public organizations have failed to realize the benefits of HRIS and taken hardly any initiative to implement the system. The major barrier to success of HRIS is the lack of management commitment. The major limitation is the high cost. But the benefits of the HRIS are more than the limitations. Once it is implemented in any organization, employees and management have accepted and realized the benefits. But to get it implemented is a challenge. This study is an attempt to provide a theoretical analysis of the HRIS implementation with analysis of benefits, limitations and barriers. A case study was prepared to provide a better understanding of the topic in a real life context.
Gibson’s ecological approach – a model for the benefits of a theory driven psychology
Sabrina Golonka,Andrew D Wilson
Avant : Journal of Philosophical-Interdisciplinary Vanguard , 2012,
Abstract: Unlike most other sciences, psychology has no true core theory to guide a coherent research programme. It does have James J Gibson’s ecological approach to visual perception, however, which we suggest should serve as an example of the benefits a good theory brings to psychological research. Here we focus on an example of how the ecological approach has served as a guide to discovery, shaping and constraining a recent hypothesis about how humans perform coordinated rhythmic movements (Bingham 2004a, b). Early experiments on this task were framed in a dynamic pattern approach. This phenomenological, behavioural framework (e.g. Jeka & Kelso 1989) classifies the behaviour of complex action systems in terms of the key order parameters, and describes the dynamical stability of the system as it responds to perturbations. Dynamical systems, however, while a valuable toolkit, is not a theory of behaviour, and this style of research is unable to successfully predict data it is not explicitly designed to fit. More recent work by Bingham & colleagues has used dynamical systems to formalise hypotheses derived from Gibson’s ecological approach to perception and action, with a particular emphasis on perceptual information. The resulting model (Bingham 2001, 2004a, b; Snapp-Childs et al. 2011) has had great success with both the phenomena it was designed to explain as well as a wide range of empirical results from a version of the task it is not specifically designed to explain (specifically, learning a novel coordination). This model and the research programme that produced it stand as an example of the value of theory driven research, and we use it to illustrate the contemporary importance the ecological approach has for psychology.
Formulation des besoins informationnels dans une activité complexe et dynamique: l’audit et le conseil en Système d’Information et Nouvelles Technologies
Boulesnane Sabrina,Bouzidi La?d
Communications of the IBIMA , 2009,
